North Carolina Central University competes in 15 men’s and women’s sports as a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I-FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) level. Men’s intercollegiate teams include football, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, tennis, golf and cross country. Women’s intercollegiate teams include basketball, volleyball, indoor and outdoor track & field, tennis, softball, golf and cross country. NCCU’s athletic programs have enjoyed regional and national recognition for years, headlined by the 1989 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.
