Domain and Range

DOMAIN AND RANGE Geometric Transformations

Example

Domain is: (-2, 9), (-3, 6), (-2, -7) We are translating up 6.

If the domain (or preimage) of a function that is translated up 6 is (-2, 9), (-3, 6), (-2, -7) what is the range (or image)?

That means to add 6 to y. Let’s do that! (-2,15) (-3,12) (-2, -1)

A different example… ■ If the pre-image is dilated (with the center at the origin) by a scale factor of 4, what is the coordinate transformation?

Since it is scale factor you are multiplying by the x values and y values.
