Program Description: The Líderes Summit brings together 300 students, youth leaders, and activists ages 14-25 from community-based programs and campus-based organizations throughout the country. For more information on the NCLR Annual Conference, visit http://www.nclr.org/section/events/conference/ Staffing the Líderes Summit is a challenge, but can be very rewarding. Staff members learn intimately about designing and managing a national youth leadership conference and program. The work experience is extremely intense during the Summit, requiring a total commitment of time and focus to the program from all staff members. Due to the large number of activities during the relatively short duration of the Summit, staff members essentially work round the clock. Responsibilities: Summit staff share in the overall management of the Líderes Summit, working independently and in groups on the various aspects of the program. Summit staff members attend staff orientation and participate in program planning prior to the start of the Líderes Summit (July 10-14). During the program, staff member duties include: Managing registration Monitoring workshops Conducting evaluations Managing the Líderes Contest Staffing youth networking receptions Attending all main NCLR Conference events
Organizing a participant talent show Preparing youth for the Líderes Town Hall session Serving as liaisons to guest speakers and sponsors
In addition, staff members assist chaperones in ensuring the safety of the participants and enhancing their leadership development. Due to the nature of the work and the extended exposure to young people, staff members must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Staff members also fulfill additional on-site tasks as needed. Qualifications: All Summit staff must be at least 18 years of age. Prior experience with youth development, youth training, and student organizing is preferred but not required. Summit staff must be comfortable working with youth, and must be personable, able to initiate dialogue, and able to draw young people into conversations and activities. Applicants must be available during the entire period of 5:00 p.m. Sunday July 10 through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 with no exceptions. Individuals who have high energy levels, work well in a team; possess strong logistical, communication, and organizational skills; and are creative and personally responsible are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have participated in the Líderes Summit or other NCLR youth programs before. Compensation: Each Summit staff member is provided shared lodging and all meals, which has approximately a $1,000 total value. Staff members are responsible for all travel expenses to and from the Conference location. Questions: Contact Christian Lozano at (202) 785-1670 or clozano@nclr.org.
