Weekend 1 is June 3-4 and Weekend 2 is June 10-11. Studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, unless otherwise noted.
Join us this year for North Coast Open Studios Art Night, Friday, June 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A listing of participating artists and Art Night-specific maps are on pages 4-5.
North Coast Open Studios is an annual showcase of local artists and their art in Humboldt County. Included in this guide, you will find listings for artists who are opening their studios (their “natural habitats,” if you will) to the public, allowing art lovers a glimpse into the creative process.
Visitors to North Coast Open Studios will have an opportunity to see what happens inside an artist’s creative space. Meet the artists and see work from a wide array of art styles, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, ceramics, and more. During this free showcase for the arts, visit mid-career and emerging artists in traditional and non-traditional spaces. Talk to artists about their creative process, see their recent works, and purchase art.
WANT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT NORTH COAST OPEN STUDIOS?
Visit our website at northcoastopenstudios.com for maps, additional images, artist information and more! Want to keep up-to-date on what is going on? Check out North Coast Open Studios on Facebook and Instagram!
The artist listings are arranged alphabetically by community, listed regionally from South to North. Browse through to discover the artists you wish to visit. Check the maps, shown with each community listing, to find studios based on location. Looking for a specific artist? Check the Alphabetical index on page 38.
Each artist listing has general information about the artist, including an image of their work, the type of artwork they create, art categories (for the Visitor BINGO game on page 7), directions to their studio, contact information, and which weekend (or weekends) they will be open. Artist listings also tell you whether or not the studio is wheelchair accessible (wheelchair logo). You’ll see a mask logo alongside any listing where the artist is requiring visitors to wear a mask – listings without a mask icon may still require visitors to mask up before entering – they’ll let you know when you arrive.
At the end of the artist listings is a special section of artists who will not be open during either Open Studios weekend, but are open by appointment only, year-round. Also, if you can’t visit an artist during their open weekend, keep in mind that many artists enjoy visitors, and most will open their studios by appointment throughout the year.
However you plan your visit to North Coast Open Studios, you will find a dazzling display of fine arts and crafts to fit all styles and budgets. Get to know your local artists and enjoy the amazing variety of art Humboldt County has to o er!
North Coast Open Studios is a free event, so there is no admission charged at any venue.
North Coast Open Studios is a DreamMaker project of the Ink People Center for the Arts, and is supported by Humboldt County artists, businesses, and community members like you. NCOS would not be possible without the generous support of many people.
First and foremost, thank you to the artists who start responding to my registration emails as soon as the link goes live. Decades long participants and folks who are new to the event hold the same amount of space in my heart. Y’all are what I love about this event.
Thank you to my partner, Robot Adams (and by extension, his best friend Heather), who feeds me snacks, delivers hydration and ca eine (and the occasional migraine pill) as needed, and gets me out of the house when I’ve done nothing but stare at the registration

spreadsheet and guidebook proofs for hours on end. And my kiddo, Alton, who hears me say “event season” and knows that means we’ve got hours of studio visits in our near future.
Thank you to Holly Harvey, our Guidebook Layout Goddess at the North Coast Journal, who makes this guidebook look great, as well as providing the moral support I need to navigate Adobe Illustrator for map numbering, every year. And huge thanks to Barb at the 101 Things Publication who created the Big Lagoon map for me! What a sanity saver.
Thank you to my Ink People co-workers, Executive Director Leslie Castellano and Administrative Assistant Jenny Downs, my in-house steering committee, who shared high fives and matched my excitement about participating artists and sponsors.
Thanks so much to the volunteers who

And thank you to Jay Tilghman, digital media mentor of the Ink People’s MARZ Project, for designing our poster, and MARZ music mentor Cory Goldman, for providing music for the Arts Alive reception.
Finally, but certainly not least, thank you to our sponsors! With rising costs every year, it’s our sponsors who have kept the registration fees steady for the participating artists, and that is no small accomplishment. This event couldn’t happen without all of you!
— Monica Topping Coordinator & Participating Artist, North Coast Open StudiosDonations to North Coast Open Studios are appreciated and help us keep this nonprofit event going! They can be made to the Ink People Center for the Arts, 627 3rd Street, Eureka, CA 95501. Please earmark all donations for NCOS in the memo line.
North Coast Open Studios presents our annual Art Night, kicking o the two weekend event with an evening of Open Studios, the night before the main event starts.
We understand that some folks work over the weekend, or have other engagements… or maybe just want time to see more art — NCOS Art Night is for you!
On pages 4-5, you’ll find a geographic listing of all of the participating artists, who are planning to open for this special Friday evening event. Next to their names, their listing number will tell you which location is theirs on the Friday Art Night maps. Further into
the guidebook, you’ll find listings for each of these artists (alphabetically, by region), with a description of the artist’s work, address, directions to their studio (if needed), contact information, and a representative image of their work.
Please keep in mind that not every NCOS participating artist has chosen to open for the Art Night. The artists who will be open are in this section of the guidebook. Don’t forget to get acquainted with your 2023 NCOS BINGO game (on page 7), for a chance to win a gift certificate from one of our sponsors.

THE ARTISTS OF NORTH COAST OPEN STUDIOS invite you visit our creative work spaces during the first two weekends of June. This is a fun and free event for art lovers of all ages and serious collectors. This self-guided treasure hunt will take you into the workshops and studios of working artists throughout the county. Each studio along the route will introduce you to artists working in a wide range of media — oils, watercolors, photography, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts, ceramics, jewelry, metal, wood, glass and much, much more!
Whether you are a long-time attendee or a firsttime visitor, you will be impressed by the incredible
range of artwork available to you during your visits. You may find an artist blowing glass, an acrylic painter at their easel, a fiber artist weaving, a printer screenprinting … You never know what you will find behind the studio door. Visitors can view art and visit with artists all in an open-house, informal environment.
This is your chance to meet the artists firsthand, explore types of work that are both familiar and new to you and support our local arts community by purchasing works directly from the artists. You can also take this opportunity to make an appointment to visit individual artists throughout the year, for an in-depth and ongoing look at their creative progress. Remember, there is no charge to the public — this is a free community event, provided by your neighborhood artists.
The North Coast Open Studios volunteer steering committee is comprised of working artists and community members dedicated to opening doors to artists in our community.
Leslie Castellano is an artist, aerialist, city councilperson, Executive Director of the Ink People, and serves on a wide range of boards and commissions. Leslie is also the founder and director of the Synapsis Performance Collective, where she works to create opportunities for emerging social practices and a wide range of performance forms. She has a deep appreciation for the roles that artists and cultural practitioners play in a vibrant and healthy community.
Leslie stands in front of a wall of participating artist Patricia Sennott’s art.
Monica Topping took over coordination of North Coast Open Studios in 2014. She brings a wealth of event planning knowledge from her time on the Kinetic Universe board of directors, and networking contacts from more than 15 years of working in local media. She LIKE likes Eureka and joined the Eureka Art and Culture Commission in 2016. She won the Victor Thomas Jacoby Award in 2016, and started melting recycled glass bottles and broken glassware into lovely colored beads in 2017, then was chosen Eureka’s Artist of the Year for 2020, for creating jewelry out of recycled and repurposed materials under the name Rock Chick Designs. She’s also the Administrative Director for the Ink People Center for the Arts. Monica can’t think of a better job than being a cheerleader for Humboldt County artists.
Jenny is a poet and creative free spirit. Jenny’s most impactful artistic practice is the work she does to help system-involved young people learn to share the furious spirit of youth in poems. Jenny believes that developing an authentic and creative voice through poetry helps these young writers to recognize their own resilience and potential.
Jenny uses her poems and creative spirit as a way to heal from hardships and life challenges while simultaneously hoping to help others do the same. Whether she is sharing a healing poem, a colorful painting, wild knitted socks, or her strange and bright earrings, Jenny always hopes her art brightens someone’s day.
Jenny is always thrilled to support Open Studios in any way. More art. More joy.
