THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the book of Joel Chapter 2 beginning at the 23rd verse.
O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in the LORD your God; for he has given the early rain for your vindication, he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the later rain, as before. The threshing floors shall be full of grain, the vats shall overflow with wine and oil. I will repay you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent against you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I, the LORD, am your God and there is no other. And my people shall never again be put to shame. Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit. I will show portents in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall !3
be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. Then everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD calls. Reader: ALL:
Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God.

THE EPISTLE READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the Second letter of Paul to Timothy Chapter 4 beginning at the 6th verse.
As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them! But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Reader: ALL:
Here ends the Reading Thanks be to God
RESPONSE TO HAITI The Archbishop is requesting that congregations take a special collection on Sunday October, 30 for the people of Haiti. The funds collected will be sent to the Bishop of Haiti, The Rt. Rev'd Jean Duracin.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: Our Annual Parish Family Luncheon is being held today at Sunbury Plantation House, St. Philip. This again is one of the fund raisers for this year in order to help us as a parish to meet our commitments and to offer effective and appropriate ministries here in the parish. We live in an age in which these events can go far in assisting organisations such as ours to boost the stewardship, donations and other givings that the church may receive on an annual or ad hoc basis. There are certain aspects to parish fund raising events that we always ensure. Firstly and very importantly, events are aways priced so that there are not a burden on those who would want to attend. Added to that to price is always below the market value. For the secular world this may not make financial sense; but in the church it is part of the moral order. Secondly there is always that watchful eye, that persons are receiving value for money. It is important and incumbent upon us to participate in these events in order to ensure that we reach our stated goals by first of all purchasing a ticket and at least selling a ticket to a relative or friend. Our parish fund raising committee always has a listening and empathetic ear in case persons seek

to express any shortcoming that they may have experienced. Let us be quick to add that the emphasis of the church is not on fund raising; but on building up the Kingdom of God and seeking to transform the society in which we live. Occasions such as our family luncheon however; provide wonderful opportunities for us to work together. We can get to know other members of the congregation as we collaborate both towards and at the event. Some of the most awesome examples in the social life of our Lord are expressed when he participated in meal functions in the Gospel. Throughout history families would gather around the table for feasting and fellowship. Let us come today and bring our families, friends, colleagues and others to sit together and share a meal, a conversation, have fun and enjoy ourselves at the Annual Parish Luncheon, and who knows, you may take home one of the wonderful door prizes. May God almighty bless and prosper our efforts. Your friend and priest, Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector

HEALTH CORNER BY: DR. SOPHIA MARSHALL
Last week we took a brief look at Stage I & 2 of breast cancer, here is a look at Stage 3 & 4: Stage 3 is divided into subcategories known as 3A, 3B, and 3C. •
Stage 3A – no tumour is found in the breast or it is under 5cm and has spread to the lymph nodes in the armpit (which are clumped together) or it is bigger than 5cm and has spread to the lymph nodes.
•
Stage 3B – the cancer has spread to tissue near the breast and may be attached to skin or muscle. There are usually cancer cells in the lymph nodes in the armpit.
Stage 3C – the cancer has spread to 10 or more lymph nodes in the armpit, or to lymph nodes below the breastbone, near the neck or under the collarbone. Sometimes stage 3 breast cancer is called locally advanced breast cancer. •
Stage 4 The cancer has spread to other parts of the body such as the bones, liver or lungs. This is called secondary or metastatic breast cancer. American Cancer Society recommendations for early breast cancer detection
