There are three choices of jellybeans – grape, cherry and orange. If the probability of getting a grape is 3/10 and the probability of getting a cherry is 1/5, what is the probability of getting an orange?
There are three options. So the total of all three is one. 3/10 + 1/5 + ? = 1 Find a common denominator. 3/10 + 2/10 + ? = 1

Now add: 3+2 = 5 5/10 is already accounted for with 2 choices Now, do 10 – 5 = 5 for the orange. 5/10 or ½ is the probability of getting an orange.
