THE COLLECT Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the First Book of the Kings Chapter 19 beginning at the 15th verse.
The LORD said to Elijah, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, you shall anoint Haz'ael to be king over Syria; and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel; and Eli'sha the son of Shaphat of A'bel-meho'lah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place. So he departed from there, and found Eli'sha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Eli'jah passed by him and cast his mantle upon him. And he left the oxen, and ran after Eli'jah, and said, "Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again; for what have I done to you?" And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the

oxen, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Eli'jah, and ministered to him. Reader: ALL:

PSALM 16
1.
Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you;* I have said to the Lord, "You are my Lord, my good above all other."
2.
All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land,* upon those who are noble among the people.
3.
But those who run after other gods* shall have their troubles multiplied.
4.
Their libations of blood I will not offer, * nor take the names of their gods upon my lips.
5.
O Lord, you are my portion and my cup;* it is you who uphold my lot.
6.
My boundaries enclose a pleasant land;* indeed, I have a goodly heritage.
7.
I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel;" my heart teaches me, night after night.
8.
I have set the Lord always before me;* because he is at my right hand I shall not fall.
9.
My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices;* my body also shall rest in hope.
10.
For you will not abandon me to the grave, * nor let your holy one see the Pit.
11. You will show me the path of life; * in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Letter to the Galatians Chapter 5 beginning at the 1st verse For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." But if you bite and devour one another take heed that you are not consumed by one another. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Reader: ALL:

THE HOLY GOSPEL Gospeller: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time When the days drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him; but the people would not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?" But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village. As they were going along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head." To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." But he said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home." Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook  Greetings:
On Monday morning we launched out to fix what we first considered to be a leak in the guttering that was bringing water into the area near the organ. Further examination revealed that much of the wood in the roof and ceiling was rotten and needed to be replaced immediately. This kind of occurrence often happens to be the case whenever we seek to repair even around our homes. Under the watchful eye of the Church Wardens William Jones and Tony Kirton as well as George Holder, the Chairman of the Building Committee and having informed the Archdeacon, the Venerable Eric Lynch, we set about the process of replacing the roof and ceiling over the choir room. Indeed the workmen must be congratulated for their understanding of what needs to be done to retain the architectural structure of this historic building and are ensuring that all of the original features are being kept as we continue this repair and replacement. As a Diocese we have inherited buildings that are both aged and aging and it takes a tremendous effort to maintain them. Our sacred buildings are part of our treasure of this island as places in which persons come to worship week by week and where we receive the assurance of God’s presence in the blessed sacrament of Holy Communion and the other means by which God gives us his grace. 7
From Old Testament times persons have sought to locate God in sacred space. It was in the desire of King David to build a temple; however it was left to his son Solomon to do so, although it was David who drew the plans. Much of First Kings (Chapters 5-8) and 2 Chronicles (Chapters 1-7) give us great detail about the construction of the Temple, the priesthood and the temple services. Our church building is important to us and often visitors and regular worshippers comment on the way in which we vigilantly see that it is well maintained. This of course is the responsibility of all of us. We realise of course that while the fabric of our building will need our financial and other resources, the fabric of our lives as christians will require the daily recitation of Morning and Evening Prayer and frequent recourse to the sacrament in order that we are built into the true Body of Christ. As we work to repair that section of the church roof and ceiling, let us remember that this is the House of Prayer and this project deserves our fullest cooperation and support. May God give us his blessing as we continue in His Service. Your friend and priest, Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector 8
Bishops’ on Homosexuality (Final Section) While we recognize that the role of the Church and the State are not the same, the Church’s task being distinctly different from the State, the Church’s mandate is informed by pastoral and doctrinal concerns and in drawing the attention of the faithful to the source and purpose of marriage, and in solemnizing such unions. The governments have the responsibility of providing the kind of legal framework for protecting, but not defining, this most basic social institution on which the stability of society, and the socialization of its members rest, as well as protecting the members of such unions against abuse and injustice. We are conscious of the fact that our political leaders within our Caribbean region are being subjected to pressures from nations and institutions from outside of our region. Frequently they are pressured to conform to the changes being undertaken in their redefinition of human sexuality and same-sex unions, under threat of economic sanctions and the loss of humanitarian aid. We urge our leaders of government and of civil society, as well as the people of our nations, to resist any attempt to compromise our cultural and religious principles regarding these matters. The dangling of a carrot of economic assistance to faltering economies should be seen for what it is worth and should be resisted by people and government alike. The threat and use of economic sanctions are not new experiences for us, neither is the claim to a superior morality convincing for peoples who have known the experience of chattel slavery in our past. While claiming to invoke human rights as the basis for such imposition, we submit that the same principle must allow us the right to affirm our cultural and religious convictions regarding our definitions of that most basic of social institutions, marriage.
