!THE COLLECT

8:30 a.m.

O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed His glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of His countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into His likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

! THE FIRST READING: !READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book of Exodus chapter 24 beginning at the 12th verse

!

The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tables of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction." Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days; and on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. And Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. AndMoses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. Reader: ALL:

Psalm 99 Dominus regnavit

1.The Lord is King; let the people tremble; * he is enthroned upon the Cherubim; let the earth shake. 2.The Lord is great in Zion;* he is high above all peoples. 3.Let them confess his name, which is great and awesome;* he is the Holy One. 4."O mighty King, lover of justice, you have established
equity; * you have executed justice and righteousness in
Jacob. 5.Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and fall down before his footstool; * he is the Holy One. 6.Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among
those who call upon his name, * they called upon the Lord, and he answered them. 7.He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; * they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.

!

8."O Lord our God, you answered them indeed;* you were a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds." 9.Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and worship him upon his holy hill; *

Glory to the Father, and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now* and shall be forever. Amen.

!! THE EPISTLE

A Reading from the Word of God written in the Letter to the Philippians chapter 3 beginning at the 7th verse.

!Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you And also with you.

!

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli'jah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli'jah." He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled with awe. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and have no fear." And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead." The Gospel of Christ. Praise to Christ our Lord. !6

From the Rector’s Notebook

!Greetings: !

Our Patronal Festival ends this weekend and what a wonderful week it was indeed. The sermons, the participation, the singing all made for a fantastic time of renewal.

!

The opportunity for worship was shared by those who came to visit us from across the Diocese and we deeply appreciate the sacrifice they made to be with us as we observed our Feast of title celebration.

!

A special word of thanks goes out to the organist and choir, the Altar Servers and the Ushers whose constant presence ensured that all went well.

!

The observance ends this evening with the Choirs and Servers in special attendance.

!

Don’t just stay at home and know that this is happening! Make the effort: Come! Share! Join in the worship! Let us offer to God the best that we can.

!

These annual festivals are indeed good for our souls, they give us the impetus to press on even against the odds. We gain fresh understanding as we listen to the messages from God almighty brought by his servants, the priests.

!

Indeed we are all servants of the living God, called upon to take God’s message of salvation to the entire world.

!

We begin with those within our reach, the members of our families where we seek to be shining

!7

examples as stewards of the mysteries of God. We then gain boldness to proclaim God’s message to those in our respective workplaces, quietly enabling persons to open their hearts to Christ.

!

The world in which we live and our present Barbados needs the message that we bring. We have always to ensure that we transform the world; rather than conforming to it.

!

It was the Apostle Paul who advised the Christians at Rome Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)

!

We pray that God almighty will continue to drop his dew of quietness upon us, for as I was saying last week in the sermon, so often we hear adversarial and combative tones and if we are not careful those tones can find place in the Body of Christ.

!

The orderliness of worship is not an end in itself; but helps us in society to think clearly and rationally and in the best of times and in the worst of times to be aglow with the spirit and to serve the Lord. (Romans 12:11)

!

We thank God for the past week and as we prepare to enter the Lenten season we pray that God will show us the way through the penitential season to the celebration of the Paschal Mystery.

!Your friend and priest, !Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector

HEALTH CORNER! DID YOU KNOW?! A single exercise session should include the following phases:! • Warm-up: A minimum of 5 to 10 minutes of low to moderate intensity cardiovascular and muscular endurance activities •

Stretching: At least 10 minutes of stretching exercises performed after warm-up or cool-down phase

Conditioning or sports-related exercise: 20 to 60 minutes of aerobic, resistance and/or sport activities

Cool-down: At least 5 to 10 minutes of low to moderate intensity cardiovascular and muscular endurance activities

Why is warm –up important?! It allows the body to prepare for the demands of the conditioning or sports phase of the exercise program. It is designed to increase body temperature and reduce the potential for after-exercise muscle soreness.

!Why is cool-down important?!

This phase allows for the gradual recovery of heart rate, blood pressure and removal of metabolic end products from the muscles used during the more intense conditioning phase.
