THE COLLECT O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you; and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book of Deuteronomy Chapter 30 beginning at the 9th verse.
Moses said, “The LORD your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground; for the LORD will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. "For this commandment which I command you this day is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, `Who will go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, `Who will go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.

PSALM 25: 3-9
3.
Show me your ways, O Lord,* and teach me your paths.
4.
Lead me in your truth and teach me, * for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long.
5.
Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, * for they are from everlasting .
6.
Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; * remember me according to your love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord.
7.
Gracious and upright is the Lord; * therefore he teaches sinners in his way.
8.
He guides the humble in doing right* and teaches his way to the lowly .
9.
All the paths of the Lord are love and faithfulness * to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen

THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Letter to the Colossians Chapter 1 beginning at the 1st verse Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ at Colos'sae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing -- so among yourselves, from the day you heard and understood the grace of God in truth, as you learned it from Ep'aphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf and has made known to us your love in the Spirit. And so, from the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, to lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Reader: ALL:

THE HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 10:25-37 Gospeller: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, 5
and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live." But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, `Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." Gospeller: ALL:

From the Rector’s Notebook It is summer holiday time again, all of our students are on holiday. Some may be taking summer school in order to catch up on courses or so that they may complete their studies earlier. One may recall the summer holidays of one’s school days with the chance to go daily to the sea, play cricket, football, read comic books and generally lounge with friends. The recreation and rest is a time for a change in routine and gives us opportunities to try out some of the awesome ideas or catch up on reading that we never had the chance to do because of work or school. There is the chance for example to read novels, and scholarly or professional articles that eluded us over the past months. The beauty now is that obtaining books is so easy. There is the library of course and the ubiquitous tablet and e-reader that allows us to purchase and access books in seconds literally. We may also use the slow easy days of summer spiritually. We are often so busy that our spiritual devotion can suffer. We now have an opportunity to read about the lives of the saints or to obtain some other spiritual text. Summer has become a time for travel. Basically 7
every Sunday since the month of May, members whisper to me that they are taking off for a while on vacations overseas. Overseas trips help us to link up with relatives and friends, along with having a change in scenery. For those who like to shop there is that opportunity to catch whatever bargains may be available. Indeed there are those who take off for the seaside locally or capitalise on the stay-cations offered by some of our hotels and guesthouses. Here in the St. David’s Parish we will be offering the two week summer day camp for our young people. This provides a wonderful opportunity for our children to be involved in healthy and wholesome activity. Once more I must tip my biretta to those persons who sacrifice their time as counsellors and facilitators at our annual camp. May God give us grace to use our time well during the summer holidays. Your friend and priest Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector 8
A Prayer for Priests
Almighty God give us priests Almighty God, give us priests: to establish the honour of your holy name; to offer the holy sacrifice of the altar; to give us Jesus in the holy sacrament; to proclaim the faith of Jesus; to baptise and to teach the young; to tend your sheep; to seek the lost; to give pardon to the penitent sinner to bless our homes; to pray for the afflicted; to comfort mourners; to strengthen us in our last hour; to commend our souls; Almighty God, give us priests! (Additional Curates Society) Let us pray that the Kingdom of Christ may live in our hearts and come to our world. Our Father………..
