'Plum job' for Polar Circle
DESPITE the decision to decommission the ice patrol ship HMS Endurance, a Royal Navy presence is to be maintained in the Antarctic in the coming months by the chartered Norwegian vessel Polar Circle, which sails later this month or in early December. Scaring the Wr.itc Kntign and carrying a Royal Nav> crew, the Polar Circle — a 5.000-ton ice-breaker which will be renamed when fully commiuioned will undertake the Knduruncc's programme, working in support of the British Antarctic Survey and carrying out hydrographtc and meteorological work.
