Welcome from NCLR President and CEO Janet MurguÍa I invite you to join us July 12-15 in San Diego, California for the 2008 NCLR Annual Conference and Latino Expo USA. We have much to celebrate this year as 2008 marks NCLR’s 40th anniversary! Throughout the year our various events will focus on NCLR’s achievements of the past four decades and on continuing our work to build a hopeful future for millions. But the most exciting celebration will take place at the NCLR Annual Conference. The theme, A Stronger America Together, highlights all that we have accomplished so far and all that is possible when we work together to achieve a common goal – improving opportunities for Hispanic individuals and families in all areas of their lives. The Latino community has achieved so much in the last 40 years, and the next 40 hold great promise. Please join us in honoring our institution’s past and our shared future! Without a doubt, the NCLR Annual Conference will be one of the most valuable events you attend this year, of fering myriad opportunities to connect with thousands of leaders making an impact in the Hispanic community and with tens of thousands of Hispanic consumers seeking resources and products for themselves and their families. On one level, you can join nearly 5,000 professionals and leaders who understand the value of this renowned event in engaging, informing, and inspiring participants on critical topics relevant to the Hispanic community. Whether it is making policy more ef fective for Latino families, developing programs that support better opportunities for children and seniors, revealing new data on the contributions and challenges in Hispanic communities, or f inding better ways to communicate with and inf luence Hispanic clients/consumers, the NCLR Annual Conference provides valuable resources for individuals, organizations, and companies. On another level, you have the opportunity to join nearly 250 exhibitors at Latino Expo USA, a family-friendly expo attracting more than 16,000 people. Over the course of three days, Latino families take advantage of a broad range of free services including health screenings and credit counseling as well as fun activities such as raf f les, games, prizes, entertainment, and celebrity autograph sessions. I look forward to your partnering with us throughout this exciting year as we ref lect on our past accomplishments and look ahead to what we can achieve when we build A Stronger America Together.
Sincerely,
Janet Murguía President and CEO

2008 NCLR SPONSORSHIP KIT
HE ALTH AND HOUSING FAIR S
Health and Housing Fairs JULY 12-15, 2008 10:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., SATURDAY and SUNDAY ONLY San Diego Convention Center
Two issues that have become keystones in the lives of many Latinos in the U.S. are those of health and Housing. Noting the impact that these issues have on our community, NCLR developed both the Health and Housing Fairs to provide additional education, resources, and services to Hispanic families.
Health Fair Hispanics suffer from incidence of highly preventable diseases – such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breast and cervical cancers – more than other groups in the U.S. Moreover, Hispanics are less likely to have public health education materials, adequate preventive medical care, or access to health insurance. NCLR is dedicated to reducing the incidence, burden, and impact of health problems in the Hispanic community. The NCLR Health Fair, which takes place on the same floor as Latino Expo USA, brings together NCLR programs and community partners with Hispanic families concerned and interested in their health, and the well-being of their family. The Health Fair provides much needed public health information and resources on issues disproportionately affecting Latino communities, as well as free health screenings and education activities promoting safety and awareness around health issues. This Fair is a direct link between the healthcare consumer/ decision-maker and the many organizations and companies addressing the healthcare needs of the Hispanic family. The fair is also showcased in its own exhibit area, facilitating direct dialogue between attendees and sponsors/exhibitors. The Health Fair is offered in conjunction with the NCLR Annual Conference and Latino Expo USA, it is free to all attendees, and it recruits exhibitors offering services aimed at family health and wellness. The Health Fair attracts an estimated audience of 5,000 people in a weekend and is promoted through a local/ regional network of media, NCLR’s health partners, community health centers, health professionals, and government health authorities. These agencies also participate as exhibitors in the Fair. NCLR strongly encourages bilingual/Spanish-speaking exhibitor staff in the Expo hall. Past screenings provided by exhibitors have included: glucose screenings, women’s health information, cardio care, blood pressure checks, health risk assessment, CPR and choking prevention demonstrations, cancer awareness, cancer survivor services, breast cancer information and mammograms, diabetes screenings, resources/programs for seniors, obesity prevention information, lead poisoning prevention, immunizations, tobacco cessation, home health care, and organ and tissue donation registry.
Housing Fair Hispanics have experienced unprecedented homeownership growth rates. Yet, they remain one of the most under-tapped homeownership markets. The NCLR Housing Fair is an extension of NCLR’s national initiatives aimed at eliminating the homeownership gap. Thousands of people attended our 2007 Housing Fair, gathering valuable information on affordable housing programs, mortgage prequalification, the homebuying process, one-on-one counseling in both English and Spanish, and much more, all in a family-friendly environment. The NCLR Housing Fair targets low- and moderate-income potential f irst-time homebuyers and provides attendees with valuable information on homeownership topics.
NCLR, A Stronger America Together
www.nclr.ORG
FPO The Housing Fair provides a direct link between potential homebuyers and nonprof its, corporations, and government agencies that of fer products and services to help them achieve the dream of homeownership. The Housing Fair is showcased in its own exhibit area within Latino Expo USA to facilitate direct dialogue between attendees and sponsors/exhibitors. Communication with potential consumers is further enhanced by valuable exhibitor services such as free credit reports and homeownership counseling.

2008 NCLR SPONSORSHIP KIT
DIABETES DASH Join us in bringing awareness to a disease that is making an impact on the lives of Latino families, and in highlighting some of the things we can do to combat diabetes and promote early detection in our communities. With the support of the NCLR Institutes for Hispanic Health, we will host a 5K run/walk aimed at encouraging Latino families, and those who care for them, to learn and incorporate simple lifestyle habits that can change lives and motivate individuals to share information about diabetes prevention, starting with regular exercise. Estimated attendance/participation is 1,000-1,500 people, with friends and family lending support. The Diabetes Dash is more than a 5k run/walk. We will have informational materials on hand and encourage our Dash sponsors and partners to share information about diabetes prevention techniques and programs, as well as resources available for families who may be dealing with this disease. As an added interactive educational resource for attendees, we also plan to coordinate warm-up sessions and nutrition demonstrations before the run begins.
