Wish Book
Dear Friend of North Carolina Children’s Hospital,
When I get better, I promise to become a doctor and help other people. Chavan, age 9 These are inspiring words from a young patient treated at N.C. Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill. An incredible promise from a young boy determined to overcome his illness and achieve greatness. But before he fulfills this promise, he has another job to do. Be a kid. That’s where we need your help. Being sick and spending time in the hospital is scary for anyone, but it is especially frightening for a child. You can help Chavan and other patients hold on to their childhoods a little longer by making a donation to our “Wish Book” so we can purchase specific gift items. These items offer a distraction for our patients during a difficult time. What child wouldn’t like to step into the land of fiction and imagination for a moment and escape the fear and uncertainty they are facing? What child wouldn’t want to, at least for a moment, forget that they are sick and act like a “healthy” kid again? By the same token, what parent wouldn’t wish for a little help paying for parking or meals? Through your generosity, we can alleviate some of the financial stresses that come with being in the hospital and allow our families to focus on the needs of their sick children. Please take a moment to review the items in our Wish Book. While you’re at it, think back to your childhood. What were the things you enjoyed doing as a child? Did you enjoy reading a book or playing an instrument? Why not give those memories to a sick child? Doesn’t every child deserve to be full of laughter, wonder, and enthusiasm?
What will you promise to the children of North Carolina? Most sincerely yours,
Harvey V. Braswell Chair, North Carolina Children’s Hospital Board of Visitors
