Keith Puryear is in his eighth season as the Navy women’s tennis head coach in 2015-16. Puryear is the only head coach in the history of the Navy women’s tennis program. He mentored a club program in his first year during the 2008-09 season and the program has been at the varsity level ever since. Puryear needed just five seasons to reach the 100-win mark at Navy as he reached the milestone during the 2013-14 season. He currently owns a 121-37 record in six varsity seasons in Annapolis. Puryear has led the Mids to a 22-3 record during the Patriot League Regular Season and the team is 89-18 in home dual matches. Puryear came to Annapolis after spending 19 years as the head tennis coach at UMBC. Puryear coached the men’s team for all 19 seasons, while also coaching the women’s team for his final 17 seasons. In 24 seasons as a women’s tennis head coach, Puryear owns an all-time record of 336-164. Combined with his 228-176 career record as men’s tennis head coach, Puryear’s all-time combined coaching record is an impressive 564-340. Puryear has led the Mids to at least the Patriot League Semifinals in each of their first six seasons as a conference member. Navy has also made four trips to the league championship match. In 2014-15 Puryear led Navy to a 20-7 overall record and Navy beat Army for the first time in series history with its 4-3 Star Match win at West Point. Puryear led Navy to its fifth-straight 20-win season and with its 4-0 conference record, Navy went undefeated in Patriot League play for the third time in program history. Navy received the No. 1 seed for the Patriot League Tournament and carried a 12-match winning streak into the tournament championship match, where the Mids fell to Boston University. Under Puryear’s direction, three Midshipmen earned All-Patriot League Second-Team Honors. Junior Logan Antill, freshman Amanda Keller and freshman Kristine Rojo were each named to the all-conference second team. In 2013-14 Puryear led Navy to a 21-8 overall record, the program’s fourth straight 20-win season. Navy advanced to the Patriot League Semifinals and the Mids rattled off seven straight dual wins from late January to early February. Puryear led Navy to a milestone on April 13 when a 7-0 sweep of Loyola gave Navy’s its 100th program win. Three Midshipmen earned All-Patriot League honors with senior Erin Snook being named to the all-league first team. Senior captain Darien Sears and sophomore Sam Droop were both selected to the all-league second team. Snook graduated as Navy’s all-time leader in career in singles wins (90), doubles wins (61), combined wins (151) and career singles dual wins (151). Puryear was named the USPTA Mid-Atlantic Section College Coach of the Year for 2014. Additionally, Mikaela Carlson was named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team. I I I 2015-16 NAVY WOMEN‘S TENNIS I I I Patriot League Now in its third decade as an all-sport conference combining academic and athletic excellence, the Patriot League sponsors championships in 24 men and women’s sports. Initially started as an NCAA Division I-AA football conference in 1986, the Patriot League became an all-sport conference in 1990 and includes American, Army, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola and Navy as full members, and Fordham, Georgetown, MIT and Richmond as associate members. These institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation and their alumni have and continue to play leadership roles in shaping our country. The Patriot League will celebrate its 25th Anniversary as an all-sport conference during the 2015-16 season. Since 1998, the Patriot League has ranked first each year among all Division I conferences awarding athletic aid in the NCAA Graduation Rate Report. The League also had 92 percent of its teams score above the national APR average in the most recent data, and 101 Patriot League teams earned NCAA Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Awards after posting academic progress rate scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The Patriot League’s mission is simple: to provide successful competitive athletic experiences while maintaining high academic standards, and to prepare its student-athletes to be leaders in society. During the 2014-15 academic year, Patriot League student-athletes and teams have accomplished the following: H 101 Patriot League teams earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport in Academic Progress Rate (APR), with 88 of those squads earning perfect scores. H The Patriot League ranked second among all conferences in Public Recognition Awards, while Bucknell, Lafayette and Colgate all placed in the top six nationally. H 92 percent of Patriot League teams scored above the national average in APR, while more than 70 percent had at least a 990 score in the multiyear rate. H Eleven student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-America recognition, including first-team accolades for Navy’s Tom Buffone (Track and Field) and Ellen Bradford (Swimming and Diving), American’s Jen Dumiak (Women’s Basketball) and Fordham’s Brett Biestek (Football). H Navy’s Tom Buffone (Track and Field) and Loren Generi (Women’s Lacrosse) and Lafayette’s Cory Spera (Baseball) earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. H Buffone and Dumiak were named the Corvias Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorees, respectively. H Thirty-four student-athletes received Capital One/CoSIDA Academic AllDistrict recognition. H There were 2,745 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2014-15, including 217 with a semester GPA of at least 4.0. H Bucknell’s Ryan Frazier (Men’s Basketball) and Andrea Siefert (Women’s Rowing) each received the Patriot League Award of Outstanding Leadership and Character, while Lehigh’s Ashley Blanks (Women’s Soccer) was named the League’s Sportsmanship Award winner.

H Loyola won a pair of NCAA Tournament games to become the first Patriot League women’s lacrosse team to advance to the quarterfinal round, and also finished in the top 10 of the IWLCA Coaches Poll. H Twenty-four Patriot Leaguers were named All-Americans in team sports, includding Navy’s Joseph Greenspan as a first-team selection in men’s soccer. H Four Patriot Leaguers competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, and Lehigh’s Elizabeth Weiler became the League’s first female All-American since 2005.
