OUR HOLIDAY MARKET
& looking ahead to 2019
D I D YO U K N O W ?
Contrary to popular belief, our local real estate market remains vibrant during the holiday season. With folks enjoying time off from work, planning for warmer months ahead and enjoying the benefits of year-end bonuses, the timing couldn’t be better for many potential purchasers.
December 2017 was the 4th biggest closing month of the year for the team at MCKRE.
As the year draws to a close, we’re also encouraging our clients to let us know if they are considering a sale in 2019. If so, the time to take action is now! Our local market is far more year-round than one might think, with January and February the sweet spot for listing your home, and March, April and May the busiest closing months of the year. Second home purchasers in particular prefer to buy prior to Memorial Day so they can be settled and ready to enjoy the summer.
If you are considering a sale in the next 12 months, contact us for a customized marketing plan and current value analysis. Now is the time to create a strategy that will maximize your return!

QUICK & EASY
MENU ADDITIONS 2 tbsp oil 1 large yellow onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 1/2 cups carrots, chopped 1 1/2 cup cremini mushrooms, chopped 1 cup leeks, chopped 2 tablespoons flour 2 cups vegetable stock 1 cup milk 1 lb baby potatoes 1 tablespoon fresh thyme 1 cup lacinato kale, chopped 1 cup frozen peas 1 teaspoon each salt & pepper 1 can chickpeas, rinsed & strained
INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 425°F and set aside 6 ovenproof ramekins. Heat a stock pot over medium highheat and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Cook onion until translucent, then add garlic, carrots and mushrooms and cook for 5 minutes. Next, add leeks and flour and stir until the flour has coated the vegetables. Pour in vegetable stock and milk and stir. Add 3/4 cup chopped potatoes and thyme. Place a lid over the pot and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are fork tender. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add kale, frozen peas, salt, pepper, and rinsed chickpeas. Cook for another 5 minutes, until the kale begins to soften. Divide the veggie filling into ramekins. Thinly slice potatoes for the pot pie “crust”. Layer potato slices over top each ramekin, then brush with remaining tablespoon of oil. Sprinkle with a bit of extra salt and black pepper. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the tops are crispy and golden brown. Let the ramekins cool slightly, then serve!
“We suggest Baumard Savennieres ($50), a bone-dry, 100% Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley in France. This wine is elegant, minerally, clean & crisp, with incredible length and complexity.”

MCKRE NEWSLETTER
1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 cup real maple syrup 2 tbsp Dijon mustard 1 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp ground pepper 1 dash cayenne 3/4 cup pecan pieces
INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Whisk olive oil, maple syrup and Dijon mustard in a small bowl or jar. Pour over Brussels sprouts in separate bowl. Add salt, pepper and dash of cayenne. Mix to combine. Place face down on large baking sheet and roast for 20 minutes or until tender (stir halfway through). Meanwhile, cook bacon according to package instructions, then cut into bite-size pieces. Toast pecan pieces in a skillet over medium heat, until fragrant (3-5 minutes). Sprinkle toasted pecans and bacon over roasted Brussels sprouts and serve alongside any holiday entree.
“This dish is asking for an elegant red wine with a hint of spiciness (herbs, not heat), and we suggest the Chateau de Lavernette Beaujolais-Villages ($35) from France, or the Salem Wine Co. Pinot Noir ($45) from Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon.”
Meet our friend Jeremy Overman, Promise’ Land Market’s Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW). We sat down with Jeremy as he graciously provided us with the perfect pairings for each of our simple holiday favorites – his expert recommendations are below!
INSTRUCTIONS Wash bag of cranberries under cool water, then dump into a medium saucepan. Pour in 1 cup of cranberry juice (or juice of choice). Pour in 1 cup maple syrup. 1 12 oz. bag cranberries 1 cup cranberry juice (or orange, apple or any other juice combination) 1 cup pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup!) 3 tablespoons juice (other options: orange zest, lemon zest)
FOR THE CRUST: 3/4 cup pitted Medjool dates (about 7 dates), soaked in hot water for 10 minutes 1 1/2 cups raw pecans, plus 12 full pecans for topping pinch of pink salt FOR THE FILLING: 1/3 cup pumpkin puree 1/3 cup full fat coconut milk
Add orange juice (or citrus of choice). Stir together and turn heat on high until it reaches a boil. Once it comes to a rolling boil, turn the heat down to medium-low and continue cooking over lower heat for about 10 minutes, or until the juice is thick. Once thick, spoon into an heirloom vessel or overtop freshly-made turkey!
“The best wine to pair with an entire holiday meal, but especially cranberries, is always bubbles! We recommend the Extra-Brut from Raventos Blanc de Blancs 2016 ($30).”
INSTRUCTIONS In a food processor, combine the drained dates, pecans and salt. Process until combined and the “dough” starts to form into a ball. In a separate bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, coconut milk, pumpkin pie spice, maple syrup and pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth. Line a cupcake tin and evenly press the 1 1/2 tablespoons of crust mixture into the bottom of each. Evenly disperse the pumpkin pie filling among each cupcake, until the tins are about half way full. Top each with a pecan and place in the freezer for at least 1 hour. Serve fresh from the freezer!
1 tsp pumpkin spice 1/4 cup maple syrup pinch of pink salt
H O L I D AY 2 0 1 8
“The Prodigo Sangiovese ($26/half bottle) from Italy has a delicious richness that should lift these pumpkin bites to a another level, adding hints of chocolate & raspberry with enough velvet to linger throughout the evening.”

HANDLETTERING Are you blessed with the gift of good handwriting? Show it off! Letter a unique gift tag or on the wrapping paper itself. SHEET MUSIC If you’re looking to recycle, head to your attic in search of some old sheet music. It makes great wrapping paper, plus the black and white pairs well with traditional Christmas colors.
INITIAL TAGS Take a more minimalistic approach to gift tags by tying his/her first initial to the face of the package. Bonus points: glitter!
