Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings:

!

Today is the First Sunday after Pentecost. It is Trinity Sunday.

!

In the observance of Christ’s passage from this world to the Father, we would have considered the action of the Father in the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Christ. We would also have celebrated the divine action in the coming of Holy Spirit.

!

This observance of the Paschal Mystery brings us to the celebration of the doctrinal idea of God as a Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

!

The notion of Trinity is etched into our minds and forms an important part of our biblical, spiritual outlook. In addition to that, we find a trinitarian pattern written into almost all aspects of the sacred liturgy from beginning to end.

!

From the opening acclamation “Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit” to the blessing and dismissal, we call on the name of the glorious and undivided Trinity.

!

When we pray, prepare to preach or listen to the sermon, and to make our communion at the Altar we make the sign of the cross and call on the God who is Father Son and Spirit.

!

The exposition of God as Trinity brings to mind the Greek Fathers as Professor Patrick Regan tells us in an article entitled “Pneumatological and Eschatological”.

!

Regan states that the Greek Fathers in their elaboration of the trinitarian doctrine begin with the person of the Father, who is considered as the unique principle, origin or source of divinity. From him the Son is said "to come forth", and, following the terminology of St. John’s Gospel, the Spirit is said "to proceed�.

! !

But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; John 15:26

One of the aspects about the Trinity with which we have become familiar if not comfortable is the view that there is a personalistic perspective regarding this doctrine.

!

Regan explains that the element of plurality and that of unity in God are conceived in personal terms. Each Person of the Trinity relates to each other in a personal way. The wonderful part is that the Trinity in unity also relates to us in a personal manner as well.

!

God almighty loves us, saves us and is with us always. He comes to us in the Blessed Sacrament and shares himself with us in order that we may dwell with Him for ever.

!

May we remain steadfast in this faith and encourage all in our homes to come to love this personal God and Lord who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Today is being observed as Fathers’ Day. May God continue to bless all fathers, parents, guardians and all those who look after children.

THANKS FROM THE MOTHERS’ UNION THE MU expresses appreciation to all those who supported the picnic on Whit-Monday. It was an enjoyable day.

THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI On Thursday, 19th June at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Mass at St. Stephen’s Church to celebrate the the Feast of Corpus Christi, which is a celebration of the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion.. All are invited to attend. Servers and Chalice Assistants are asked to attend in robes.

CELEBRATING OUR ORGAN SCHOLARS There will be the formal recognition of out young organ scholars at a wine and cheese event on Saturday June 21 at 5:00pm in the Church of Christ the King. Please attend and join in celebrating with these young people.

THE ANNUAL ANGLICAN 5 VS 5 TOURNAMENT The annual Anglican 5v5 tournament will start on Saturday 12th July, 2014. The members of the St David's team are currently the reigning champions.

BISHOP OF LYNN It was a joy to have visiting with us at St. David’s Church recently the Bishop of Lynn, Diocese of Norwich, The Rt. Rev’d Jonathan Meyrick and his wife Rebecca as they were in Barbados to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Bishop Meyrick spent three years in Barbados 1981 - 1984 as the lecturer in Old Testament Studies at Codrington College.

ST. DAVID’S CHURCH CONCERT A fundraising concert will be held on Saturday, 30th August, 2014 in celebration of the rededication of our church at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre at 7:00 p.m. under the distinguished patronage of The Archbishop of the West Indies, and Mrs. Holder. It features The Royal Barbados Police Force Band, The St. David Augmented Choir and other artistes. Contribution: $35.00. Members of the congregation are invited to sell ten tickets each.

HEALTH CORNER WHAT IS CHIKUNGUNYA?

Recently we have been hearing about a strange disease called Chikungunya (pronounced chik-en-gun-ye). Its name is of African origin and means "that which bends up" because of the appearance of persons as a result of tremendous joint pain. Chikungunya is a virus which is transmitted to persons by the Aedes mosquito.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Sudden high fever Signs and symptoms may manifest approximately 3-7 days after a person has been bitten by the mosquito.

!Joint pain particularly in the wrists and ankles

Nausea and vomiting Pain behind the eyes which worsens with eye movement Loss of appetite Rash on chest and upper body Most people feel better within a week. However it has been reported that some people experience joint pains for months.

!

PREVENTION

Your best prevention is to prevent mosquito breeding and its bite. Do all the usual things such as: ➢ Pour kerosene oil on stagnant water ➢ Change water in vases ➢ Discard water in water saucers ➢ Discard old bottles, coconut shells and any containers that may collect water around the house ➢ Use mosquito repellants ➢ Use mosquito nets If you experience some of these symptoms, go to your doctor! A blood test will confirm whether you have Chikungunga. There are no antiviral medicines to treat this disease and therefore any treatment given will be for the pain and fever.
