God wants you to go deeper in your walk with Him and NBBI can help that happen. Students are challenged daily through intentional, systematic Bible teaching. They are given opportunities to serve in local churches and throughout our various conferences and retreats held on our campus. And they grow in commu-

nity with other students who share the same burden to deepen their walk with Jesus. What are you waiting for? Join us for our College for a Day and see what being a student on our campus is all about. Don’t settle for the status quo in your Christian life, dive deeper. What might a person who loves to garden do on a cold winter’s day? He plans his garden! He looks through the seed catalogue, does research online, and watches YouTube videos by fellow gardeners. Maybe some of you are like me and find gardening therapeutic. I enjoy going out early in the morning to pull weeds and check the growth of the plants. This past summer, I had a strange thing happen. My cucumbers were growing very well, despite planting them late in the season, due to the timing of our move to NBBI. But one day I noticed the leaves on some of the cucumber plants were faded. It seemed like they were lacking nutrients so I quickly mixed up some liquid fertilizer and nursed them along over the next few days. However, the colour continued to change for the worse. I had never

seen this before. Later, when these plants were starting to blossom, I noticed that the colour of the flowers on the faded plants was a little different than that of the other normal plants. As the flowers started to develop into cucumbers, I realized that the faded plants were growing gourds rather than cucumbers! It turned out that my package of cucumber seeds had some gourd seeds in it. At first I was disgusted with the seed company but then I remembered that I was the one that planted the seeds. I was the one that sowed the seeds and now I was just reaping exactly what I had sowed. Galatians 6:7 came to mind, “Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” When I inspected a package of leftover seed, there were some gourds seeds in that package, too. Though the gourd and cucumber seeds were similar, I saw the difference in the seeds right away this time. What I had missed earlier, now seemed so obvious. When I planted

the seeds, I must have been in a hurry and was obviously not paying close attention to what I was planting. I mean, after all, it was late in the season, the clock was ticking and I felt pressured to get the garden planted. It caused me to wonder if we do the same thing sometimes in the Lord’s work. We are in a hurry to get things done and too busy to pay close attention to the seeds we are sowing. I’m sure that we all desire to sow seeds that will produce something pleasing to God, but busyness can take our focus off track, which affects what we reap. A seed may be small, but it will always produce a plant like the seed from which it came. Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Let’s be careful to sow good seeds.

PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE BY MATTHEW LITTLE

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” 1 Corinthians 4:5. In 1925, American author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, published a book called “The Great Gatsby.” At the time of its publication it proved to be a literary flop and sold very poorly. Fifteen years later Fitzgerald died (1940) believing himself to be a failure and thinking his book was destined to collect dust. Ironically, during World War 2 the book unexpectedly revived and is now considered a literary classic and arguably the greatest American novel ever written. My how quickly and eagerly we pass judgement upon others. As a result of our fallen nature, we are often convinced of our own innocence while we boldly declare the guilt of others. Paul was dealing with a self-righteous

What are your plans for the summer? Would you consider taking a week and joining us on the campus of NBBI for our Vacation with A Vision Summer Program. We welcome individuals, couples and families. We will feed you, give you a place to stay and provide opportunities for fun and fellowship along the way. We have an exciting project for this summer. Over the past several years, we have made many great improvements on our campus. A new library was completed, with the old library being converted into “Bredin Suites,” a residence for many of our female students. Our main office was renovated and is now much more welcoming to guests. And last summer, we renovated two rooms in Liberty Hall (our girls’ dorm). 2

crowd as he wrote to the believers in Corinth. They were followers of men, divisive, boastful, fleshly, discontent, selfish and quick to defend themselves while judging others. Many of them even questioned Paul’s motives, the one who was their “spiritual father in the faith.” In 1 Corinthians 4:3-4, Paul implies that we must pray that God will deliver us from the certainty of our own innocence. Could it be that those who hurl the biggest stones in the direction of the servant are themselves less than ideal servants? Or, those who are quick to point out the sins of others is also being tripped up by some secret unconfessed sin themselves. Paul fires off a twofold warning for all of us who are tempted to pass final judgement or seek to speak the final word. First, we don’t possess all the facts. Often, in my position as President of NBBI, I have had others contact me with advice, direction, insight or even correction (I trust that is something to which I will always be open). The frustration is, they have

little of the facts, some of which I am not at liberty to disclose, yet they proceed as if they do. As believers, we need to be so careful not to be overly bold in our assumptions, thinking we have all the information, that we have unlocked all of the truth and that our conclusions are being given with no further facts to be unfurled. Unfortunately, I have done this in my own life, to my shame. Second, there is the issue of motive. Even with all of the facts, we are unable to judge the intent of the heart. Some can do all the right things outwardly, but have all of the wrong motives inwardly. Still others can make wrong decisions (Apostle Peter) yet their hearts are firmly committed to the Lord. Let’s remember that we must stand for truth by making sure the flag of truth is flying high in our own lives before we move on to others. We cannot make straight in others what is crooked in ourselves.

cost approximately $50,000. This equals $10,000 per room which is much below the cost of a new dorm. We are going to need many labourers and we ask you to consider coming for a week or even a few days to lend a hand. If you are not a carpenter, there are always many more projects taking place and we welcome workers with all skill sets. If you can’t come, maybe God would lead you to give to help us complete this much needed renovation. Our ladies are excited about the possibility of having a fresh, new updated residence and we are eager to complete the project. Would you pray about how God might use you to help us see this project through? Consider making NBBI your mission field this summer. We hope to see you on our campus!

To Ethiopia For the last four years we have gone to Bolivia to work with the kids in the Brick Yards. This year, the Lord is leading us to partner with “Little is Much Ministries of Maine” to work with children in an orphanage in Ethiopia. I met Ken and Jen Worster a couple of years ago when I was speaking in their church, Bradford Baptist. It was obvious we were on the same page; the rest is history.

Ethiopia has a high rate of infant mortality. Diarrhea, respiratory infections, malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition, lack of medical care, typhoid, HIV/AIDS, accidents, and other diseases are some of the causes of death, but abandonment is also a common factor.
