THE COLLECT Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through Him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE FIRST READING: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book of Jeremiah chapter 33 beginning at the 14th verse The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: "The Lord is our righteousness." Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading. Thanks be to God.

PSALM 25: 1-10

1.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you; * let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

2.

Let none who look to you be put to shame;* let the treacherous be disappointed in their schemes.

3.

Show me your ways, O Lord,* and teach me your paths.

4.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, * for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long.

5.

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, * for they are from everlasting .

6.

Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; * remember me according to your love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord.

7.

Gracious and upright is the Lord; * therefore he teaches sinners in his way.

8.

He guides the humble in doing right* and teaches his way to the lowly.

9.

All the paths of the Lord are love and faithfulness * to those who keep his covenant and his

testimonies. 10.

For your name's sake, O Lord,* forgive my sin, for it is great.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now* and shall be forever. Amen. THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians chapter 3 beginning at the 9th verse. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you. And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. And may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading. Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you And also with you A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time Jesus said "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused

by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see "the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Then he told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. "Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day does not catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

The Gospel of Christ. Praise to Christ our Lord. From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: Today is Advent Sunday, the first of four Sundays of this short season which leads to the celebration of the incarnation during the Christmas season. The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." The focus of the entire season is preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. It is the double notion of past and future that gives us the understanding that we are to be faithful stewards at this

current time, perhaps to be considered as the time inbetween. At this time of year, the christmas carols on the various radio stations, those streamed via the internet and also coming from the various malls and business places tell us that we are considering the past. We have to think theologically about what that past means for us when we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace and the implications for our world. The lights, the christmas trees, the Advent Wreath at church and in some homes must be considered to be symbols of the beauty and peace Christ brings into the world. While we consider this we also have to think about what the nature of the future says about our current duties. We are responsible for our world, the climate, the environment and for each other We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labour pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8: 22-23 Barbados, as we celebrate 49 years as an independent nation and joyfully anticipating the events for our 50th anniversary will play its part in the preservation of the environment while seeking to ensure by dint of hard work and dedication that we reap economic and other successes. As Barbadians have always held that we can do all things in Christ and that with the Lord on our side we have no doubts or fears. It is interesting that we celebrate Independence annually within the context of our Advent faith. It is that faith that

causes us to press onward with vigour and enthusiasm as citizens of this land. May God be with us as we come to Advent Sunday and may he continually pour his blessing upon us as a nation. HEALTH CORNER by Dr. Sophia Marshall

DE LIGHTER SIDE OF LIFE! Ossie Moore was walking by a big old mango tree one day from school.
He looks up in the tree and sees that it had "nuff nuff manguhs up in dere an' ting." So he climbs up in the tree and starts feeling the mangos, until he finds the biggest, juiciest, ripest one there. It was just the one that he wanted to eat.
Ossie then climbs back down the tree and starts pelting rocks at it!

* When Ossie Moore was learning to ride his bicycle his mother took him to the park. Ossie was riding around and around the park.

After a while, Ossie rode by and taking his feet off the pedals, shouted, "Look Ma, nuh feet!!" Ossie’s mother say, "Very good Ossie but be careful."

The next time around, Ossie took one hand off and shouts, "Look Ma, one hand !!" Ossie’s mother says, "Very good Ossie but be careful."

The next time around, Ossie took the other hand off and shouts, "Look Ma, nuh hands!!" Ossie mother says, "Very good Ossie but be careful."

The next time around, Ossie comes walking and pushing his bicycle. "Whuh happen?", asks Ossie’s mother.

"Look Ma, nuh teeth!!" Source :http://www.barbadosforum.com/
