And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon." But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

FROM THE RECTOR’S NOTEBOOK Greetings: As we continue to pray for Christians in Iraq we must note that the conflict is not a Muslim-Christian issue.

In fact many Muslims across the world have condemned the hateful acts towards the Christians who have had a presence in Iraq certainly from the the 1st century.

To understand and appreciate Iraqi Christianity, one can easily go back to the crucifixion/resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. According to tradition the Christian community took root there after the Apostle Thomas headed east in the year 35AD. Many of the Christians in that geographical region are members of the The Eastern-rite Church - the Chaldeans who have a traditional liturgical language, Syriac - a linguistic descendant of Aramaic, the language thought by most scholars to have been spoken by Jesus and his disciples.

Perhaps the best known Iraqi Chaldean is Saddam Hussein's former deputy prime minister, Tariq Aziz.

The current Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev’d Justin Welby, when asked about the implications for Muslim - Christian relations in the midst of this crises responded by saying “. . . what we mustn’t do in blanket terms is condemn all Muslims as though they were all members of this group, because very, very clearly the overwhelming, enormous majority of them have no sympathy with what is going on at all.”

Archbishop Welby also had stated that with the world’s attention on the plight of those in Iraq, we must not forget that this is part of an evil

pattern around the world where Christians and other religious minorities are being killed and persecuted for their faith.

According to a May 2014 article in Christianity Today, The Reverend Canon Andrew White, an Anglican priest in Bagdad reports that there used to be 1.5 million Christians in Iraq. Now there are 260,000 and that number is decreasing.

Archbishop Welby urges that we continue to cry to God for peace, justice and security throughout the world and for those suffering such appalling treatment in Iraq.

HEALTH GUILD

Members are reminded of the meeting TODAY at 5:00 p.m. in the Church hall. The walk leaves the Church yard on Saturday, August 30 at 5:30 a.m., goes down to the Lime Building (BET), up to the overpass, across the overpass, down tthrough Upton yard and back to St. David.

Health Corner MULTI-PURPOSE VINEGAR Vinegar is safe and can be used as an alternative to many cleaners. The vinegar that you buy in the supermarket contains 5% acetic acid, which has antimicrobial properties . In another words, vinegar can act as a disinfectant. Here are a few ways that you can use vinegar in your daily chores: Reduce dust and grease Concerned about those dirty ceiling fan blades; then wipe them with white distilled vinegar. This helps to reduce the build up of dust and grease.

Give a shine Add one-half cup of vinegar to one gallon of water and mop floors to give them a shine.

Toilet bowl cleaner Stains can be removed from the toilet by adding 3 cups of vinegar, leaving it for 30 mins or more before brushing vigorously and then flushing.

Deodorises the refrigerator Place 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in a glass and put it in the refrigerator. This removes any smells within 2 days.

Cleaning the refrigerator Mix equal amounts of white distilled vinegar and water; this is perfect for cleaning the refrigerator.

Annoying ants Regular wiping of counter tops and floors with vinegar can get rid of your ant problem.
