When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him," God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what person knows a man's thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.!

At that time Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings:

!

Within the context of the liturgical year the significance of Sunday is uniquely important. Sunday has become for us the foundation of the entire structure of the rhythm of the christian life.

!

Liturgical theologians suggest that by the end of the first century the notion of the Lord’s Day had captured the religious sensibility of the majority of Christians as the day of the Lord’s resurrection and that by the fourth century Sunday was officially recognized by the Roman state.

!

The tremendous link between Sunday and the day of the resurrection became even more obvious as christians would meet early on the first day of the week for the breaking of bread and prayers.

!

There are predominant themes that go hand in hand with Sunday worship, such as thanksgiving, hence the principal service is called Eucharist, from a Greek word meaning to give thanks.

!

The elements of joy, victory, praise and triumph are also located within the context of the Sunday Mass.

!

The liturgy of the Sunday mass is meant to be bright, not rushed because of the familiarity; but we use that familiarity to help us to engage the signs and symbols of our worship.

!

We see lights, movement and colorful vestments as we seek to offer what professor Kevin Irwin refers to as the best we can do on this side of heaven.

!

We utilise other senses, such as hearing the sounds of the bells.

!

When ever we hear the bells in the sanctuary it is a reminder to look towards the altar so as to capture the drama as we ritualise the events surrounding our salvation.

!

We shake hands and greet each other as we share the peace with one another, as a sign that we are in harmony with fellow worshippers and the entire world.

!

As we go through the challenges of each week especially at this time, let us allow the Sunday and the weekday Mass to remind us that we are all ministers and that we are all to be actively engaged in ministry.

!

There are some among us who have lost their jobs, some have lost loved ones. Our worship must be the reminder that there is a joy that loss cannot take away and that hope is built into the meaningfulness of our worship.

!

Let us worship Sunday by Sunday and encourage those in our households to worship the God of heaven and earth in the celebration of the Holy Mass.

DIOCESAN SERVICE

There will be a Diocesan Service on Sunday 16th February at 10:00 a.m. in the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. It will take the form of the Holy Mass. His Grace the Archbishop invites and encourages us all to attend. Please take your hymn book and Book of Common Prayer.

CONFIRMATION CLASS 2014 The Confirmation Class for 2014 started yesterday Saturday, February 8. The class runs each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. until November. Registration forms are available.

There are separate classes for adults and children.

YOUTH GROUP The members of the Youth Group will be volunteering their services at the charity concert Love, Poetry & Song which will be held on Saturday, February 15th at Ilaro Court. The food items and toiletries collected at this event will be donated to the HIV Foodbank and the BPW Safe House for victims of domestic abuse. Members of the St. David's Parish and surrounding communities who are between the ages of 13 and 30 are invited to join the group which meets every other Saturday in the church hall.

10TH ANNIVERSARY Today the Silver Stars celebrate their tenth Anniversary and a commemorative plaque will be given to the Church to mark the occasion and in memory of Mrs. Muriel Beckles-Worrell the founder of the group.

!

HEALTH GUILD WALK On Saturday, February 22, the walk starts at 5:30 a.m. from St. David, on to Edgerton, Watt’s Village, Frere Pilgrim, Pilgrim Yard, Cox Road, back to St. David.

!
