Hey Key Club! It’s the beginning of a new year, and this means a chance to put away old mistakes and start something new! I know I’m excited to share 2017 with Key Club. I hope you do too! -Kelly Le, Editor.
On Saturday, January 4th, NCKC attends the Division 1 DEC to elect a new LTG. Congratulation Areli on being our new LTG!
Hello everyone! DCON is approaching, and I’m both nervous and excited at the same time for it. Remember to hold lots of fundraisers as DCON can be pricey. I hope that this year’s DCON will be as wonderful as the last, if not better. Don’t forget to sign up for our Remind101! Yours in service, NCKC President

Article by: Hannah Carson On Sunday, January 22nd, NCKC attended the Stockyard in the Cultural District of Fort Worth. We arrived at noon, and right away, we noticed how packed and full of excitement the event was going to be! Before we could begin, we had to make our way to the Ambassadors, who will instruct us what to do. We weaved through hundreds of people, getting lost here and there. Of course, we had some help from the workers at the stockyard. They were all friendly and made us feel welcome. After an eternity of searching, we finally found them! They were all the way in the back of the stockyard. We were appointed greeters at the event. All we had to do was nicely greet the visitors as they came and provide directions if needed. There were lots of families who attended with their adorably small children. Our volunteering service was short-lived, unfortunately, when the Ambassadors said they no longer needed us. Although it was a bit disheartening to end it so soon, I was excited to finally explore the stockyard! The stockyard was a vast area that covered numerous activities, including a mini fair, a flea market, the rodeo show, etc.! One of the activities we attended was visiting the cattle stalls. The animals were adorable and seeing what they must go through to be sold was something new for

us. The stalls were connected to a flea market, so we went there afterward. I saw tons of homemade merchandises and cowboy goods being sold, which was quite eye opening. There were numerous different types of items you could purchase, such as cowboy boots, purses, hot tubs, hot fudges, and even more! The likelihood of being able to find something you’d like to buy was quite high. Besides the market, there was a mini fair! The fair was quite interesting as they also had lots of activities. The best part of the fair was all the food it had, which never failed to amaze me! While we were there, we had the chance to try cowboy style nachos and burritos, which lived up to their names - large and extremely good. But the best part was when my friends and I tried fried Oreos for the first time ever! It was sweet but not too sweet, and the powdered sugar on top of them made them tasted even better. All in all, my experience at the stockyards was quite wonderful and full of fun. I could fully enjoy the experience of volunteering and seeing a large cultural part of Texas!
FUNDRAISING & PROMOTI
ING DCON Since DCON is quickly approaching, it is important for NCKC to find a way to raise money for it! So far, we have planned to host a fundraiser night at our local Buffalo Wild Wings, make raffle basket, sell candy boxes, and hold car washes. Furthermore, to get people hype about DCON, we are constantly talking about it! First, I believe that we would earn a fair amount of money by hosting a dinner night at Buffalo Wild Wings. Furthermore, since it’s a popular place and a lot of people go there, we hope it will be a success! Second is our Easter themed raffle basket. The basket will contain Easter related items such as chocolate eggs, a rabbit plush, Peeps, and more! Last year, we made a Valentine’s raffle basket and it was a huge success as it did raise us quite a bit of money. As a result, we are hoping for the same, if not better, turnout this year! Third, we are going to sell candy boxes at our school. We have already sold candy boxes once, and it went quite well. Inside the boxes were numerous candies such as skittles, Oreos, fruit snacks, and more. Since everybody, from students to teachers, enjoy the occasional snacks, it sold pretty quickly. We know that we can always count on the candy boxes to bring in the right amount of profit for us. Lastly, NCKC occasionally holds car washes at our local Chick-fil-A as part of our fundrais-
ers. We had them twice during the summer and each went well. We plan to hold another one soon and hope it goes well also. The car washes are free for everybody, but tips are always appreciated! As for promoting DCON, NCKC has made a point to discuss about it during our weekly meetings. Officers and members who went last year are always encouraged to share their experience (to which they do). As a result, this gives new members who are interested in going what DCON is all about. Last year, I unfortunately did not go, but I heard from previous attendees that it was extremely fun and exciting! So far, many of our Key Club members have shown interest in attending and are hopeful that they can go. DCON is a place for everybody, and in turn, we encourage people to participate as it is a memorable experience. Former attendees all had pleasant experience, and they want to share that with everybody. Everybody is now excited for DCON, and NCKC is doing our best to prepare for it! We hope that by holding numerous fundraisers, we are able to raise enough money to make it cheap enough for everybody who wants to go. We all know that DCON can be pricey, so we want to limit that as much as possible. DCON this year will be amazing!

MY FAVORITE ASPECTS OF
Article by: Brian Tran
F KEY CLUB IN 2016 One of my favorite aspects of this year for Key Club is that it is my last year. Now, I do not mean this in a negative way, so don’t jump to conclusion. What I meant was that since this is my last year in Key Club, this means that this is the best year to go all out! I want to make it as memorable as possible before I must bid the bittersweet farewell. In the past year, I got involved in Key Club like I have never before, and I do not regret one bit of it. I became more active and even attain an officer position! Even though the position is a small one, I am still grateful to be part of the wonderful Key Club officer board. Similar to countless seniors out there, I want to make my final year in high school the best that it can be, and I’m doing it through Key Club! I have now realized that participating in Key Club and just being part of it brings me great joy. Although this sounds cliché, but helping people gives me a wonderful feeling. It makes me feel that I actually have a purpose in this world, and that there are people out there who need me. Because of it, I have created bonds with people that I will never forget.
that matter, just to be in it. To get the most fulfillment out of a club, you must actively participate in it, or just as often as you can. I am giving you this advice simply for atoning my regret. I did not participate much in the last year due to other obligations, and it has been one of my regrets. But I realized that by simply attending events, you get a feel of what Key Club is all about. It is not just your local club at school, it is a huge international organization! If I were to pull one lesson from Key Club, it is to just thoroughly enjoy my senior year. It is my last year in high school, and it should be a year where I reminiscent what I have gone through for the last 17 years. Also, it is my most relaxing year in terms of academics, except when it comes to AP Calculus. So before I take the next big step in life, I just need to enjoy the most leisure time I will have.
In 2016, I realized that you should not just be in Key Club, or any club for
