In2022,NewCastleCountyVoTechenteredintoauniquepartnership withtheCityofWilmingtontotrainyoungpeoplewhilerehabilitating Cityneighborhoods Theinitialgoalwastorecruit20-25Wilmington residents,ages16-24,andprovidethemwiththetrainingandskills necessarytocontributetothevitalityoftheirhometown Mayor MichaelPurzyckipledgedtousepartoftheCity'sNeighborhood RedevelopmentPlanfundstopayfortheNCCVTLiaisontothe programaswellasanyclassroominstruction,vocationaltraining, certifications,supplies,andmore.
Initsfirstyearofimplementation,theprogramhasbeenaconfirmed success.Morethan20Cityyouthearnedatotalof$80,000whilealso learningskilledtradesandacademiccredits.Studentsareconnected withemployermentorsforprojectstorestoreandenhanceproperties onWilmington'sEastSide.
