Peter Knight’s Gigspanner Since leaving folk-rockers Steeleye Span, legendary fiddler Peter Knight has focussed on Gigspanner, where his playing is complemented by the flawless guitar work of Roger Flack and the hand drums and percussion of Sacha Trochet. The trio has established a burgeoning reputation as one of the most innovative acts on the folk/roots scene. British folk music forms the bedrock of their repertoire, but their arrangements stretch the envelope and bring in subliminal, multicultural influences from French, Cajun, Cuban, East European and other traditions. “Spellbinding”, “sublime”, “blown away”, “inspired” and “magical” are words which occur over and over in reviews. “Peter Knight can spin the world on his bow” Sir Terry Pratchett gigspanner.com Promoted in association with the Black Swan Folk Club

Quercus
Quercus brings together three of the UK’s most creative, multi-award-winning musicians to create exquisite chamber music that weaves together the essence of folk and jazz. Two-time winner of the BBC Folk Awards Singer of the Year, June Tabor rose to fame in the mid ‘70’s and has maintained a high-profile career ever since, working with the likes of Maddy Prior and the Oyster Band amongst many others. Listed in the BBC’s 100 Jazz Legends, Iain Ballamy is one of the UK’s most widely celebrated jazz musicians and composers, enjoying an international career stretching from Scandinavia to India. Welsh pianist Huw Warren’s distinctive and enticing music has led to collaborations with Maria Pia de Vito, Mark Feldman and Erik Truffaz. Together they create beautifully poignant music that forges June’s intensely passionate voice with Iain’s gloriously mellifluous melodies and Huw’s off-kilter musicality, to tell of life’s bitter sweet tales. “…clarity, stillness and deep but fragile sound. SOAR Following unanimous critical raves for their 2013 debut Clychau Dibon, classicallytrained Welsh harpist Catrin Finch and Senegalese kora maestro Seckou Keita delivered a triumphant second album with 2018’s SOAR, again charting inspirational common ground between seemingly disparate traditions. Thematically inspired by the osprey and its annual migrations between Europe and Africa, the album’s intoxicating, often improvised synergy captures a magical meeting of minds and talents within a borderless musical landscape.

Themes of migration - natural, enforced and economic - run throughout SOAR, drawing deep on the sometimes darker history of these two great musical nations. ‘Like the iconic raptor, it swoops and soars to capture the bird’s very essence,’ says Dave Haslam, in his 5* review for RnR Magazine, ‘SOAR is as near to perfection as it is possible’. Their live performances of the album garnered 5* reviews from both The Guardian and The London Evening Standard, with Songlines Magazine’s Tim Cumming describing them as ‘the most popular world music
act of the decade’. SOAR won the prestigious fRoots Critics Poll Album of The Year 2018, Transglobal World Music Charts Best Transregional Album 2018, and has been named in MOJO and Songlines Magazines Top Ten Albums of the Year 2018. “an emotional demonstration of how two virtuoso musicians triumphantly bring different cultures together” 5* The Guardian “Hypnotic and ethereal, SOAR is a unique marriage of cultures” 4* The Observer
