THE COLLECT O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in 1st Kings Chapter 17 beginning at the 8th verse.
Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.” Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth. She went and did as Elijah said, !3
so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.

Psalm 146
Lauda, anima mea
1. Hallelujah! Praise the LORD, O my soul! * I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 2. Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of earth, * for there is no help in them. 3. When they breathe their last, they return to earth, * and in that day their thoughts perish. 4. Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help! * whose hope is in the LORD their God; 5. Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; * who keeps his promise for ever; 6. Who gives justice to those who are oppressed, * and food to those who hunger. 7. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind; * the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; 8. The LORD loves the righteous; the LORD cares for the stranger; * he sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. !4
9. The LORD shall reign for ever, * your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Hallelujah! V. Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; R. As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen
THE EPISTLE READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in Paul’s Letter to the Galatians Chapter 1 beginning at the11th verse.
For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. You have heard, no doubt, of my earlier life in Judaism. I was violently persecuting the church of God and was trying to destroy it. I advanced in Judaism beyond many among my people of the same age, for I was far more zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. But when God, who had set me apart before I was born and called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with any human being, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were already apostles before me, but I went away at once into Arabia, and afterwards I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and stayed with him fifteen days; but I did not see any other apostle except James the Lord's brother. In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie! Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia, and I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea that are in Christ; they only heard it said, "The one who formerly was persecuting us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy. And they glorified God because of me.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. Soon afterwards he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother's only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town. When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep.” Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, rise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has risen among us!" and "God has looked favorably on his people!” This word about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding country. The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: Since the end of the Easter season a few weeks ago, persons have been indicating that they will be absent from Mass because of summer travel. Summer time is very exciting. Very soon our children and their teachers, after the nine months of the academic year, will get to take some time away from the classroom for rest, recreation and renewal. Travel allows us a chance to experience new cultures and peoples and to observe the way in which they go about their lives. Vacation also gives us a break from our daily or weekly round of duties and tasks; but it is not however a break from attendance at Holy Mass. There is one duty we must never forget and that is our duty towards God. If we may recall the catechism from the Book of Common Prayer 1662 which says among other things that our duty towards God is:to worship him, to give him thanks, to put my whole trust in him, to call upon him, to honour his holy Name and his Word, and to serve him truly all the days of my life. Even prior to this, the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews warns those who would have received that letter not to forsake the gathering (Hebrews 10:25). We are never on vacation from our weekly obligation to make our communion with the risen !7
Lord and so we must make it our business to locate a nearby place of worship in order that we can make our communion. These days with Apple and Google maps it is very easy to find restaurants and places of historic and architectural interests, museums and libraries. It is also rather easy to locate cathedrals and neighborhood churches and even to connect with the parish priest before arrival. There are times when persons are traveling to Barbados that I am contacted either directly- by email or phone call, or via one of the social media platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn as they express interest in attending Mass here with their families. As we travel for summer this year, let share in the experience of our Lord by attending Mass and worshipping with a congregation. May we always be giving thanks to God in the Holy Eucharist, while praying for the local congregation when we are away from the parish. Your friend and priest, Noel A. HEALTH CORNER By Dr. Sophia Marshall Jaheim: Excuse me Sir, but do you mind not smoking near us? My teacher said not to let anyone smoke cigarettes near us because secondhand smoke is harmful. Mr. Warner: Little boy, there is no need to worry about my smoking! It’s only a danger to me not you. Jaheim: Actually Sir, that is not true. It’s well documented that between 1964 and 2014, 2.5 million adult non-smokers died because they breathed secondhand smoke. Mr. Warner: Son, be quiet, you don’t know what you’re talking. Jaheim: Exactly I do, my science teacher told us that secondhand smoke contains over 7000 chemicals of which approximately 70 may cause cancer and hundreds are toxic. In essence, non-smokers who inhale secondhand smoke are exposed to many of the same cancercausing substances and poisons as smokers. Mr. Warner: 7000 chemicals, really now! Seems like an exaggeration to me. What else did this teacher say? Jaheim: Well since you asked! Secondhand smoke can cause a number of health risks in adults including coronary heart disease, stroke and lung cancer. Breathing secondhand smoke can increase the risk of suffering a heart attack by having immediate adverse effects on your blood and blood vessels. Non-smokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke daily increase their risk of developing lung cancer by 20–30%. Mr. Warner: I wasn’t aware of any of this and it’s fascinating that you remembered all that your teacher told you. Please, tell me more. Jaheim: Well, I soon have to go but she also said that children who are exposed to secondhand smoke can have serious health problems such as bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections and asthma attacks. In fact, secondhand smoke increases the risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) by interfering with the brain’s regulation of infants' breathing. Mr. Warner: SIDS? That’s sudden and unexplained death of an infant in its first year of life. I have read about that. Well young man, you have certainly enlightened me about the dangers of secondhand smoke. I have made the choice to smoke but I will be more mindful of the nonsmokers in my life. Thank you and continue to listen to your teacher.
