COURTYARDS ARE AT VARIOUS LEVELS TO BRING GREEN SPACES INSIDE AND HAVE VERTICAL CONNECTIVITY
BOYS’ WING
TERRAIN IS LEAST DISTURBED BY THE UTILISATION OF STILTS.
WELL SHADED AND VENTILATED SPACE BENEATH PODIUM CREATE SOCIAL SPACES
BUILDINGS ARE INTER CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER ON RECREATIONAL FLOORS
PLAN SECTION
MATHERAN IS AN ECOLOGICAL SENSITIVE REGION. HIGHRISE TYPOLOGY LIMITS THE IMPACT OF BUILT FORM ON THE SOIL IMMEDIATELY BENEATH IT.
EXTERNAL STAIRCASE SERVES FOR VERTICAL CIRCULATION BETWEEN CONSECUTIVE FLOORS. THE INTERMEDIATE GREEN ALLOW FOR MID-WAY SOCIAL SPACES
GIRLS’ WING
SECTION
MATHERAN EXPERIENCES HOT AND HUMID CLIMATE. SPACE UNDER THE PODIUM REMAINS SHADED AND VENTILATED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR CREATING SOCIAL SPACES FOR STUDENTS
ORGANIC FORM OF THE STRUCTURE MERGES WITH ITS NATURAL SETTING. ONSITE STREAM FLOWS THROUGH THE STRUCTURE TO THE RESERVOIR AT THE BASE AND IS USED FOR WATER HARVESTING.

SEMESTER
SITE SOUTH OF THE HERITAGE TOWN OF PONDICHERRY
AREA 20 ACRES TOTAL BUILT UP 9,000 SQ. M GROUND COVERAGE 7,500 SQ. M DESCRIPTION THE CAMPUS OFFERS A CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR BRINGING ABOUT SOCIETAL AWARENESS; WITH FOCUS ON HUMAN SCALE ELEMENTAL EXPERIENCE. CAMPUS IS RESPONSIVE TO BOTH CULTURE AND CLIMATE. THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES ARE INSPIRED FROM WHAT WAS OBSERVED IN AUROVILLE.
DESIGNING EXPERIENCE FOCUS WAS TO DERIVE DESIGN FROM AN INITIAL STIMULANT IDEA “METABOLISM IN ARCHITECTURE” IT WAS CHALLENGING TO DESIGN AROUND THIS CENTRAL CORE IDEA AND DEVELOP IT WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SITE AND CULTURE.
circulation initially circulation was planned according to pedestrian walkability, vehicular and drop-off points, etc. to the intended experience.

objectives achieved
1
Exploring undulating spacing, but discarded due to complicated circulation
2
-anchors the structure to the ground to -resist upthrust of cyclones. -provides thermal insulation while staGgered -configuration harnesses the wind. -water harvesting is possible. -connects with earth and nature. -campus should be an outward mirror of an inner concience. -to create spaces of togetherness and solitude
3
better flow of volume spaces, but discarded because of closed unit module
expansive module capable of future growth in campus. flow of volume. roof made accessible to users for social spaces (views). major axis perpendicular to wind direction using land/sea breeze for cross ventilation. eddies ventilate outdoor spaces.
