“Have you heard what is happening on the campus of NBBI next month? We will be having our 8th Annual Ladies’ Retreat, held October 21-22, 2016! If you have been to one of our retreats, we hope to see you again! If you have never been, we would love to invite you to join us for this incredible event filled with wonderful teaching from God’s Word, tremendous encouragement through fellowshipping with others of like precious faith, and an opportunity to be strengthened in your personal walk with the Lord! We are also incredibly spoiled by our Food Services Department! Each year we look forward to who the Lord is going to bring to our campus. Will you be one of our guests this year? We have the privilege of having Peg Forrest of Focus Ministries join us this year to share what the Lord has laid on her heart about the relationships we have in our lives. Our theme, Between You and Me, will enable us to look specifically at God’s expectations for us as we invest in the precious people He has allowed to cross our paths. Peg has a passion for living out her calling to teach and disciple women of all ages, whether through spoken or written word. Peg leans on her years of “on-the-job training” as a former missionary in Kenya, a biblical counselor and Dean of Women at Arizona Christian University. She also uses her experiences in leading women’s Bible studies and her love of sharing Jesus-relevant stories to

Years ago, Dr. Billy Graham and President Richard Nixon walked into Yankee Stadium meeting one of the largest crowds ever to assemble there. Mr. Nixon was amazed at the turnout to hear the evangelist who was preaching in the stadium commonly known as “the house that Babe Ruth built”. Nixon congratulated the evangelist in drawing such a crowd. The humble preacher responded quickly and politely, “I didn’t fill this stadium God did.” Dr. Billy Graham has preached the truth of the Gospel of the death, burial, resurrection and coming again of Jesus Christ in more countries and to more individuals than any man in history. His son is currently leading thousands of people in prayer rallies for America seeking to cover each of the fifty states over this year. I recently attended the “Why Jesus 2016” conference where over 5,000 people attended. Many spent the entire day listening to gifted, godly and gracious apologists honour the Lord Jesus Christ in their strong
desire to get “thinking people to believe and believing people to think.” Believers, sceptics, and seekers were allowed to ask their questions and were treated respectfully. Thanks to Daryl E. Witmer, founder and director of AIIA Institute, whose prayer, concern, compassion and vision led to having this event which ministered to the intellectual, emotional, volitional and spiritual challenges of those who came, the truth, as found in the Lord Jesus Christ, was well represented by those who participated. The Bible speaks of a contrasting scene in the last days when “men would not endure sound doctrine” (which is simply good teaching which produces healthy living in the hearers). Instead, they listen to messengers who Peter and Jude describe as having proud, sensual lifestyles and use feigned words (hypocritical lies) in order to gain many followers, 2 Peter 2:1-3 and Jude 4 and 16. These messengers offer themselves as the answer for a hope and change that only an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God can fulfil. They appeal to the fearful and those disgruntled with current leadership in whatever level of government, community, church, school, politi-
cal group, or place of employment with which they are involved. The messengers seek a mandate based upon gaining the will of the majority of the people to whom they appeal. They forcefully propagate their message, attracting multitudes through the educational and political systems, with the help of social media and cable television. So often today, churches, schools, and political parties compromise the principles upon which they were founded in order to expand their constituency. They use familiar terms, and words they no longer believe but divest them of all the biblical and traditionally timeproven meanings. J. Vernon McGee used to say “ they must be using a different dictionary”. Thank God there are still people who resist the temptation to make their foundational beliefs meaningless in order to make them broadly acceptable. “Watch ye, stand fast, in the faith, be courageous, be strong and let all things be done with love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE
BY MATTHEW LITTLE Let’s Stick Together
The Vietnam War saw approximately 1.3 million people lose their lives. During those years from 19651975, many Vietnamese families daily lived in fear that their village would be bombed or that they would be caught in the crossfire. Ho Van Thanh, who lived in a village called Tra Kem, decided he could take it no longer. One day he watched as his wife and two sons were killed in a mine explosion. After seeing the horrors of that event and feeling he had no other option, the panicked 42 year old man grabbed his remaining son and fled deep into the jungle. His son, Ho Van Lang, was just two years old when they left. The father and son lived in the jungle undetected by society for the next 40 plus years. In August of 2013 villagers spotted the men dressed in clothing made from tree bark and they alerted officials.
The now 82 year old man and his 41 year old son were found. They had built an elaborate tree house and had survived by growing corn and foraging for fruits and vegetables. In Genesis 2:18 God said that it wasn’t good that man should be alone and so created Eve to be a companion and helper for Adam. In the same way believers in Jesus Christ are not supposed to go-it-alone. We need each other and yet sadly many followers of Christ choose the solitude of their own lives rather than a shared experience with others that could spur them on to a greater faith and service. We may not flee to the jungle like the above mentioned example but we can very easily build walls of seclusion around us. This is precisely what Satan wants and the early church was aware of that and refused to allow it to happen.
“BUILDING THE BASE” DINNERS
Acts 2:42-44 says, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common.” No wonder Hebrews 10: 24-25 commands us to, “… consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”. One of my favourite quotes about Christian togetherness came from the great preacher, Vance Havner, who said, “Christians, like snowflakes, are frail but when they stick together they can stop traffic.” Let’s stick together !
CHAPEL SPEAKERS
WITH MATTHEW LITTLE & WILBUR MATTHEWS
EVERYONE INVITED (not just alumni) 2
BY MATTHEW LITTLE November 4-5 Someone once said, “To train a child in the way they must go, you must go that way yourself.” Children need to be taught God’s Word and see it modeled before them. If you see the importance of that, then our Kids’ Quest Weekend is just what you need. Your children (grades 2-6) will have a great weekend on our campus with lots of fun, great food and solid Bible teaching. They will also be in the dorms with our students seeing the Christian faith in action. This will be a great weekend for your kids! Our speaker this year is Mr. Mark Lunn, the new director for CEF of Northern Maine.
WEEKEND OF WELCOME BY MATTHEW LITTLE
We are about to begin another academic year at NBBI. But it is more than that, it is a year of transformation and growth that goes beyond the mind to the heart. As students converge upon our campus, there is a sense of nervousness, apprehension, excitement and anticipation. This year, John & Dorothy McKim from Friends of Israel will be joining us. We are excited to have them challenge us as we begin this new school year together.
