Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

!! THE FIRST READING: !READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book

of the Prophet Isaiah Chapter 25 beginning at the 1st verse

O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. For thou hast made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the palace of aliens is a city no more, it will never be rebuilt. Therefore strong peoples will glorify thee; cities of ruthless nations will fear thee. For thou hast been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the blast of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall, like heat in a dry place. Thou dost subdue the noise of the aliens; as heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is stilled. On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wine on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wine on the lees well refined. And he will destroy on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death for ever, and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth; for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, "Lo, this is our God;

PSALM 23 Dominus regit me.!

1.The Lord is my shepherd; * I shall not be in want. ! 2.He makes me lie down in green pastures* and leads me
beside still waters. ! 3.He revives my soul * and guides me along right pathways for
his name's sake. ! 4.Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
shall fear no evil;* for you are with me; your rod and your
staff, they comfort me. ! 5.You spread a table before me in the presence of those who
trouble me; * you have anointed my head with oil, and my
cup is running over. ! 6.Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days
of my life, * and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. !

!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit;!

! As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen! !! !THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Letter to the Philippians Chapter 4 beginning at the 4th verse

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me; you were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I complain of want; for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; in any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading. Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you.

!

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, `Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.' But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, !5

treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, `The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.' And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; and he said to him, `Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, `Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.' For many are called, but few are chosen." The Gospel of Christ. Praise to Christ our Lord.

!! FROM THE RECTOR’S NOTEBOOK ! Greetings:

There are times when it is necessary to take a look at the Christian family album of saints and martyrs.

!

In particular we take a look at those who set about ordering what has come down to us as faith in the Anglican Church, with the Book of Common Prayer, and Bible readings in the vernacular.

!

These symbols of Anglicanism along with the accepted teaching of the church had their origins in a very violent past within the realm of England and we will remember this on Thursday of this week (October 16) when the church calls to mind the !6

work and witness of the Oxford Martyrs Latimer, Ridley and Cranmer.

!

Gordon Mursell in his book English Spirituality from earliest times to 1700 tells us that Hugh Latimer was an active diocesan bishop, a reformer and scholar in addition to being a vigorous definer of the poor in an age of grasping landlords.

!

Latimer had followed Thomas Cranmer in preaching Roman Catholic doctrines.

!

Nicholas Ridley became an adherent of the reform of the English church while a student at Cambridge. He was a friend of Archbishop Cranmer and became private chaplain first to Cranmer and then to King Henry.

!

Under the brief reign of Edward, he became bishop of Rochester, and was part of the committee that drew up the first English Book of Common Prayer. When Mary came to the throne, he was arrested.

!

We cannot speak of anglicanism without mentioning the name of Thomas Cranmer. Archbishop Cranmer was the chief architect of the Book of common Prayer in 1545. He later revised it in 1552.

!

The Book of Common Prayer with its ordering of Morning and Evening Prayer, the setting out of the Holy Communion Service and the occasional services of matrimony, the visitation of the sick and the christian burial rite remans a primer in anglicanism. !7

!

These three gentlemen were executed during the reign of Queen Mary, who made every attempt to link the English and Roman Churches.

!

In our time the dialogue between the two bodies shows encouraging signs as the two institutions hold dialogue as ecumenical partners.

!

The spiritual and theological legacy of Latimer, Ridley and Cranmer remain with us as we thank God for the tradition of faith and worship that they have passed on to us.

!

Make we take up that candle that they have left and seek to allow the light of Christ to shine boldly and convincingly within us as we pass on to others that which we ourselves have received.

! Your friend and priest, !

Noel A. Burke, MA,(The Rev’d Canon) Rector

Health Corner

!

!

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of women each year. It is diagnosed in men as well but is a rare disease that occurs in less than 1% of all breast cancer cases.

During the month of October, we will join the rest of the world and focus on breast cancer awareness. Most of us, if not all, have had the awful experience of watching a loved one battle this horrific disease. However, these days with early detection and treatment, most people continue a normal life. Let’s examine breast cancer a little closer:

!

What is breast cancer?! Normally the healthy cells in our bodies take over as old ones die. This process is carried out in an orderly fashion with the genes in each cell holding responsibility for regulating the growth of cells and keeping them healthy.

!

However sometimes abnormal changes occur and the changed cell (mutated) cell keeps reproducing cells like it and this may result in a tumour. A tumour is classified as benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous, potential to be dangerous). Breast cancer refers to a malignant tumour that has developed from cells in the breast.
