Living Water

February 15, 2021 - to Francis (ABM/B. Th. ’21) and Emily Guy, a son, Joshua Wilder.

My family lived in Northern Maine, on the banks of the St. John River. We looked out our back window, across the waters of the river into Connors, NB, Canada. The river, of course, was a constant. It was always there, never changing in location, never ceasing to flow in a north eastward, and eventually a south eastward, direction.

April 15, 2020 - to Brock (ABM/B.Th. ’18) and Grace Anne Caissie, a son, Lorenzo Landon.

Ranald McCarty, husband of Mavis (Peterson ’68) McCarty went home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2021. Please pray for Mavis, their daughters, Sarah (Travis) Walker, Jennifer (Matt) Trites and Pamela, ’98 (Nathan) Denny and the extended families. Ashley Trueman Hatt, NBBI graduate of 1964, departed from this life and entered into glory with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on March 6, 2021. Please pray for his wife Marilyn (Wilson, ’64) and sons, Mark, ’88 (Neila Nicholson, ’89) and Timothy, ABM ’97 (Caroline Landry, ABM ’96), and their extended families. Erna Irene (Slater) Webster who attended NBBI in 1956-1957 passed into the Lord’s presence on March 14, 2021. Her late husband Philip graduated from NBBI in 1960. Pray for their children, Paul (Mary), Elisabeth (Dana) Esther (Luke) and their families. 4

However, to say that the appearance of the river didn’t change would be a wrong statement. In January, it was frozen and locked in its icy bed. In April, its complexion would change and it soon would become a raging, spill-over-the-banks torrent, full of angry ice. June would give way to smooth evening waters, bearing the colours of the sunset, and dotted with the little circles that feeding trout make. August would bring low water levels and in spots, no water levels - putting the rocky floor of the St. John on display. Then, Fall with its rain would come, and the water levels would return to normal and prepare to be frozen over once again. The Lord Jesus once said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers

of living water.” (John 7:37-38). Isaiah had already said, “Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters...” (Isaiah 55:1). Also, Jesus had already had an in-depth conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well and offered her living water (John 4:1014). All the way through the Scriptures, even up to the very last book, the invitation stands for thirsty sinners and for dried-out saints to come to the water of the Lord Jesus and find there what they need. “I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts” (Revelation 21:6). “... let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take of the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:17). Our souls are born thirsty. Even after we believe, our inner beings often come up dry. Seasons and circumstances try us and parch us. For all who will come, there is spiritual, thirst-quenching water in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. The children of Israel were told that they were headed for a land “which drinks water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.” (Deuteronomy

11:10-11). “All our supply is to come from the Lord. Here are springs that shall never dry; here are fountains and streams that shall never be cut off. Here anxious one, is the gracious pledge of the heavenly Father. If He be the Source of our mercies they can never fail us. No heat, no drought can parch that river...” (Streams in the Desert, Mrs. Charles Cowman). In this season, come to this River for this water. You won’t go away thirsty.

BY MATTHEW LITTLE

Can’t We All Just Get Along? In recent years I visited the city where I spent much of my childhood. Having been away for over two decades, I noticed immediately how drastically things had changed. Houses had popped up where fields of grass were, and empty parcels of land were now filled with strip malls and various other businesses. I remember feeling somewhat frustrated and betrayed as if, in my world, city council should have reached out to me before proceeding. As I drove through, the community I grew up in hardly seemed recognizable. Such is life with all of its twists and turns. Do you ever feel that way when it comes to society? Objective standards of truth have long been eroding from our culture, and relative truth has come in to triumphantly save the day. Relative truth is no truth at all, for it is founded on the belief that all ways are right and truth is uniquely fashioned to each person’s experience. The deadly result of this poisoned thinking is that “what may be true for you might not be true for me”. These changes are happening so quickly that

sometimes we feel that the world we are now living in has changed, like my childhood city. One of the so-called mantras of a society committed to relative truth is that you shouldn’t judge. In fact, this may be equivalent to the “unpardonable sin” in the “No Truthers Club”. After all, Jesus Himself said that we shouldn’t judge. This is an example of the inconsistencies and outright deception of those peddling such nonsense. They use God’s Word as a tool of convenience to advance their own self-serving agendas. The Apostle Peter, in speaking of how the ungodly use the Bible, says, “...they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (to twist or distort), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16b) Did Jesus tell us not to judge? The answer to that question is, no. Matthew 7:1-5 is perhaps the most famous passage to which naysayers turn. In Matthew 7:1 Jesus said, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” A casual reading of the verse appears to be presenting Jesus giving a prohibition against judging. People that

walk away from the Bible at this point are what I call “Biblical Cherry Pickers”. True students of God’s Word know that context is everything. If you read verse 5 it says, “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” So now the message makes sense. Jesus is not speaking against judging others, rather He is telling us to not be involved in “hypocritical judgment”. Notice that Jesus says that once you take the beam out of your own eye, then you will be in a position to take the mote out of your brother’s eye. If righteous people do not judge, stand up for truth, correct wrong beliefs, and confront those that are treading down the road of relative morality, what might happen? We don’t need to ask that question, for we are currently living out that reality. Could it be that Paul calls us to be “a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3) because we are in a fight for truth. Are you battling for truth today?

over the years. We explored the possibility of tearing it down and building new. We found cost to be a major detractor of that plan along with the fact that the old dorm had good “bones”.

New Entry

Coat hooks on both sides of entry It is amazing how quickly things wear out. We buy something new and before long its worn out. This principle proves true on the campus of NBBI. In the late 1940’s NBBI constructed a dorm which has housed hundreds of ladies

Last summer, we completed “Phase 1” of renovating Liberty Hall. The middle floor was completed and the transformation is nothing short of spectacular. We also added a much-needed entryway for boots and jackets. This first phase of our long-overdue renovation has been such an encouragement to our lady students. This summer, we are trusting the Lord for the funds to complete “Phase 2”, which consists of finishing the third floor. With this phase completed, all of our ladies will be living in new spaces. Our goal is to raise $60,000 to accomplish this phase. We are so close to completing the interior and ask you to consider coming to help us during Vacation with a Vision or prayerfully giving to this project. Approximately $8,000 - $10,000 will complete a room. Our goal will be to complete “Phase 3” during the summer of 2022, which

New floors, walls, ceilings and doors will include some exterior work (siding, some foundation work, etc). Your support of this project will ensure that our ladies are able to live in an up-to-date dorm space. Help us bless them by completing this project. To God Be The Glory!
