"So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way; he shall die in his iniquity, but you will have saved your life. "And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: `Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we waste away because of them; how then can we live?' THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Letter to the Romans Chapter 12 beginning at the 9th verse Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. At that time Jesus said: "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. FROM THE RECTOR’S NOTEBOOK Greetings: Our parish fundraiser “An Evening of Enchanting Music” came off very well. The music was excellent and the audience was engaged and appreciative. Kudos to the chairman and members of the organizing team who all put in their individual 100% effort to ensure that it was successful. Parish Fundraising has always been a challenge for many if not all of our congregations. Often persons have relied on the annual fair and perhaps a luncheon or supper in order to boost parish finances. David M. Odom in a blog article posted online by the Faith and Leadership Homepage stated that in an era of tight budgets, we will hear more and more institutions of all types conversing regarding the need to raise funds.

There is of course a cost to ministry and churches in essence are not money generators and must depend on the stewardship of members, open collection, charitable donations and of course fundraisers. It must be stated of course that fundraising especially in the parish context is not the work of one person. Odom cites the Chronicle of Philanthropy which says that fundraising is a team sport and that the “high-performing” organisations don’t consider fundraising as the work of an individual but the work of the entire organisation. All members of the parish must be involved in this effort as we press forward. So often we hear persons make the comment that they are not good at fund raising which is understood because we all possess our various skills; that does not imply however that we cannot lend a hand in the various efforts. We must have the confidence that comes from God almighty that he will bless the efforts that we undertake in his name and that he will keep us faithful to the task at hand. Some of our undertakings over the past year were new, a luncheon at Sunbury, a Golf tournament and the Concert held recently. We look forward to the upcoming Parish Bazaar. Support from our sponsors help tremendously; but we need more of the calm and confident commitment from members of our congregation as we seek to raise funds for our ongoing ministry. On Sunday, September, the bus ride leaves the car park at 11:00 a.m. for Bathsheba. One bus will leave the Chapel of St. Basil at the same time. Health Corner RECIPE FOR BREADFRUIT MUFFINS Last week we made our breadfruit flour, now let's use it to make delicious muffins:

Ingredients

1/4 cup melted shortening 1 egg 1 cup flour 1/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup breadfruit flour

Directions: Heat oven to 400째F Grease muffin tin. Break egg into bowl and beat slightly with fork. Stir in melted shortening and milk. Sift together flour and baking powder, sugar, salt and then add to egg mixture. Stir just enough to moisten dry ingredients (the batter should be lumpy). Fill muffin tins (2/3rds) full. Bake for about 15-20 minutes (until edges pull away from tin).
