THE COLLECT Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE FIRST READING: READER:

A Reading from the Word of God written in the book of Isaiah Chapter 62 beginning at the 1st verse.

For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God. !3

Psalm 36: 5-10 5. Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, * and your faithfulness to the clouds. 6. Your righteousness is like the strong mountains, your justice like the great deep; * you save both man and beast, O LORD. 7. How priceless is your love, O God! * your people take refuge under the shadow of your wings. 8. They feast upon the abundance of your house; * you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9. For with you is the well of life, * and in your light we see light. 10. Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, * and your favor to those who are true of heart. V. R.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen

THE EPISTLE READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the 1st book to the Corinthians Chapter 12 beginning at the 1st verse.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Let Jesus be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same !4

Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Glory to Christ our Saviour. !5

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you.” Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord. From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: "Called to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord” (1 Peter 2:9) These words form the theme determined by the World Council of Churches (WCC) for the Week of Prayer for Christ Unity. !6

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated every year from 18 - 25 January in order to call the various denominations to remember the high priestly prayer of Christ in St. John’s Gospel. The community gathered around the author of the fourth Gospel would find cause to recall the words of our Lord that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:21 There are two elements that must be made clear from the start. Firstly unity does not imply a lack of diversity. The various denominations of Christianity must all be seen as various paths to the God who saves us. Thomas P. Rausch, S.J., makes an excellent point in a recent article in which he notes that diversity is a gift of the Lord, the unity and catholicity of the church means that each local church should be in communion with all the other local churches in a particular area. Secondly while church communities of various denominations are encouraged to find opportunities in which they can pray together; the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is not a week of activities. It is rather a call to every christian to prayer and reflection on the need for us to uphold each other as christian brothers and sisters as Christ desires. Indeed the ecumenical movement must occupy the mind of every christian. There are some occasions !7

in Barbados which the various denominations have participated; such as in the signing of the “Declaration of Bridgetown” in which churches determined that they would use their spiritual resources in order to prevent the rise in chronic non-communicable disease. The various denominations have also collaborated on national occasions in conferences and workshops and in order to celebrate our nation’s annual Independence celebrations. We will again do so as we work on events surrounding the 50th anniversary of Independence. These are just a few among others. We still have a long road to travel; but the dialogue has begun and friendships have been formed on common issues. Naturally there will be some doctrinal differences; but essentially we can come together on what is common in christianity and that is our faith in the resurrection of our Lord. May God’s grace be with us during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and may we all respond to the call to proclaim the mighty acts of God in our oneness as the Body of Christ. Your friend and priest, Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector Anglican Studies Programme A new programme begins on Tuesday February 16 in the Church of Christ the King at 7:30pm each Tuesday night. The aim of these sessions is to provide opportunities for members of the church to broaden their knowledge of the Christian Faith from an Anglican perspective and to equip them for witness in their communities.

HEALTH CORNER By Dr. Sophia Marshall Every Sunday, you spend time in this little corner and are eager to get moving but are unsure how to begin or financial constraints prevent you from joining a gym or exercise group. Here are small steps to getting more exercise without it feeling like a chore and there is no price tag: 1) Walk your dog every day. Start at a normal walking pace then gradually increase to a brisk-walk/ jog if possible. Both of you will enjoy these trips. 2) Walk the stairs rather than taking the elevator/escalator. This is particularly applicable to persons working in buildings where these are installed. 3) Dance to your favourite music while doing your weekend chores. Mopping and sweeping to calypso is great fun and fantastic cardio! 4) Go hiking with a group. It's a fantastic way to see the beauty of Barbados and to form new friendships. 5) Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk into the building. Don't sit in the car at the space closest to the entrance, grumbling that the next driver is taking too long to come out! 6) Do volunteer work for a good cause. The elderly person down the road would appreciate having the bush removed from around his/her home. Another option is giving assistance to any of the Church's programs (hint hint). 7) Go for a swim or just have fun in the water. Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise and is very therapeutic. Whatever you do, just have fun!
