THE FIRST READING: READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the book Exodus Chapter 34 beginning at the 29th verse.
Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterwards all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Reader: ALL: Psalm 99

THE EPISTLE READER:
A Reading from the Word of God written in the 2nd book of Peter Chapter 1 beginning at the 13th verse.
Peter said, I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to refresh your memory, since I know that my death will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honour and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’ We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. Reader: ALL:

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah’—not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’ When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord

From The Rector’s Notebook Greetings: Firstly let me thank my associate, the Dean Emeritus, The Very Rev’d William G. St. C Dixon, CBE for accepting responsibility as Priestin-Charge of the parish during my annual holiday in the month of July Appreciation is also expressed to Father Clifford Hall who rendered assistance, Mrs. Ingred Durant for editing the parish bulletin and to the Wardens, the Lay Ministers of the Eucharist and all others who made sure that all went smoothly. Let me at this time convey my deepest condolences to those who would have lost loved ones and give the assurance of my prayerful support. There are often few words that can ease the pain and grief of loss; however I would like to encourage you with this passage from sacred scripture But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-14 Though we miss our loved ones departed; yet we commit them into the arms of God almighty, remembering their faithfulness and service while they were here with us.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord. The Transfiguration is an event reported in the Synoptic Gospels, (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36) when Jesus takes his disciples on a mountain to pray. There is also mention made of this in the Second Epistle of Peter. Our observance replaces the collect and the proper readings for today as the Transfiguration is a Feast of our Lord. According to the Book of Common Prayer (CPWI), while it is a fixed feast day occurring on August 6, so long as it falls on a Sunday, it takes precedence over the normal cycle of readings and completely replaces them. The Transfiguration of our Lord in the presence of his disciples has implications for our faith. Indeed it comes as Jesus was setting his face towards his cross and passion. When things seem difficult and challenging in our lives, the Transfiguration is a reminder of the brightness of the light of Christ that nothing in this world or out of it can extinguish. We christians have a duty and responsibility that in the midst of economic uncertainty, gun violence and whatever else may be presented that we will keep faith and hope alive and allow the light to shine not only from our places of worship but from the example of our lives. May God’s mercy be with us as we renew our relationship with him in the Holy Eucharist today. Your friend and priest, Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector !7

HEALTH CORNER: BY SOPHIA MARSHALL, Ph.d It’s Crop Over and there are many parties and functions to attend. In most cases, there are lots of tempting things to eat and drink. Are you guilty of that ‘all you can eat at once’ mentality? If so, let’s consider serving size versus portion size. A "portion" is the amount of a food that you choose to eat at any one time. A serving size is a standardized way of measuring food based on nutritional need. A portion size can be less or more than a serving size. It is important that we consume the total servings per day that is recommended. Below is a table to help you become familiar with serving sizes:
