Eastern Illinois University (EIU) proudly prepares educators using rigorous, standards aligned curricula. EIU has been continuously accredited by NCATE since 1954 and ALL of our educator preparation programs are nationally recognized by their professional associations, meeting all national standards. These programs are the ones reviewed in your report. In addition, all of our educator preparation programs are reviewed and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Board of Higher Education. EIU educator preparation programs require extensive school based experiences throughout the program and our faculty have K-12 teaching experience. Assessment of our educator preparation programs is continuous and EIU faculty members use data when making programmatic changes. In collaboration with other Illinois public deans, we participate in a state-wide followup survey of our graduates and have gathered rich data which has been shared with our faculty. We are proud that 83% of our graduates are still teaching after five years and that K-12 administrators in Illinois look to EIU when they are in the process of hiring educators because they know that educators from EIU are well prepared.
