Board of DIRECTORS PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE » Casey Wagner I would like to welcome everyone to the 55th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. We celebrate 55 years of tradition started by a few local fishermen that has grown into one of the most prestigious events in the country. I thank you for your continued support and help in making this tournament successful. We are excited to announce that the Town of Morehead City has signed the contracts to begin construction on the Big Rock Fountain and Perpetual Trophy. The center piece of the fountain is a sculpture by world renowned wildlife artist, Kent Ullberg, of a 1200 pound blue marlin. The winners of all past and future tournaments will be etched in granite around the base of the sculpture. To learn more about this impressive project and learn how you can participate check out pages 90-91. Promoting conservation continues to be top priority. Big Rock maintains a tournament minimum well above federal standards with a release rate of 95% or higher. We believe conservation is key to the continued health of our fishing resource. Additionally, NC STATE will study all billfish and gamefish brought to the dock providing valuable information to researchers for a better understanding of the large pelagic fish. Sponsors continue to support Big Rock in record numbers and we would like to offer a special thank you to our new Major Sponsor, Calcutta and Calcutta Baits. Calcutta has supported the tournament in the past as a bait sponsor but now comes to the table with a full line of sunglasses, clothing and performance wear specifically for the angler. Support of all our sponsors and advertisers allows Big Rock to donate to worthy causes and projects. This year has been no exception. In January, Big Rock donated $100,000 to our local Carteret Community College for its NC MARTEC program. These funds will aid students studying in the marine industry and provide scholarships for ten years. Additionally, the tournament donated $75,000 to the East Carolina Council of Boy Scouts to match funds for a Pirate Ship project that will be used as a learning tool and recreational facility. We ask that you patronize Calcutta and our many other loyal sponsors. They help make this tournament a word-class event. The Keli Wagner Lady Angler tournament (KWLA) has become not only the largest lady angler tournament on the east coast but also one of the largest tournaments on the east coast -period, with 70 boats participating last year. So, get your lady anglers together and go have some fun. It also gives you a great chance to pre-fish the waters to get ready for the Big Rock. Funds raised during the Keli Wagner are donated to our local cancer clinic for its patients comfort and care. In March, our official artist Jack Saylor unveiled a beautiful Cape Lookout painting that will hang in the new building and is the inspiration for the new décor of its rooms and waiting areas. Our goal is to fill the clinic with beautiful art and sculpture that will raise the spirits of patients being treated for cancer. A final thank you to all the volunteers and staff who work so hard to make sure each event will be the finest ever. Best of luck and tight lines, Casey Wagner A Morehead City native and avid sportfisherman, Casey Wagner has fished in every Big Rock Tournament since 1973 and has served on the board of directors since 1986. Casey will be fishing the 54th Annual Big Rock on his boat Inspiration. He is owner of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Company in Atlantic Beach.

FOUNDATION The Crystal Coast Tournament, Inc. dba, The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament has established a new 501 (c) (3) charitable organization known as The Big Rock Foundation, Inc. This entity is a wonderful vehicle for participants and the public to make tax-deductible contributions to a fund, which will support Big Rock charities on a sustaining and ongoing basis. “The tournament has always had participants who want to contribute to the charities we support, especially after a win” commented Joy Bell, Big Rock board member. “Lonnie Poole contributed $14,000 to our charity fund after his win in 1998 allowing the tournament more funds to help the victims of Hurricane Floyd that following fall. It is another way of giving back to those who are less fortunate”, Joy explained. The Big Rock appreciates any support you could contribute both during the tournament and all year through. The Elusive BLUE MARLIN The Blue Marlin is one of the largest game fish caught in the Atlantic Ocean. Individuals may exceed 13 feet and weigh over 1,300 pounds. The species is found throughout much of the western Atlantic, seasonally ranging in latitude from about 45°N to 35°S. There appear to be two seasonal concentrations, one from January through April in the southwestern Atlantic between latitudes 5° and 30°S, and the other from June through October, in the northwestern Atlantic between latitudes 10° and 35°N. Blue Marlin are most frequently caught off North Carolina, in the Gulf of Mexico, in the Caribbean Sea, and off Brazil. The body is dark blue to chocolate brown along the back and upper sides, changing to silvery white on the belly. On the sides there are approximately 15 pale blue vertical bars. Blue Marlin may be distinguished from White Marlin, Tetrapturus albidus, by the dorsal and anal fins and by the fish’s size. The dorsal and anal fins of Blue Marlin are pointed, whereas White Marlin have rounded fins. The first dorsal fin of the Blue Marlin is much shorter relative to the body depth when compared to that of the White Marlin. Any marlin caught off the southeastern United States weighing over 150 pounds is almost certainly a Blue Marlin. Life history information on the species is scarce. Some generalities, however, may be made. Sexual maturity for males is attained when fish weigh about 76 pounds, 103 to 135 pounds for females. Blue Marlin spawn in the North Atlantic from July through September, and in the South Atlantic in February and March. The eggs and larvae are free floating. Longevity probably exceeds 15 years, although most fish caught are less than 10 years old. Age and size data are not available, but we do know that a Blue Marlin 4 feet long weighs about 44 pounds, one 8 feet long weighs about 319 pounds, and a fish 13 feet long weighs around 817 pounds. Blue Marlin feed on squid and a variety of pelagic fishes such as dolphin, tuna, mackerel, and flyingfish. Scientists argue whether the bill is used in feeding. However, divers have reported seeing marlins not only stun prey with their bills but also use them to spear fish. Impaled fish were dislodged by the marlin violently shaking its head, and then were swallowed.

Capt. Rock Hardison

Alton Rudolph “Rock” Hardison, Jr. better known as Capt. Rock Hardison passed this year on February 19, 2013. Capt. Rock pursued his lifelong desire as a charter captain owning the famed “The Rock Along” from 19601969. He was an influential community leader serving in the Morehead City Jaycee’s, Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, the Carteret County Economic Development, and was Past President of the Fabulous Fishing Club, later known as the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. His son “Rocky” Hardison has continued the captain tradition currently aboard “O Lucky Me” docked in Morehead City, NC.

Capt. Ralph “RT” Horton Ralph started his offshore fishing career in the mid 1940’s venturing offshore registering catches of dolphin, king mackeral and billfish. He was one of the first to deploy tags in multiple species of billfish off Wrightsville Beach NC as early as 1949 working with Woods Hole Institute. Ralph began his career with a business he built in 1957, Horton Iron and Metal Company, Inc. where he worked until 2007 along side his two sons John and Terry. He was still active in an office roll there until 2011 keeping an ever watchful eye over his endeavors. Ralphs love of fishing and quail hunting lasted for many years in fact until his 89th birthday, and gave him the opportunity to make many lifelong friends along the way. He always had a special place in his heart for the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament and The Cape Fear Marlin Tournament both which he competed in for many years. First competing in The Big Rock in 1966 and for the last time in 1997 his legacy is carried on by his son John who still fishes their boat “TROPHY”, which Ralph purchased in 1988. Ralph leaves a legacy and many friends, family and business acquaintances along the way. He passed at his home at Wrightsville Beach NC on July 11th 2012 peacefully into

The History Place The Carteret County Historical Society’s “History Place” is a 501c3 nonprofit whose educational mission it is to preserve and interpret the human history of the county from early Native American times through to the present. We accomplish this by offering various history products to the general public, including in school programs, publications, exhibits, a family genealogical library and presentations by various speakers and groups. We fund this activity in a variety of ways. Our Les A. Ewen Auditorium lays the heart of our income producing assets. Year round, we rent this hall to various groups, wedding parties, musical performers, governmental agencies and others. We also present our own local history programs within its walls. This past summer and even now, Big Rock Tournament funds are being applied towards the renovation of this important community asset. The acquisition of a portable stage, refurnished flooring, painting of the walls, upgrades in the sound and light systems and other improvements are making this a “button ready” facility that can better accommodate different uses and needs.

We have also created a new temporary exhibit “We Went to Viewe the Lande Adjoyning…” which is a historical/artistic immersion into our coastline’s first European exploration in 1585. A portion of the foundation’s grant was applied to the creation of this exhibit as well. The Society operates on roughly $110,000 per year – averaging 15-20,000 visitors per year. It is supported through grants, donations, fundraisers and membership. Many consider what we hold as the “living memory” of the county. We are very thankful of the Big Rock Tournament’s grant in support of our work.

Take a Kid Fishing Foundation, Inc. For over 23 years the Take A Kid Fishing Foundation and it’s volunteers have baited hooks and cast lines in an effort to engage today’s youth in fishing, one of America’s greatest past times. They believe that fishing is a skill that was meant not to be learned, but to be shared. Passed on from generation to generation by those that love the sport. The program combines a “hands on” experience with educational opportunities that teach participants skills and ethical angling practices. It encourages children to become good stewards of our natural resources in an effort to ensure fishing for future generations. It is a rewarding experience for participants, many of which have never seen the ocean or felt the tug of a line and a heartfelt day for the volunteers and contributors that

The NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores welcomes the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, and invites anglers and their families to enjoy the many exhibits and programs. The Big Rock Tournament shares the Aquarium’s goals of marine education and conservation, and has a special connection with the Aquarium in the Big Rock Theater. When the Aquarium tripled its size during a recent expansion, the tournament sponsored the 175-seat auditorium. This summer, the Big Rock Theater is the stage for an exciting new educational program featuring North Carolina birds in flight. Pelicans, hawks, owls, falcons and other raptors and water birds soar overhead, responding to cues from Aquarium Educators. The program offers visitors the rare chance to see birds on the wing at close range. The Aquarium is grateful to the Big Rock for this wonderful facility, in addition to other generous contributions in years past. The Aquarium also sincerely thanks the Big Rock for the continued support of programs and exhibits. The Aquarium’s mission, shared with the other two state-operated Aquariums at Fort Fisher and on Roanoke Island, is to “inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments.” Its theme, “From North Carolina’s Mountains to the Sea,” takes visitors on a journey through five galleries – Mountain, Piedmont,

NC University Center for Marine Science and Technology North Carolina State University’s Center for Marine Science and Technology (CMAST), located in Morehead City, has worked with the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament since 2003 to sample these fishes. In addition to collecting samples for our own research, we also sample these fish for other scientists that work on these species because the opportunity to sample some of these animals is quite rare. The following information and samples are taken from yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and blue marlin: length, weight, sex, a variety of tissues (e.g., muscle, reproductive organs, liver, heart, stomachs, and mucus), and hard parts (e.g., scales, otoliths, and fish spines). To date, we have collected samples for over a dozen marine biologists working along the U.S. Atlantic coast. The fish captured during the Big Rock Tournament are top predators in the surface waters of the ocean. They have extremely high feeding rates and may have a disproportionately large effect on their prey populations when compared to other predators. Stomach contents are being analyzed by N.C. The Big Rock Fountain and Perpetual Trophy The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is proud to announce the construction of the Big Rock Fountain on the waterfront in Morehead City, NC. This fountain will provide significant educational, cultural and economic impact for the Morehead City waterfront and Carteret County. The sculpture would become one of the most photographed icons in Carteret County along with the lighthouse at Cape Lookout, the Shackleford Banks ponies and Fort Macon. 90 | BIG ROCK

thebigrock.com

Kent Ullberg Sculpture The centerpiece of the fountain will be a bronze sculpture of a 1200 pound blue marlin created by world renowned wildlife artist, Kent Ullberg. Ullberg has designed sculptures that reside all over the world in places like the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center, the IGFA World Headquarters, South Padre Island, TX and the Chub Key Club. He is currently working on an 18’ tall elephant that will be placed at the St Louis Zoo. Educational, Cultural and Economic Impact This magnificent sculpture and fountain will give visitors the opportunity to see the actual scale of a 1000 pound plus blue marlin that swims off of our coast. The sculpture will provide a cultural impact for Carteret County by being one of the largest pieces of artwork in the area. It will give visitors to the Crystal Coast a reason to stop on the Morehead Waterfront and therefore be a catalyst for

economic development. The Morehead City waterfront will be a destination for all Crystal Coast visitors. This sculpture represents the very thing that this tournament is all about, the quest of the grander blue marlin. The sculpture heightens the awareness of the existence of these magnificent fish. Maybe it will motivate a young child that has never been exposed to fishing to take on the challenge. Perpetual Trophy The fountain will also serve as a perpetual trophy for the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament and the Big Rock Keli Wagner Lady Angler Tournament. All of the past and future winners of both tournaments will be memorialized with a permanent etching on the base of the fountain. What a great trophy to recognize the first fifty years of winners and the next fifty years of winners.

Be a Part of the History of the Big Rock The Big Rock Tournament would like to give you the opportunity to participate in this project by purchasing a brick paver that will be a permanent part of the fountain. For a small donation, your plaque will memorialize your boat name, a captain, mate, relative or family member. Pavers can be purchased from the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association (DMCRA) at its office located at in the train depot at 1001 Arendell Street. 252-808-0440.

Big Rock

HISTORY

Flybuoy soars to victory at 54th Big Rock By Bruce Paul, Media Director Flybuoy (pronounced “fly-boo-wee”) scored a wire-to-wire win at the 54th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, winning with a 499.3-pound blue marlin caught during the first few hours of the six-day competition. Flybuoy captain Robert Hollingsworth of Charleston, S.C., flew through the week atop the leader board with a catch reeled in by Todd Baxley. Flybuoy owner Gary Davis smiled more with each passing day as challenger after challenger came up short. Davis received a firstplace prize worth $494,710. 94 | BIG ROCK

thebigrock.com

Inspiration captain Casey Wagner, Morehead City, and angler Terry Clark, Beaufort, landed a 437.7-pound blue marlin Tuesday that proved big enough to finish in second place. Wagner, the current president of the Big Rock, had been to the weigh station eight previous times with a blue marlin and never before finished in the money. The ninth time proved to be a charm as Wagner received a $212,640 prize. The 54th Big Rock experienced a tremendous bite in the first half of the competition, but this was interrupted for two days when a Nor’easter churned through the offshore waters. The 2012 event finished with 83 billfish releases (43 blue marlin, 34 white marlin, two hatchet marlins and four sailfish) and four boated blues. The 53rd Big Rock had a similar weather anomaly and similar results. Strong winds from the south knocked down the bite during the final three days of fishing and the final day of fishing failed to be a factor for the first time in more than 20 years. For two straight years now, the winning fish has been caught on the opening day. But there was a time when nobody fished for billfish in waters off the North Carolina coast. Blue marlin fishing was thought to be something restricted to the balmy waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Fishermen had harvested fish from coastal waters for centuries and had never caught a blue marlin. This was still the case in 1956. But sailors from cargo ships that came ashore at the Morehead City port would tell residents they had seen blue marlin not too far offshore. While most dismissed this as “bar talk,” a few wishful thinkers hoped the stories were true. These dreamers were members of Morehead City’s Fabulous Fishermen Club, a collection of local fishing enthusiasts who gathered at one of the waterfront cafes to share a story or two over a cup of coffee. They had all heard the sailor’s fish tales. Some wondered how they could find out if it was true. The year was 1957 and times were tough. The post-war building boom that was changing much of America had not had much impact in this area. Morehead City was still a sleepy little port. Residents scratched out a living as best they could.

But Bob and Mary Simpson, Bill Strickland, Tom Potter and Dick Parker – charter member of the Fabulous Fishermen Club – convinced local business leaders to put up a cash prize of a couple hundred dollars to encourage the area’s fledgling charter boat industry to head further offshore to find these elusive fish. Parker, who had fished for billfish in the Caribbean, knew what a boon this would be to the waterfront’s charter boat business. The prize money that was raised did the trick. Boats ventured further offshore. Soon, captains and anglers began reporting their own blue marlin sightings. Still, throughout the summer of ’57, no blue marlins were caught. These summer failures finally gave way to one huge autumn success. On Sept. 14, 1957, Raleigh angler Jimmy Croy, fishing aboard the Mary Z with Capt. K.W. “Bill” Olsen, landed a 143-pound blue marlin. This catch would forever change the face of fishing along the North Carolina coast. Olsen radioed back to port and word of the catch spread throughout the small town. When the Mary Z finally pulled into port, the boat and crew was greeted by a large gathering and blaring police sirens. An impromptu parade along the waterfront ensued. The main feature was a child’s red wagon filled with silver dollars. This prize was pulled to the boat and presented to the lucky fishermen. While no one knows exactly THE BIG ROCK – WHICH IS NOT A ROCK AT ALL – IS A SERIES OF where Olsen and Croy made their LEDGES, PEAKS AND PLATEAUS THAT COVERS AN AREA ABOUT 8-10 historic catch, most think the two MILES LONG BY 1 MILE IN WIDTH. prize money that no one could have predicted. In ’74, the winning boat received just $800. Ten years later, the purse reached $70,000. Twelve years after that, the purse reached $743,000. For the last 15 years, the competition has topped $1 million and continues to grow with increased sponsorship and participation. Throughout it all, the Big Rock’s biggest asset has been the collective leadership of the Big Rock board of directors. The men and women who serve on the board act as stewards of the tournament. They have been instrumental in its rise to prosperity and popularity. They established and have tweaked the rules every year to ensure the competition is fair to all entrants. They have led the way in the establishment of conservation standards that other tournaments later chose to model. The Big Rock board made it a part of its charter to give back to the local community. It established a foundation that supports a multitude of charities. Since 1988, the Big Rock has donated $2,811,991 to tournament charities. Early on, the competition consisted of a handful of charter boat captains hoping to win a few dollars and the bragging rights that came with a Big Rock victory. Currently, hundreds of anglers participate, representing the best marlin fishermen in the world. Each one hopes to win the Big Rock – the “Super Bowl” of fishing. And there are dozens of ways to win. • In 2003, J.F. and Jim Pedersen, a father-andson team from Hollywood, S.C., captured the 45th Big Rock the day before Father’s Day. It was a timely moment for both and it gave the competition a Hollywood ending. • In 2004, Donald Lane of Atlantic Beach was captaining his own boat, Impulse, for the first time. He picked up a Big Rock victory and the $711,375 first prize, staking the young captain to many other billfish competitions. • In 2006, Goldsboro angler Wes Seegars fenced off the rest of the competition aboard Chainlink. He caught the last and biggest blue marlin of the 48th event, battling his blue marlin for seven hours aboard a vessel that had won the Big Rock before in ’94 when the boat was named the Salty Fare. • In 2008, the Artemis crew suffered through 46 minutes of “Big Rock overtime” before the final catch of the competition was set free. Much like the Double B in 96 | BIG ROCK

thebigrock.com

2011, Artemis managed to hold on to an early tournament lead and walk away with the top prize. • In 2011, Double B captain Kenny Sexton, Manteo, captured the 53rd Big Rock in near wire-to-wire fashion when he grabbed a late first-day lead and held it through five more days of fishing. Sexton’s blueprint for victory turned out to be a roadmap for the Flybuoy crew who matched what the Double B did one year earlier. While the Big Rock is wild and unpredictable, it always holds the promise of a big payday. It entices competitors to come back, year after year, and has grown to beyond any early expectation. But there’s more to the competition than a huge pot of money. Billfish anglers want to be crowned Big Rock champions. They’ve set their sights on Morehead City and they can’t wait for the 55th Big Rock to begin. It’s a Gulfstream fishing tradition that has no equal. And it all started in 1957, with one lucky catch.

ALEXSEAL® Yacht Coatings looks forward to supporting the Keli Wagner Lady Angler Tournament each year. This fun-filled tournament is one of our favorite events that we participate in across the globe. It gives us great pleasure to see high-spirited teams come together in support of the RAAB Clinic. Just like the RAAB Clinic, our business is about people – not just paint or boats. ALEXSEAL engineers were in fact the visionaries who decades ago first brought aliphatic polyester polyurethanes from the aerospace industry to the marine market. We innovated the use of new raw materials and created the trade of urethane application.

From the lab to the field, the people behind ALEXSEAL are genuinely invested in the success of your boat’s finish. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many boats that fish this event and have chosen ALEXSEAL as their exterior paint.“Just as your KWLA team has carefully prepared for a ‘Best in Show’ at the kickoff party and at the weigh station, our team diligently works together to continue bringing improvements to the products and processes of the ALEXSEAL line,” said ALEXSEAL Sales & Marketing Director Tripp Nelson. “Whether it is our mirror-like exterior coatings or our state-of-the-art protective primers, ALEXSEAL is equally pleased to provide our discerning customers with a spectrum of quality paint choices as we are to support this cause that is so important to us all.” Good luck and good fishing!

15TH ANNUAL KWLA RECAP

ISLANDER ladies win 15th Annual Keli Wagner Lady Angler tourney The Islander fishing team released two blue marlins and two white marlins to win the 15th annual Keli Wagner Lady Angler (KWLA) tournament in record fashion. Islander lady anglers Abby Hooper, LeAnne Barry and Holly Wyche combined to top a field of 70 boats that hooked and released 15 blue marlins, 12 white marlins and 3 sailfish in the Gulf Stream waters offshore from Morehead City. The Islander team, captained by Bobby Schlegel, Rocky Mount, scored 1,050 points for its four releases, the highest release total in KWLA history. The event featured a $42,925 purse and raised $18,250 for the Raab Cancer Center in Morehead City. Hooper, who caught a white marlin and a blue marlin, Barry, who caught a blue marlin, and Wyche, who caught a white marlin, edged the Chainlink fishing team for the $7,437.50 billfish release prize. Chainlink lady anglers released two blue marlins and one white marlin, good for 925 points. Benchmark lady anglers came in third with the release of two blue marlins, worth 800 points. Benchmark lady anglers bumped Double B out of the third spot when they tallied their second blue marlin release 24 minutes before the end of fishing. “They had a great day offshore,” said Big Rock board member Randy Ramsey, who handled the radios for the KWLA event. “This would have been a big day for any billfish tournament. You could tell it was going to be good from the start.” Islander had the first hookup of the 15th KWLA and released a white marlin just 14 minutes after lines went in the water. The Islander lady anglers then released a blue marlin at 10:13 a.m. and a second blue marlin 21 minutes later. Billfish action like this has not been the norm for previous KWLA events. No billfish were released in 1998 or 2002 and only two releases were recorded in 2003. Last year, Fin Hunter won the competition with an early hookup and release of a sailfish. The luckiest catch of the day happened aboard Galot III

1st Place Billfish Release - ISLANDER Captain Bobby Schlegel, Angler Abbey Hooper where Morehead City angler Emma Brooks reeled in a 31.9-pound dolphin. That fish was big enough to win the dolphin division prize of $2,479.17 and the winner-take-all dolphin prize of $22,950. Dancin’ Outlaw angler Katie Wood of Harkers Island reeled in a 34.6-pound wahoo to help her team win the $2,479.17 largest wahoo prize. Since no tuna were boated for the second straight year, the tuna purse will once again roll and carry $7,579.17 forward to next year’s KWLA tuna division purse. In addition to the record number of billfish hookups during the 15th KWLA, there were a record number of blue marlin battles that lasted more than an hour. “Chainlink, Bill Collector and Accordingly all had fights that went more than 60 minutes,” Ramsey confirmed. “This was a great day for the ladies.”

Blue Marlin Makaira Nigricans Dark blue to chocolate brown body along the back and upper sides, changing to silvery white on the belly. On the sides there are approximately 15 pale blue vertical bars. Blue Marlin may be distinguished from White Marlin by the dorsal and anal fins and by the fish’s size.

White Marlin Tetrapturus Albidus The most characteristic feature of the White Marlin is the rounded, rather than pointed, tips of the pectoral fins, first dorsal fin and first anal fin. The body is dark blue to chocolate along the upper half and brownish to silvery white along the lower sides and belly. The first dorsal fin is blueblack and covered with many small black spots. The other fins are brown-black. Unlike Blue Marlin, the White Marlin usually has no spots or bars on the sides. The White Marlin has a clearly visible lateral line. Usually less than 100 lbs. with a majority in the 40-60 lb. range. In comparison, the Blue Marlin has pointed fins, and the lateral line is not evident.

Sailfish

Istiophorus Platypterus

Not Pictured:

Longbill Spearfish

Sailfish are dark blue along the upper half of the body, fading to brownish-blue on the lower sides to silver white on the belly. The first dorsal fin is high, sail-like, blueblack, and covered with many small black spots. All related billfishes have a high dorsal fin as juveniles, but only the Sailfish retains the high fin throughout life. The other fins are silver-blue. On the sides are 15-20 vertical bars consisting of several small blue spots. The majority of Sailfish caught off the North Carolina coast range from 20 to 50 lbs.

Tetrapturus pfluegeri Spearfish, Hatchet Marlin The Longbill, which attains a length of 6-1/2 feet, may be distinguished from the more common White and Blue Marlins by the slender body, the number of rays in the two dorsal fins (44 to 50; and 6 or 7), and the close proximity of the anus to the origin of the first anal fin. The body is dark blue dorsally, brownish-white along the sides, and silvery on the belly; overall it lacks conspicuous vertical bars. The first dorsal fin is blue-black and unspotted.

High-Powered couple. We all know couples that complete each other’s thoughts. That’s how these two work to create skin that looks more even toned and younger than its years. Even Better Clinical came first. We call it the Dark Spot Corrector because this mighty serum compares to a leading prescription ingredient in its power to even skin tone. Even Better Makeup creates that uniform nearly perfect look instantly. And over time, helps brighten skin too. Give them 4 to 6 weeks, and one fine morning you may just look in the mirror and decide it’s a no-foundation day. See why at Clinique.

Bring this ad to Clinique at in Morehead City to receive a free 5 day supply of foundation.
