Established in 2006, The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi is the academic leader in addressing potential threats and risks to the safety and security of sporting events. Our program is top among academic institutions studying the techniques, strategies and solutions that address safety and security risks inherent in spectator sports venues. The National Center continues to enhance the level of preparedness at sporting events nationwide through cutting-edge research, internationally recognized educational programs, professional training courses and innovative solutions. NCS4 is also home to the National Institute for the Study of Sport Incidents and the National Sport Security Laboratory, which equips current and future sports mangers with the specialized skills and knowledge they need to deal with real challenges in maintaining secure sports venues. The National Centerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s board of advisors consists of security and facility directors from each major sport league: INDY Racing, LPGA, MLB, MLS, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, NHL, PGA, USGA, USOC, USTA, and members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). NCS4 also works closely with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), as well as private sector members and experts from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The goal of NCS4 is to standardize the sports security industry by providing comprehensive knowledge though professional certification. With contributions from the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading safety and security experts, the National Center is able to offer credible, top-quality programs to train security specialists for the future.

Gary Gardner, president and CEO of TOTALeACCESS, a security consulting firm, brings more than 40 years of investigative, forensic, technology, consulting and teaching experience to the national and international business and law enforcement communities. His career spanned more than 30 years of diverse service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in various capacities including executive management. His experience covers numerous areas of concern to today’s business and sports world.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Pat Williams

Pat Williams is the senior vice president of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. Also one of America’s top motivational, inspirational and humorous speakers, Pat has addressed employees from many of the Fortune 500 companies. Pat is the author of more than 80 books, his most recent title being The Difference You Make: Changing Your World Through the Impact of Your Influence. Since 1968, Pat has been the general manager with teams in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Orlando. In 1996, Pat was named as one of the 50 most influential people in NBA history. In 2012, Pat received the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Pat and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of 19 children, including 14 adopted from four nations. Pat and his family have been featured in Sports Illustrated, Readers Digest, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle and The Wall Street Journal.

Allen Johnson

Since September 2004, Allen Johnson has served as the executive director of the City of Orlando Venues Department. Currently, Allen is a member of the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Board; he serves as the chairman of the IAVM Foundation Board of Trustees and holds positions on its Stadiums Committee, Annual Conference/ Venue Connect Planning Committee and Arenas Committee. In addition, Johnson serves on the Central Florida Sports Commission, the Florida Citrus Sports, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida Inc. and the Victim Service Center of Central Florida Inc. Board of Directors. Prior to his tenure with Orlando Venues, Johnson served as the executive director of the Lakeland Center for more than 16 years. He has also worked as an assistant manager at the West Palm Beach Auditorium and Stadium, an event coordinator at the Orange County Convention Center, and a box office manager at the Tupperware Convention Center. He is a past president of the Florida Facility Managers Association and a current member of their Board of Directors.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Steve Miller

Steve Miller is a 40-year Walt Disney World cast member that has worked in a variety of operational and project-related roles during his career. Prior to 2001, Steve’s experiences included a variety of leadership responsibilities in park operations, including preopening operations at Epcot and Disneyland Paris. Steve also spent 10 years in Transportation Operations, which included parking operations and various responsibilities with the bus system. Steve was responsible for the transportation of the half-time show participants during Super Bowl 25 in Tampa, which occurred in the middle of Operation Desert Storm. In January 2001, Steve became a part of the security team as the manager of the Administration and Emergency Operations teams. In the aftermath of 9/11, he led the development and installation of the infrastructure improvements for the Walt Disney World property. He has also led the Security Resort, Downtown Disney and ESPN Wide World of Sports Operations and Theme Park Operations. Steve is currently the manager of business integration for security. In that role he works establishing standards and metrics for Security Operations at the Disney Parks around the world and leads the WDW Security Training Academy and Access Control teams.

Charles Duhigg

Charles Duhigg is the best-selling author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, which explores the science of habit formation in our lives, companies and societies. Duhigg is a prize-winning investigative reporter for the business section of The New York Times, where he contributes to the newspaper and the Times’ Magazine. He has authored or contributed to “The Reckoning” (2008), which studied the causes and outcomes of the financial crisis; “Toxic Waters” (2009), about the worsening pollution in American waters; and this year’s “The iEconomy,” examining Apple’s practices in manufacturing overseas and what it tells us about the American economy. His work was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2009, and he has won the George Polk Award (2007), the Gerald Loeb Award (2008), the National Journalism Award (2009) and other honors. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and Yale College.

Walter Palmer

Walter Palmer is president of PCG Solutions, a consulting, education and training company that works with organizations on their security and loss-prevention strategies and programs. He is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Justice and Safety with his bachelor’s degree in security and loss prevention. He is also a certified forensic interviewer, certified fraud examiner and certified protection professional. In addition to his security background, Palmer is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, the American Society for Training and Development, and the International Society for Performance Improvement. He is a frequent speaker and author for organizations across the globe on the topics of security management, performance improvement and corporate strategy.

CASE STUDIES Steve Miller

Steve is the associate director for training and development at the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi. Steve is responsible for the coordination of training and development programs, as well as assessment and validation of systems and technologies for security solutions through the NCS4 National Sports Security Laboratory.

Scott Meyers

Scott is a co-founder of ISS 24/7 and currently serves as the vice president of sales and marketing. Under Scott’s leadership, ISS 24/7 has become the leading provider of venue management software to sports and entertainment facilities, now in more than 250 venues in the U.S., Canada and Europe. The ISS 24/7 platform includes two-way text messaging, incident management systems with mobile applications, CMMS and other modules. Scott has presented and been on several panels at numerous conferences in the industry, including the Stadium Managers Association, International Association of Venue Managers and NCS4.

Steve Popkin

Steve is a co-founder of ISS 24/7 and currently serves as the vice president of creative development. Under Steve’s direction, ISS 24/7 has developed the most innovative and widely used venue management software for sports and entertainment facilities, now in more than 250 venues in the U.S., Canada and Europe. John Nemerofsky

John Nemerofsky is the vice president of market solutions for Stanley Security Solutions. Throughout his career, he has formed an extensive global reach in security solutions, exhibiting development and innovation that spread throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America. Nemerofsky launched TSS International in 2006, matching some of the strongest executives with leading companies in the industry. Nemerofsky is also the cofounder of three additional startup companies – WeSuite, Smarter Access Technologies and The Security Space – all acting to serve the needs and attend to the challenges of security enterprises.

Rhonda Blanford-Green

Rhonda Blanford-Green was named the eighth executive director of the Nebraska School Activities Association in February of 2012. She served 14 years as an administrator at the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), including two as associate commissioner before coming to the Cornhusker state. She is currently the chair of the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) Citizenship and Equity Committee. Blanford-Green has also served the NFHS as a member of the Spirit and Track and Field Rules Committees. Blanford-Green is the first African-American female executive director in the nation.

Jay Hammes

Jay has been involved in athletics his entire life as a player, a coach, a P.E. teacher and is presently in his 20th year of athletic administration, both at the high school and collegiate levels. Jay’s passion for high school athletics has him currently speaking throughout the country on maintaining a safer environment for after-school events. He is currently working with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and is the co-chair and lead instructor of the leadership training course called “Contest Management,” which covers athletic event security. He has been published numerous times and endorsed by both the NIAAA and the NFHS to instruct schools/school districts on after-school safety training throughout the country.

Elliot Hopkins

Elliot Hopkins is the NFHS director of educational services. His responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being the staff liaison to the NFHS Citizenship and Equity Committee. He also supervises the NFHS Resource Center, which includes the National High School Activities Month effort, numerous national surveys and NFHS Sanctioning Program. Currently, he is the director of the NFHS Student Leadership Conference and speaks nationally to students exclusively about hazing prevention and sportsmanship. Elliot has also been an instructor for the Indiana Department of Education School Safety Academy and the Kentucky Center of School Safety, a division of the Kentucky School Boards Association. He has also served on the USA Baseball Executive Committee, representing the NFHS, and is a long-standing committee member of USA Baseball Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

Karissa Niehoff

Dr. Karissa Niehoff is the executive director of the Connecticut Association of Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. She has been a successful teacher, coach, athletic director, middle school assistant principal and high school principal. Karissa served on the USOC’s Education Committee and currently sits on the Board of Ethics for USA Field Hockey. She has done numerous presentations at the state and national levels on issues in education and school-based athletics and is involved in related legislative activity. She has received many awards for her accomplishments in both education and the world of sports.

Mike Caruso

Mike Caruso begins his 25th year with the Texas A&M Athletics department. He currently serves as associate athletic director for events and game operations. Caruso directs all of the Aggie 21 sports in event management and game operations as well as annual NCAA regional and national championships. He has been involved with NCS4 since 2008 with curriculum development and instructing at national training workshops for Sport Event Risk Management courses, as well as a national trainer for TEEX/National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center in their Sports and Special Events Incident Management workshops.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS Tony Kleibecker

Tony Kleibecker currently serves as a major with the Michigan State University Police Department. His primary responsibilities include special event planning, emergency management, public information and policy development. Major Kleibecker served in a variety of roles with the MSU Police Department from 1975 until 2000. He was appointed chief of police for the City of Muskegon, Michigan, in 2000 and in 2004 assumed additional responsibilities as director of public safety. Marty Sargent

Marty Sargent has been involved in college athletics as a football coach and in athletic administration for 40 years. The last 30 years have been spent at Oklahoma State, where he has held a number of different positions. Sargent has been involved in several major construction projects at OSU. As a member of the construction team, he has been involved in designing and building their athletic facilities. Sargent oversees game management for OSU athletic events. He also administers OSU’s travel policies and is a member of OSU’s Emergency Operations Center.

Liz Woollen

Chief Liz Woollen began her law enforcement career with the Tulsa Police Department in July of 1982. During her 22 years with the TPD, she worked in the Patrol, Special Investigation and Detective Divisions. She was a crisis negotiator of the TPD Special Operations Team for 14 years. Chief Woollen ended her TPD career serving as a sergeant, supervising the Child Crisis Unit specializing in child abuse investigations. In July of 2003, she was appointed chief of police for the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. She was responsible for the successful emergency response and investigation of a bombing during a football game outside the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on October 1, 2005.

PROFESSIONAL INJURIES AND DEATHS AT SPORTING VENUES

Dennis Cunningham

Since May 1993, Dennis has served as the executive vice president/director of security for the National Hockey League, overseeing all security, training, investigative and arena management needs for the league internationally and throughout North America. His responsibilities are broad and include structuring and implementing security arrangements for premier league events such as the All-Star Game, Stanley Cup Playoffs, World Cup of Hockey and Olympic participation. Prior to working for the National Hockey League, Dennis served in a variety of command, management and administrative positions in the New York Police Department.

Mike Lentz

As senior director for NASCAR Security, he oversees all facets of security for NASCAR, including all investigative programs and services, event security (as it pertains to the garage, pits, racetrack and driver owner lots), executive protection, and writing the security standards for the sanctioning agreements signed by all tracks. He collaborates with law enforcement professionals both within the United States and abroad in working to secure NASCAR fans, participants, executives and venues. Prior to accepting a position with NASCAR, Lentz completed a 27-year career with the Alachua County Sheriff ’s Office located in Gainesville, Fla., as a detective on the Homicide Unit. He also served on the department’s bomb squad and was responsible for rendering safe more than 50 live IEDs during his tenure.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS Dan Mullin

Daniel T. Mullin is a senior vice president at Major League Baseball. He joined the Commissionerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Office in May of 2003 as the senior director of security and facility operations. In 2008 Dan was promoted to senior vice president and formed the Department of Investigations, a direct result of the Mitchell Report. He has oversight of all investigations, including those involving players, coaches and other MLB staff. DOI is also tasked with corporate due diligence and background investigations. Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Dan served 23 years with the New York City Police Department, retiring as a deputy chief.

Sue Watson

Sue Watson, as part of Watson Associates, has been consulting on crowd safety management, safety officer training and running spectator events for the last 20 years. Watson Associates has trained and assessed 95% of the safety officers in all sports in the U.K. Sue Watson was the safety officer for the Olympic Park in London 2012 and assisted in developing documentation to comply with U.K. legislative requirements and providing the audit trail for the regulatory bodies. Edward Boyens

After 30 years with the Orlando Police Department, Ed Boyens accepted a position as one of the security managers for Orlando Venues, including Amway Center, Florida Citrus Bowl and the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center. Ed oversees internal and external surveillance of each of the venues and assesses staffing and security requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of hundreds of thousands of patrons and employees annually. These staffing requirements also include the coordination and oversight of the Geico Garage and its Helispot. Additionally, Ed oversees the traffic control plans and serves as the liaison between the Amway Center and the local downtown businesses, as well as the Transportation Engineering and LYNX public bus service that coordinates traffic and shuttle service to events at the Amway Center and the Florida Citrus Bowl. Diane Mack

Diane Mack, a graduate of Purdue University and Indiana University Law School, serves Indiana University as the university director of emergency management and continuity and is an incident commander/deputy incident commander for the State of Indiana Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT). Diane is president of Mack Strategies LLC, where she assists organizations with exercise control/facilitation and evaluation, strategic planning and grant writing. She is an instructor for the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security and is a FEMA-authorized NIMS instructor.

Brett Burdick is the deputy director of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management with more than 20 years of experience. He holds two master’s degrees—one in sport leadership (coaching and administration) and one in public administration. He has worked with several USOC national governing bodies and one international federation in their coach development programs. Brett is a certified emergency manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University in their Homeland Security degree program and is a frequent guest lecturer in the Sports Leadership Program.

Brian Gard

Brian joined the university after 23 years of service in the Marine Corps. He served as an engineer officer and trained and deployed for numerous military operations to include humanitarian relief missions. His awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Metal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Service Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Brian brought his operational and logistical planning expertise to the University of Tennessee system in 2005 and served as the university emergency services coordinator to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. He has served as the director of emergency management for the Knoxville campus since 2010. He is a graduate of the Citadel and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee.

Ed Klima

Ed Klima currently serves as senior director of Emergency Services and Loss Control for Dover Motorsports and Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, where he oversees emergency preparedness planning and operations at several motorsports facilities across the U.S., as well as a comprehensive safety and loss control program for a multi-faceted sporting and entertainment complex in Delaware. Mr. Klima also serves as a principal emergency preparedness consultant for Medical Sports Group Inc., where he has been a lead coordinator in the emergency planning process for Super Bowls XL-XLVII.

Vivian Marinelli

Vivian Marinelli is the senior director of Crisis Management Services for FEI Behavioral Health. She provides consultation with customers on behavioral health, as well as emergency preparedness, crisis response and family assistance issues. Vivian is experienced in the development of curriculum and training of FEI affiliates to serve as crisis support coordinators and employees to act as peer support facilitators. She brings more than 15 years of work in direct clinical services specializing in trauma and grief counseling to her position, which focuses on assisting individuals involved in critical incidents. Vivian holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and is a licensed psychologist in Wisconsin.

Dr. Lou Marciani is the director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security at The University of Southern Mississippi. The center was founded in 2006 and is the country’s first academic center dedicated to spectator sports safety and security research, professional development, training and outreach. His background includes an extensive career in sport management, serving as intercollegiate athletic director at several universities and executive director of two national sports governing bodies for the USOC. His work at the center focuses on the development and implementation of FEMA sport risk management, incident and evacuation training and exercise courses. Dr. Marciani is an active speaker on sport safety and security at international and national sport organization conferences.

Al Davis

Al Davis has been affiliated with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) since July 2004, where he served first as an adjunct instructor before joining TEEX full-time as a program coordinator in April 2005. Prior to assuming the role of director of NERRTC, Al served as the director of Homeland Security Services. He is the primary coordinator for TEEX collaborations and activities involving our nation’s homeland security issues. He is also the principal member for TEEX in the administrative and operational activities of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, a congressionally chartered coalition of seven WMD and all-hazards training organizations, of which TEEX is a charter member.

Jennifer Brown

Jennifer Brown joined eVerifile Inc. as a director of national accounts in July of 2012. Prior to joining eVerifile, Ms. Brown was a lieutenant with the Michigan State University Police Department for 15 years. She was assigned to the Special Events Division, where she was responsible for planning, staffing and maintaining records of more than 1,100 campus events. During her assignment with the Special Events Division, she worked closely with the Michigan State University Police Emergency Management Division to apply the principles of emergency management to all campus events. Mike Caruso

Lawrence Rabalais

Chief of Police Lawrence Rabalais was promoted to chief on August 17, 2009. He has been with the LSU Police Department since 1989 and has a history of innovative leadership and community outreach. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and has served in an administrative capacity for the past 12 years of his career with LSUPD. He previously served as major of the Uniform Patrol Division. As a major he held various assignments within the agency, including patrol, administrative officer, public information officer and lead firearms instructor. Additionally Lawrence supervised the Detective Unit and the Bicycle Patrol, as well as the Motorcycle Traffic Division.

Bill is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (1975) and served on active duty as a naval aviator for 12 years prior to entering the sports and entertainment facility management business. Bill is a past president of the Stadium Managers Association and currently has his own consulting business featuring clients such as the New York Football Giants. Paul Turner

Paul Turner is the director of event operations and security for the Dallas Cowboys and Cowboys Stadium. He is responsible for event management and public services for all events at Cowboys Stadium. He joined the Cowboys organization in 2008 and was part of the stadium planning group for the last year of construction and the inaugural season of events. In his 24 years in the public assembly facilities industry, Paul has developed and led numerous guest and event services operations in performing arts centers, arenas and stadiums. He has previously held positions with the Philadelphia Eagles, Portland Trailblazers, Theatre Projects Consultants and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in Southern California. Bruce Whitehead

Bruce D. Whitehead, CMAA, is executive director of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), a position he has held for nearly nine years. He has been involved in interscholastic athletics for nearly 45 years with 37 of those years in athletic administration at the local, state and national levels. Whitehead was director of athletics at Crawfordsville (IN) High School for 25 years, president of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and served as secretary-treasurer of the NIAAA board for seven years. He was a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Associaton Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Frederick (Fred) Gardy

Fred Gardy is an adjunct instructor with the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). He co-authored and instructs the Sports and Special Events Incident Management and Sport and Special Event Training and Exercise courses. From 2003-12 Fred was assistant police chief with the University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). His responsibilities included large venue protection and large event planning. At UNL he developed the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the graphical depiction of data pertaining to stadiums. This has been recognized as the first use of GIS in a stadium.

Dr. Stacey Hall

Dr. Stacey Hall is the associate director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) and an associate professor of sport management at The University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Hall has been published in leading international/national sport management, homeland security and emergency management journals. She has co-authored two textbooks – Global Sport Facility Operations Management and Security Management for Sports and Special Events. Additionally, she has been invited to publish in national magazines such as Athletic Management, Athletic Administration and Security Magazine. Dr. Hall developed a graduate-level emphasis area in sport security management for the master’s program at Southern Miss and teaches undergraduate and graduate sport management courses in economics, law, finance and security.

Ray DiNunzio

Ray DiNunzio is the director of Strategic Security Programs for the National Football League. Ray is responsible for comprehensive league-wide stadium security, fan conduct and fair competition involving the integrity of the game. Ray has more than 30 years of combined experience in federal law enforcement and public accounting. As a former special agent of the FBI, Ray is an experienced law enforcement professional with executive management, supervisory and investigative expertise in national security, counterterrorism, cybercrime and criminal matters. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and holds the professional designation Certified in Financial Forensics from the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts.

Simon Osamoh

Simon Osamoh began his career in 1998 working for the British Police Force in England. As a detective he conducted highly sensitive investigations into organized crime within the United Kingdom and parts of Europe. One of his notable cases includes the investigation of a British Muslim terrorism plot against the USA in 2006, which changed aviation regulations worldwide with the use of liquids on planes. Simon Osamoh moved to Minnesota in October 2011 and is now the Special Operations captain at Mall of America, North America’s largest entertainment and retail complex. His focus is counterterrorism where he oversees the highly recognized intelligence program, behavior detection, canine EOD and the parental escort policy program.

Erik Waldman

Erik Waldman joined the Georgia Dome as the director of event operations in December of 2011. His responsibilities include supervision of Event Services, Executive Services, Security and the Ticket Office. The Dome is home to the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons and host to major events including the SEC Football Championship, Chick-fil-A Bowl and NCAA Final Four. Prior to joining Team Dome, Erik was the vice president/general manager of the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., where he was responsible for all building operations and event production. Erik’s experiences also include the Ted Constant Convocation Center, UCF Arena and Orlando Arena.

John Ball

John Ball has served as director of safety and security for Pacers Sports and Entertainment and Bankers Life Fieldhouse since August 2008. He assumed this role after a 20-year career with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. At Pacers Sports and Entertainment, Ball is responsible for the safety and security of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, a $178 million arena and home of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, as well as all events, employees, contractors and patrons. Bankers Life Fieldhouse hosts two million visitors and 500 events each year. Prior to his joining the Pacers, John was a police officer with the Indianapolis Police Department for 20 years.

Jeff Steele

Jeff Steele came to Auburn as the director of athletic facilities in August of 2005. He was named associate athletic director for facilities and operations in February of 2006. Prior to Auburn, Steele served six years as assistant athletic director for operations at Kansas State University. He spent seven years as an event management specialist at the University of Nebraska prior to his stint at Kansas State University. Steele was also director of athletics at NCAA Division II Newberry College (SC) before beginning his tenure at the University of Nebraska. He additionally holds professional memberships in the International Association of Venue Managers and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Alan Kaplan

Dr. Kaplan has more than 15 years of experience leading research and development projects involving mobile software. As CTO of Drakontas, he is responsible for directing the technology roadmap for the company, as well as overseeing technology development in all product areas. Dr. Kaplan was formerly department head of Middleware and Software Technologies at the Panasonic Princeton Research Laboratory. Prior to Panasonic, Dr. Kaplan held faculty positions in the computer science departments at Clemson University and Flinders University of South Australia. Dr. Kaplan holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in computer science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a B.S. in computer science from Duke University.

Jennifer Gant

SSA Jennifer Gant is a member of the National Joint Terrorism Task Force (NJTTF) in the Counterterrorism Division at FBI Headquarters. She is the program manager of the Campus Liaison Initiative and is responsible for the activities of more than 100 campus liaison agents in the field. Prior to this assignment, SSA Gant was the Joint Terrorism Task Force ( JTTF) coordinator in FBI field offices in both Dallas and Washington. In more than 20 years with the FBI, she has worked a variety of violations outside the terrorism arena to include savings and loan failures, financial institution fraud, campaign finance fraud and major case public corruption. Prior to the FBI, SSA Gant was an investigator with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, where she led investigations of bank robberies and internal fraud.

PANELISTS Tim Delaney

Tim Delaney serves as the chief of police at the University of Pittsburgh. The department is the third-largest law enforcement agency in Allegheny County, providing 24-hour protection for more than 40,000 students, faculty and staff. His jurisdiction includes the 132-acre Pittsburgh campus, along with university facilities in outlying Pittsburgh neighborhoods, such as the South Side Sports Complex, Heinz Field and, more recently, UPMC hospital facilities. Chief Delaney also serves on the Executive Committee for the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and the United States Attorney’s Office of Western Pennsylvania’s Department of Justice Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC).

Richard Fenton

Richard Fenton retired after 28 years of service as the executive commander of the Wayne County Sheriff ’s Department. In addition to his law enforcement career, Mr. Fenton was an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Michigan University and for the School of Police Staff and Command. Beginning in 2000, he joined the staff of Ilitch Holdings and is currently the vice president of corporate security, where he oversees all safety and security functions for all of the Ilitch-owned companies, venue security for Joe Louis Arena and Comerica Park, and provides executive service assistance to the Ilitch family.

Special Agent Gregory A. Heeb

SA Gregory A. Heeb entered duty with the FBI as a special agent in September 2008. He is currently assigned to the Pittsburgh Joint Terrorism Task Force ( JTTF), where he investigates domestic terrorism and transportation-related criminal matters. SA Heeb currently serves as the primary relief supervisor of the Domestic Terrorism Squad and as the Pittsburgh Division’s special events coordinator. Prior to joining the FBI, SA Heeb worked as a city attorney in the Law Department for the City of Buffalo, New York. As a city attorney, SA Heeb prosecuted criminal cases in Buffalo City Court and handled various civil matters in New York State Supreme Court and the Appellate Division. SA Heeb earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and urban studies from the Canisius College of Buffalo, New York, and his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.

Special Agent Anthony Rodriguez

SA Anthony Rodriguez entered duty with the FBI as a special agent in September 2007. He is currently assigned to the Pittsburgh Joint Terrorism Task Force ( JTTF), where he investigates domestic terrorism and transportation-related criminal matters. Prior to joining the FBI, SA Rodriguez served in the United States Army.

Larry Naifeh

Larry Naifeh serves as the executive associate athletic director at the University of Oklahoma. He began his service to the university in January 1986 as a member of OU’s legal counsel staff. For the past several years, Naifeh’s areas of responsibility for the Athletics department include contracts and other legal issues, capital improvement projects and funding, fiscal and strategic planning, facilities and event operations, risk management, safety and security, the men’s and women’s golf programs, and special projects. Naifeh came to OU after serving seven years as assistant city attorney for the City of Oklahoma City. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Cleveland County Bar Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and is a past chairman of Cleveland County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

PANELISTS Linda Stump

Chief Linda J. Stump, assistant vice president of public and environmental safety, is the first female police chief at a state of Florida public university. Chief Stump has extensive law enforcement experience in large event security with both the Purdue University and the University of Florida police departments. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and corrections from Ball State University, a master’s degree in higher education administration from Purdue University, and is also a graduate from Florida and Indiana Law Enforcement Academies and the FBI National Academy. Chief Stump was also certified in advanced threat assessment through the Gavin de Becker and Associates Management Academy in 2008, and is a graduate of the first Crisis Leadership in Higher Education course at Harvard in 2009.

Anthony Ybarra

Mr. Ybarra comes to us from Los Angeles, California, with more than 14 years of event-related experience, in which time he played a role in helping to open the STAPLES Center, Kodak Theater, U.S. Olympic Training Facility Home Depot Center, L.A. Live and NOKIA Theater and Barclays Center. During Anthony’s time at the STAPLES Center and AEG, he assisted in writing and creating security SOP and policy for all southern California venues, along with acting as lead trainer for new incoming officers and supervisors from 2004-12. While working with AEG, Anthony served as the site lead at Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Calif., and was responsible for all aspects of security operations from 2004-06 while reporting to the senior vice president of AEG Security at that time. Currently Anthony has taken upon the role of security manager for the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mike Reardon

Mike Reardon incorporates outstanding leadership skills, a passion for customer service and an entrepreneurial spirit into helping businesses enhance the way they do business. Inspired by Disney’s approach to leadership and service, Mike sought and obtained a role as park retail Guest Services manager for the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. During that time, he implemented practice techniques such as engaging employees through action planning sessions, safety meetings and feedback sessions. In 2006, Mike served in a temporary role as a traditions assistant, welcoming new cast members to the Disney family on their first day of employment. This led to an opportunity to join the operations learning and development team where Mike taught the principles of the Disney service basics to cast members. He also facilitated leadership sessions focused on making recognition a priority at Disney University. Mike brought his comprehensive knowledge to Disney Institute in 2008.

Mark Bodenschatz

Mark Bodenschatz was named associate athletic director for facilities and operations in May 2007. Bodenschatz serves as the facilities coordinator for Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) and is responsible for the oversight of ICA’s building coordinators, field maintenance staff, operations staff, event staff, IT staff, intramural, strength and fitness programs, club sports, team sports, ability athletics and auxiliary enterprises, including golf courses, ice pavilion, tennis center and Stone Valley Recreational Center. In addition to his duties at Penn State, Bodenschatz is a lead trainer at NCS4, offering Event Risk Management Workshops and Sport and Special Event Evacuation Training for NCAA Division I, II and III colleges and universities across the country.

Richard Fenton

Beginning in 2000, he joined the staff of Ilitch Holdings and is currently the vice president of corporate security, where he oversees all safety and security functions for all of the Ilitch-owned companies, venue security for Joe Louis Arena and Comerica Park, and provides executive service assistance to the Ilitch family.
