THE COLLECT Almighty God whose blessed apostles Peter and Paul glorified you by their martyrdom: Grant that your Church, instructed by their teaching and example, and knit together in unity by your Spirit, may ever stand firm upon the one foundation, which is Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

!THE FIRST READING: !READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book of Ezekiel Chapter 34 beginning at the 11th verse

"For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock when some of his sheep have been scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the fountains, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them with good pasture, and upon the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on fat pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord GOD. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the crippled, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will watch over; I will feed them in justice. Reader: Here ends the Reading. ALL: Thanks be to God.

PSALM 87!

1.On the holy mountain stands the city he has founded; * the Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of
Jacob. ! ! 2. !Glorious things are spoken of you, * O city of our God. ! 3.I count Egypt and Babylon among those who know me;* behold Philistia, Tyre, and Ethiopia: in Zion were they born. ! 4.Of Zion it shall be said, "Everyone was born in her, * and the Most High himself shall sustain her." ! 5.The Lord will record as he enrolls the peoples, * "These also were born there." ! 6.The singers and the dancers will say, * "All my fresh springs
 are in you." !

!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit;! ! As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen

THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Second Letter to Timothy Chapter 4 beginning at the 1st verse I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry. For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. Reader: ALL:

Here ends the Reading. Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you.

!

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Glory to Christ our Saviour.

!

At that time when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." A second time he said to him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you 5!

know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go." (This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.) And after this he said to him, "Follow me."

The Gospel of Christ. Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings:

!

Today (June 29) we celebrate the Feast Day of Ss Peter and Paul. Two stalwarts of the New Testament Church.

!

St. Peter would stand out among the disciples of Jesus of Nazareth. From earliest times he assumed a leadership role and would often be with Jesus on very special occasions. (Matthew 9:18-26; Mark 5:21-43; (Matthew 17:1-27)

!

In his life he wanted nothing more than to imitate Jesus and this is depicted in the stories surrounding his interaction with Jesus and in responses to queries and challenges put by Jesus. (Matthew 14:19; Matthew 16:16, Mark 8:27-30)

!

It was on one of those challenging occasions when he would deny that he knew Jesus. (Luke 22: 54-62). He would nevertheless be seen in the Acts of the Apostles to be the one to lead the charge for Christ, delivering the first sermon of the newly emerging christian church on the Feast of Pentecost. (Acts 2:14-41)

!

The route of St. Paul to the risen and ascended Christ was much more varied.

!6

!

As Paul would testify as one untimely born he would meet Christ out of the abundance of his faith and his own spiritual and intellectual search for wisdom and understanding. (1 Corinthians 15:8)

!

St. Paul firstly persecuted the church and would go on to be one of its most eloquent champions.

!

St. Paul would take the Gospel of Christ beyond its Jewish foundation and establish the way of Christ among Greek speaking persons who would not have been familiar with Jewish religion and customs.

!

There is much about his inner thoughts in the canonical Epistles of the New Testament In his Epistles, St. Paul shows himself to be a profound religious thinker who had a formative influence in the development of Christianity.

!

The Apostles Paul and Peter though great heroes of the faith yet manifest their own weakness as they struggled like the rest of us through trial, pain and loss to be representative of that true humanity created in the image of Christ.

!

We too must strive to imitate Christ, that is what being a christian is all about to be able to look beyond the temporalities of this world to the things that endure.

!

May God’s blessing rest upon as we follow the wonderful examples of these great Apostles and use our gifts and skills in seeking to encourage others to follow Christ.

Health corner!

WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAU It is absolutely frustrating to reach a plateau when trying to lose weight! You have been watching your diet, exercising and doing all the right things but you seemed stuck at the same point. Don’t give up, relax, step back and let’s look at the situation. Many times, only small changes are needed to get you shedding pounds again. Here are a few suggestions:

!

(1) Increase your cardio Instead of briskly walking 6 laps, try 7 or add an extra day of cardio workout. This may burn the extra calories that you need to lose some more body fat.

!

(2) Vary the intensity of your workouts When we speak of intensity, we refer to how hard a person works to do the activity. If you vary the intensity of your workout during the week, you are more likely to burn fat more efficiently.

!

Moderate intensity: You're working hard enough to raise your heart rate and break into a sweat. You're working at a moderate intensity if you're able to talk but unable to sing the words to a song.

!

Vigorous Intensity: You are breathing rapidly and only able to speak in short phrases. Your heart rate is substantially increased and you are likely to be sweating.

! !

For weight loss, the more intense your exercise, or the longer you exercise, the more calories you burn. (3)

Try new exercises

Vary your workouts by introducing completely new exercises or making small changes to your current movements. (4)

!

Get a certified Personal Trainer

If you can afford it, seek professional help from a certified personal trainer. A Personal Trainer helps clients achieve their fitness and health goals through motivating and educating them.
