THE COLLECT
Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ’s Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 5 beginning at the 27th verse.
When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man's blood on us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than any human authority. The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.” !3
Reader: ALL:
Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God.
Psalm 150 Laudate Dominum
 1. Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy temple; * praise him in the firmament of his power. 2. Praise him for his mighty acts; * praise him for his excellent greatness. 3. Praise him with the blast of the ram's-horn; * Praise him with lyre and harp. 4. Praise him with timbrel and dance; * praise him with strings and pipe. 5. Praise him with resounding cymbals; * praise him with loud-clanging cymbals. 6. Let everything that has breath * praise the Lord. Hallelujah! V. Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; R. As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen THE EPISTLE READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Revelation to John Chapter 1 beginning at the 4th verse.

John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Reader: ALL:
Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God. THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Glory to Christ our Saviour.
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you. After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive !5
the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook: For my article this week, I share an excerpt from the Easter Message that I wrote as Chairman of the Barbados Christian Council. !7
We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6: 9 - 11
For us as Christians the Feast of the Resurrection of our Lord, Easter Day is the single most important observance on the calendar. It is the resurrection of Christ that gives meaning to our lives and provides for us the lens through which we interact with the world around us. The news of resurrection began in a very small and almost accidental way. It had its origins in fear, perplexity and disbelief. Professor Patrick Regan tells us that the empty tomb initially created fear rather than faith. (Luke 24:5) From the baffling and mystifying revelation of the empty tomb grew a faith that would spread across Jerusalem and to the villages of Judah and Israel to the cities of Asia and then across the ages to our own time in the 21st century. The major question is what was it that brought those early disciples from fear to faith. It was that overpowering experience of the presence of Christ shared in their assembled communities. It was the proclamation of that awesome presence that would change the course of the lives of the disciples and millions of others who would proclaim that they had seen the risen Lord. Our testimony in the 21st century must be the same as that of the 1st century christian family members. “We have seen the Lord, he has appeared to us in the breaking of bread”. (Luke 24: 38). Christians in the world today continue to hold faith in the resurrection. One of the messages that would ring throughout the resurrection narrative is, “do not be afraid”. (Matthew 28:5, Mark 16:6) !8
We are aware that there are many events that cause our hearts to fear. There are the various health issues that confront us and our loved ones from time to time. There are the family issues that result in domestic violence and that do tremendous harm to life and limb. It is of course part of the remit of the Christian and all parts of society to stamp out this scourge. Of course we are aware of the economic and financial issues that are ever before us as a small nation in this vast world in which we live using all of our God-given gifts as we offer products and services to the best of our ability. In living colour we often see the violence that we do to each other as international countries and organizations seem to be using the law of retaliation in order to make their point. In these and all other areas of life the light of resurrection shines ever before us, giving the assurance that the symbol of crucifixion manifested in all of these challenges cannot prevail over the eternal nature of resurrection. We pray that the resurrection light may shine from within us and that our christian thoughts, attitudes, words and actions may demonstrate powerfully to our world that we have seen the Lord. Your friend and priest, Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector Anglican Studies Programme, 2016 The Christian Sacraments Beginning next Tuesday April 12, 2016 in the Church of Christ the King and continuing every Tuesday night at 7:30pm until Tuesday May 10, 2016, Canon Noel Burke will be leading a series on The Sacraments of Reconciliation, Anointing, Matrimony & Ordination. !9
HEALTH CORNER by Sophia Marshall, Ph.D It is Easter vacation and what have you planned for the little ones? Have you realized that they would rather watch television or play games on their electronic devices all day long? It appears as soon as the battery has finally died, the boredom automatically sets in and they are ready to climb the walls! Remember parents and guardians, you are the captains and must steer the ship. Here are a few suggestions to improve their physical activity and to promote healthy eating: •
Stock the refrigerator with fresh fruit, diluted fruit juices and non-fat/low-fat yogurt instead of soft drinks and high-fat, high-sugar snacks.
•
Encourage them to take part in some physical activity at least for one hour daily.
•
Don’t encourage children to eat their meals or snacks while watching television.
•
Where possible, plan activities for the family that provide exercise for everyone.
•
Enroll the children in sports programs with activities that they enjoy, not what you think they should enjoy.
•
Ensure they have a healthy breakfast every morning.
•
Limit the time that they spend sitting on the couch watching television or using other devices. The American Academy of Pediatrics media guidelines for the last 15 years stated ‘no screen time before age 2 and two-hour limit for older children’. However, this is currently under review. Parents, you may need to make your own determination to what is enough electronic time but ensure that they engage in moderate physical activity daily.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps control weight, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-esteem, and may improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
