January 25 • Future Yard
Charismatic former frontman of The Fun Lovin' Criminals, Huey Morgan has got so many ticks on his CV – DJ, broadcaster, producer, author and performer with his new band. Kicking off 2025 in NYC style, he’ll be on the decks in Future Yard Birkenhead with a hands-in-the-air collision of disco, hip hop and funk at his NYC Block Party.
January 29-February 1 • Liverpool Empire
He’s been busy keeping the celeb teams in check on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Taskmaster, but mostly comedian Greg Davies is one of the best stand-ups in the business. The 6ft 8in funnyman is currently touring the UK with his Full Fat Legend tour, stopping off in Liverpool for four nights for his biggest ever show.
January 28-29 • M&S Arena
It’s still pulling in huge Saturday night TV audiences and creating some unexpected stars on the dancefloor. Now all the footwork, routines and judges’ comments are live when Strictly comes to the M&S Arena over two nights. Motsi, Craig, Shirley and Anton will all be back in the hot seats giving their verdicts on a glittering contest.
January 31-February 1 • Philharmonic Hall
Scouser Chris McCausland is the worst kept comedy secret in Liverpool because he’s been huge here for a long time, but with Strictly success throwing him into a different spotlight, he’s gained a much bigger audience. He’ll be bringing a brand-new show Yonks! to the Phil, so-called because that’s how long he’s been an overnight success!
February 4-8 • Playhouse Theatre
Direct from a sell-out run at the RSC and West End, the unforgettable The Merchant of Venice 1936 transports Shakespeare’s classic play to the 1930s, casting TraceyAnn Oberman as Sherlock, a single mother and hardworking businesswoman struggling to protect her daughter’s future at a time when tensions are rising in London’s East End.
February 25-March 1 • Liverpool Empire
Matthew Bourne’s ballet productions always give a unique take on familiar stories, from Edward Scissorhands to Sleeping Beauty, but it’s his treatment of Swan Lake that really set new boundaries. Replacing the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, he’s created one of the most successful dance productions of all-time.
From concerts to comedy tours, Liverpool is home to a bursting selection of events over the next three months.
February 14 • Liverpool Philharmonic
If you’re a fan of all things 90s now’s a chance to hear the biggest tunes of the decade as you’ve never heard them before – performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with guest vocalists. The hitpacked show features 90s classics including Let Me Entertain You, I Will Always Love You, Spice Up Your Life and Vogue.
February 28-March 22 • Shakespeare North Playhouse
You wait ages for one modern Shakespeare adaptation to come along and then two come at once … riotous comedy Love’s Labour’s Lost shifts to the 90s and splits girls and boys between a stag do in Ibiza and a hen party in Menorca that’s about to get relocated. With anthems of the era, this is girl power done the Bard way.
March 1-29 • Everyman Theatre
Willy Russell is like playwriting royalty, especially on home ground, and his story of middle-aged housewife Shirley Valentine finding romance – and herself – on a trip to Greece is timeless. The onewoman show, starring Liverpool actor Helen Cater, has a month-long run at the Everyman as part of the theatre’s 60th birthday celebrations.
March 15 • The Dome, Grand Central Hall
Brass bands really don’t come any cooler than the Hot 8 Brass Band, the New Orleans-based Grammy-award winning brass ensemble that’s been entertaining fans for almost 30 years. Their style, which blends hip-hop, jazz and funk styles with traditional New Orleans brass sounds, has brought them success around the world.
March 12 • 02 Academy
More than a little bit reminiscent of Marvin Gaye, which could never be a bad thing, Jalen Ngonda has the smoothest of vocals harking back to a golden era of soul. Although he hails originally from Maryland in the US, the singer/songwriter tipped for very big things spent a year here at LIPA so he’s officially an adopted Scouser!
March 22 • St George’s Hall
He’s known to millions as the voice of Love Island but for anyone who’s only ever heard not seen him, Iain Stirling is a brilliantly funny BAFTA-winning comedian too. He’s back out on the road this spring with his biggest UK tour to date and a brand-new 75-minute show called Relevant in the stunning surroundings of St George’s Hall.
Achieving Zero-Waste-to-Landfill status, Titanic Hotel and B&M Waste Services Highlight Potential for Sustainable Innovation in the Hospitality Industry.
In a bold step towards sustainable hospitality, with the help of B&M Waste Services, Titanic Hotel Liverpool has reached a significant environmental milestone: zero-waste-to-landfill. Thanks to this partnership, the hotel has successfully implemented a waste management strategy that redirects all waste into recycling or renewable energy production, setting a new standard in eco conscious hotel operations.
The most recent environmental report, covering November 2024, revealed that THL diverted 42,375kg of waste from landfill with impressive results. 58% of this waste was recycled, 31% converted into energy at a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facility, and 11% was processed through Anaerobic Digestion (AD). Combined, these efforts produced nearly 8,898 kWh of renewable energy!
For THL, our partnership with B&M Waste Services isn’t just about effective waste disposal – it’s about making an environmental impact. Each month, through AD and RDF processes, the hotel’s waste generates energy equivalent to power a British home for over a year.
a
Titanic Hotel Liverpool’s zero-waste-to-landfill success highlights what exactly is possible when it comes to sustainable hospitality. By not only reducing waste but also transforming it into renewable energy, we are demonstrating that sustainability and luxury can go hand in hand, creating a positive environmental impact and offering guests a greener stay.
As industries evolve to prioritise eco-friendly practices, Titanic Hotel Liverpool’s achievements are helping to emphasise the potential that large businesses like hotels possess to make impactful changes by reviewing their practices.
NOVEMBER KEY
6,731 kWh
GENERATED VIA
This could power 139 TV’s for a year.
This could complete 8,089 Washing Machine Cycles
This could also power an electric car for 37,400 miles.
Could you walk us through the different waste treatment processes utilised for Titanic Hotel?
Once collected, glass sent to local processing sites where it initially goes through a sorting process where labels and metal lids are removed. It is then optically sorted into different colours. 100% of glass recovered is recycled as it is a material that can be recycled endlessly without degrading in quality.
Food waste is sent to an Anaerobic Digestion plant. It is then processed by withdrawing air and adding microbes to speed up the decomposition process. A by product of this process is that heat is generated and this is used to produce electricity for the National Grid. The end result of the AD process is a high quality slurry that is used as a fertiliser in agriculture.
Cardboard is baled on site. Once collected it is sent to mills to be recycled where it is shredded and pulped to break down the fibres. The pulp is then filtered to remove contaminants such as tape, staples and other unsuitable items. It is then mixed with new material to ensure rigidity. After this it is dried and finished into new sheets of material.
After collecting general waste it goes through an initial sorting process to extract any obvious recyclable materials. From there it is shredded and baled for transportation to a ‘Refuse Derived Fuel’ plant where it is incinerated. A by product of this process is that heat is generated and this is used to produce electricity for the National Grid. The ‘ash’ produced is used in aggregate.
“As we continue to expand and diversify, our core philosophies will always remain the same: To balance customer service with environmentally sustainable practices”
What are some unique challenges in managing waste for a high-capacity hospitality client like Titanic Hotel?
There are a number of challenges in providing a waste management service to busy hotels such the Titanic. The waste output has many peaks and troughs depending on the occupancy levels of the hotel and the functions that are taking place. Providing a service that meets these demands took some thought and much collaboration with hotel management.
The layout of this historic site is such that the area that can be dedicated to waste stored is very limited and that area is removed from where much of the waste is being produced. The cobbles can also present their own challenges in moving containers around the area. In addition, we also need to be mindful of noise possible disturbance to guests.
The measures we have put in place to combat these challenges include compacting the general waste at a 3:1 ratio, reducing the number of collections needed from site. The compactor is a fully sealed unit to isolate the waste from the immediate environment and eliminate odours. It also has special nylon runners fitted in order to protect the cobbles, to ease movement across them, and to reduce noise. The cardboard baler also greatly reduces the number of collections being made from site and has the added benefit of ensuring a rebate to the hotel for the cardboard being produced.
To solve the logistical problems on site we have supplied an electric truck that can quietly and efficiently move waste from the main output areas to the waste compound.
Are there any future innovations in waste-to-energy that you feel could help the hospitality industry reduce its environmental footprint even further?
Going forward, we are in discussions with hotel management to facilitate a system to pre-separate Dry Mixed Recycles from the general waste stream. The aim is further improve recycling performance and help the hotel meet the needs of upcoming legislation.
Could you tell us more about B&M Waste Services’ future goals for sustainable waste management within the hospitality sector?
B&M is part of the Beauparc Group, which at its heart is a circular economy business; extracting resource value from materials discarded by our customers. It has grown rapidly to become one of the largest waste management companies across Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands, handling approximately 4.3 million tonnes annually.
As we continue to expand and diversify, our core philosophies will always remain the same: To balance customer service with environmentally sustainable practices.
Our strategy is based upon our corporate requirement of meeting Net Zero by 2040 across the Group, whilst also bringing our people and our customers along with us. Reducing emissions depends on us decarbonising our operations and offering a low-emission, circular alternative to managing our customers’ waste, diverting it away from landfill towards more sustainable recycling and recovery options.
Our employees play a central role in enabling our transformation and we seek to empower them with continuous learning and development opportunities, as well as engaging with our key external stakeholders on sustainability topics that matter to them most.
The start of a new year is traditionally the best time for a lifestyle reset – a chance to take a look at your health and how to boost your wellness.
It doesn’t have to be about making huge changes that are difficult to stick to, just small tweaks in the right places can add up to a big difference.
At Titanic Hotel, we always aim to give our guests an experience which leaves them feeling relaxed and restored, whether that’s through our menus, comfy beds, spa treatments or a workout in our gym. Even the beautiful location of the hotel itself is enough to lift anyone’s mood!
Here are our top tips to get the best out of your stay at Titanic and to hopefully make 2025 a year of wellness…
There’s no single miracle food to make you feel instantly invigorated, but that’s OK because the best way to eat healthily is to have a wide variety of different foods in your daily diet. The key is to get the right balance of fruit, veg, wholegrains, beans and pulses, along with protein foods like fish, dairy and lean meat. Avocados are packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre, kiwi fruit is a known heart helper and blackcurrants are a superfood outperforming their berry rivals. A sprinkle of chia seeds on salads or in a stir fry will give you an instant hit of minerals and snack on walnuts because they’re rich in ‘good fats’. If you’re a fan of fish then salmon has plenty of omega-3 fatty acids which help skin, joints and hormone balance as well as happinessenhancing vitamin D.
Titanic’s wellness pick: Pan-fried salmon with shellfish miso broth, braised pak choi and egg noodles on our Maya Blue Wellness menu.
Few things impact on your wellbeing quite like sleep, especially the lack of it, and one of the simplest ways of improving your sleep is by getting into a pre-bed routine. Try having a set time to start winding down, and stick to the same going to bed and getting up times if you can, even at weekends. Tempting as it is to be scrolling on socials before bed, to put your sleep first you should avoid screens including phones and laptops and the blue light they give off for at least an hour before bed. Try reading, listening to calming music, ambient sounds or a podcast instead. Creating the right sleep environment is useful too, so keep things quiet – put your phone on silence and maybe get some earplugs – and make sure the bedroom’s cool rather than stuffy.
Titanic’s wellness pick: Our beds are made up with Egyptian cotton linens and natural fibre pillows that shape to your head to help you drift off to a restful sleep.
Exercise isn’t only about keeping fit, it’s also good for your mental health and wellbeing. Health experts recommend doing between 75 and 150 minutes of exercise per week to include everything from moderate activity such as walking or bike riding to something more strenuous like running, swimming or a gym workout. Exercising regularly has been shown to increase self-esteem and reduce stress and anxiety, and even a 10-minute brisk walk can lift mental alertness, energy and positive mood. If you make exercise part of your daily lifestyle and set achievable goals then fitting it in will be easier, even when you’re away from home.
Titanic’s wellness pick: Don’t skip your usual gym session because our Maya Blue Wellness Fitness Centre has a Techno Gym kitted out with state-ofthe-art equipment.
Calm and a clear head might be nearer and more accessible than you think because nature could be the answer to improved mental health … and if you thought just being near the waterfront made you feel better then you’re not wrong, scientists agree! Blue space views have been shown to improve health, body and mind. Looking out across tranquil water has a psychologically therapeutic effect that improves your state of mind and helps reduce stress, and because it’s all around everyone can enjoy it. Put simply, being by the water really is a happy place.
Titanic’s wellness pick: Stanley’s Bar & Grill and the Rum Bar both overlook the waterfront with gorgeous views of Stanley Dock, especially from out on the Colonnades.
Life can be so hectic it seems impossible to step back and just unwind, that’s why the best way to ease stress can be as simple as taking some ‘me time’. Just an hour or two of indulgence can leave you feeling totally relaxed and re-energised.
Titanic’s wellness pick:
Our award-winning Maya Blue Wellness is the perfect place to escape for pampering with a treatment or in our thermal suite.
Maya Blue manager Sophie reveals the best treatments to achieve your wellness goal:
“At Maya Blue we use the ESPA range which has natural ingredients that target everything from de-stressing to muscle strain. After a consultation with our therapists to find out what a client wants to achieve, we recommend a choice of essential oils before doing an additional sensory test because we believe the one you’re drawn will be what your body needs most.
These are some of our most popular treatments …
Restorative – this is like a hug in a bottle! It has lavender and palmarosa and it’s really warm and comforting so it will help you feel more relaxed and wound down.
Energising – when you’re feeling a bit down or lacking in energy, this has eucalyptus, peppermint and spearmint which are very fresh and vibrant so they’ll liven you up.
Detoxifying – if you’re getting a deep muscle massage, this has grapefruit and sweet orange which are warming on the skin and great for detoxing and invigorating.
Fitness – this is especially good after exercising because it has a blend of Indian bay, clove bud and lavender so it’s naturally soothing to relieve muscle aches and pains.
Fortifying – to boost wellbeing if you’re feeling run down or unwell, this has eucalyptus and tea tree which revive and skin-nourishing avocado, sweet almond and soybean oils.
Kevin and his partner, TV presenter Stacey Dooley, moved to live on Merseyside in September 2023 with their daughter Minnie. The couple, who met on the show in 2018 and went on to lift the famous glitterball trophy, relocated from London to be nearer Stacey’s mum.
He is currently touring with a new production of the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago so ahead of its run at the Liverpool Empire in February, The Navigator chatted to him about life after Strictly and juggling touring with being a dad…
What are you looking forward to about coming to Liverpool?
I’m most excited about playing the Liverpool Empire as I live there now, Liverpool is my hometown. Being able to be home for the week and play what is an amazing theatre, is a week I’m most looking forward to.
You’re returning to the stage as notorious lawyer Billy Flynn. What drew you to the role?
Billy Flynn is iconic - I got so many texts from people when I was first announced like, “wow”. I always try to build a bit of a backstory to any character I’m playing, and for Billy Flynn I watched a lot of old
school gangster movies, to get that inner world of madness, but outer world of confidence going on. I tend to usually play very physically energetic or flamboyant roles, but Billy is very much in control – he stands still, and things happen around him, as he’s in charge, commanding the stage. It’s a very different role for me to play. That’s probably been the biggest challenge.
How does your work in theatre compare to Strictly?
I started out as a kid in the competition world, but I always loved going to the theatre, so I thought theatre would be my destination eventually. I left the competitions in my 20s and went into theatre, and for me I much preferred it. I know I ended up on Strictly Come Dancing, which is essentially a competition, but I approached it as if I was in the theatre – we’re all a team creating a show together. I much prefer being part of a company, being on stage, all working together towards the same goal to create magic for an audience.
Do you still relish the opportunity to dance, or are you enjoying flexing a different skill?
I went into theatre before I was on Strictly - I was on Broadway in 2009 and did my first West End show in 2010 - so for me it’s always been a thing. I’ve always been interested in acting and singing. I know people
see me as a dancer, but I always consider myself as a performer and an actor first. For me, it’s really all about storytelling and the characters.
Chicago is the longest running American musical in Broadway and West End history. Why do you think it stands the test of time?
I think Chicago has lasted this long because it’s an exciting, dynamic story, that still speaks a lot to today’s world – especially regarding the want for instant fame. The music is phenomenal and I think people also have a love affair with the choreography and style of Bob Fosse.
How do you keep yourself on top form both physically and mentally?
I feel like I’ve been on tour since 2008, when I first started touring the world with Burn the Floor. I’m an extremely boring person now, I don’t drink or anything like that. I’m happy to finish the show and then be in bed an hour later with a cup of tea. I suppose mentally the most difficult bit is being away. I didn’t have to think about it before, but now I’ve got a daughter, I do miss her and Stacey. But we make it work as best as we can.
Chicago is at the Empire from February 10 - February 15.

WAREHOUSE LIVERPOOL
A NEW SHOW APARTMENT AT STANLEY DOCK’S LANDMARK TOBACCO WAREHOUSE
CELEBRATES LOCAL HERITAGE AND CONTEMPORARY STYLE
Located opposite the Titanic Hotel, the new waterfront neighbourhood of 550 New York warehouse-style homes is at the heart of Liverpool Docks’ waterfront regeneration.
TITANIC HOTEL GUESTS GAZING OUT ACROSS THE STILL WATERS OF STANLEY DOCK CAN’T FAIL TO BE AWESTRUCK BY ANOTHER LANDMARK BUILDING, THE MAGNIFICENT TOBACCO WAREHOUSE.
One of the most important buildings on Liverpool’s historic docks, its extraordinary architecture and quayside spot puts it at the heart of the city’s £14 billion regeneration boom, in which the historic docklands have a key role.
When it was built at the turn of the 20th century, as a tobacco warehouse and store for goods shipped from across the globe, Tobacco Warehouse became the largest brick building in the world, at an aweinspiring 14 storeys and with a floor area of more than 1.6 million sq. ft. Now meticulously restored and boldly reimagined, the iconic Grade II Listed building is being transformed into Liverpool’s hottest address, in a scheme of 550 warehouse-style duplex apartments and penthouses.
The homes’ interiors are a carefully balanced blend of Victorian industrial hallmarks such as bare-faced brickwork, huge multi-paned windows and cast-iron floor to ceiling columns with inspirational open-plan layouts and sleek luxurious contemporary kitchens and bathrooms.
Tobacco Warehouse’s residents have been witness to the exciting regeneration of this Merseyside hot spot and the wider city beyond, making it one of Europe’s most dynamic and exciting places to live, a true centre of cultural life, with Liverpool Biennial, the UK’s largest free festival of contemporary visual art, taking up a
six month residency last summer in the dock side commercial space.
Next door, the Ten Streets creative district is set to see historic industrial buildings transformed into eateries, bars and venues (joining existing residents like the Ten Streets Social and Invisible Wind Factory), and on the ever-evolving Liverpool skyline, the £500m Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is set to be ready for the start of 2025/26 season.
There’s always a stir, then, when a new show apartment is unveiled at Tobacco Warehouse, and the latest – interior designed by home-grown talent Natalie Holden, Founder of Natalie Holden Interiors –has even had a global showcase: it was handpicked by BBC producers as the backdrop for some of last year’s Eurovision contestants’ interviews.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom 1,650 sq. ft. duplex, which offers striking views across the Stanley Dock to the Grade II* Listed Titanic Hotel, features an open-plan kitchen and dining area framed theatrically by floor-to-ceiling black pillars on its upper floor. Down the elegant stairway, lined by a metalspindled balustrade, a dramatic double-height space allows for living and entertaining on a grand scale; a huge bank of metal-framed windows allows light to pour in.
When it came to dreaming up the interiors scheme, Holden was inspired by both the building’s jawdropping Victorian architecture, its rich colours, textures and detailing, and her own childhood in the city.
“As a Liverpool local, I have driven past Tobacco Warehouse countless times, and dreamed of having the chance to design a home within it,” she says. “My team and I have paired industrial design inspiration with eclectic, contemporary furnishings and accessories, with a colour palette reflective of the building’s materials and surroundings. We’ve used a mix of heritage and earthy matt tones with finishes such as rust, ochre and teal. Luxurious materials adorn the spaces, including travertine, wood, bold velvets and textured bouclé.”
Holden has styled the upper floor to have two seating areas, with dark wood and leather vintage-style furniture, and has introduced towering modular shelving downstairs to display books, paintings and ceramics. Abstract art on the walls and huge house plants provide pops of colour and organic elements.
This multi-layered apartment has appealed to both home-hunters at Tobacco Warehouse and existing residents, who have sought Holden’s advice on how to style their own properties. It’s a testament to her success in showcasing an inviting and comfortable space for living, working, relaxing and socialising in this destination waterfront address.
The show apartment is for sale for £430,000, excluding furniture with a range of further apartments available from £275,000. For more information and to arrange a viewing visit tobaccowarehouse.co.uk or call Entwistle Green on 0151 321 0027.
