BROOK THORPE NDA: Please give us a little background on yourself.

y name is Brook Thorpe. I was born in a small town outside of Jefferson City Missouri 34 years ago. My father got me interested in motocross. When I was 2 he got his first bike as an adult and was immediately hooked and was immediately pretty fast. For my 3rd birthday he gave me my first bike a 79 JR50 auto which I learned to ride and only a year or so later began racing. I raced in Missouri till the age of 10 when we moved to sunny FLA. In the early 90’s off-road and hare scrambles were big and that’s what my father had gotten big into, in Missouri so we started doing that full time and sprinkled in some moto here and there. Tracks like Dade city, the original Miami mx that was flattened by hurricane Andrew, Clewiston mx, Naples SX and eventually the original Thundercross MX as well as traveling to every corner of the state for hare scrambles and places to ride. I’ve been a part of FL moto now for 24 years and riding for roughly 31 years. You could say I’m hooked. There’s nothing else like this sport.

NDA: The DSD1 Shoot was one of our favorite shoots, also the first time we met. How did you become part of that shoot? In all the years I’ve been riding I’ve only been a part of something like that 3-4 times. By far the NDA / AerialMX shoot was the most fun and awesome to be a part of. I first met Chris Gentsch (owner of dsd1 compound) as customer of our auto repair facility and funny enough used to ride with his Dad quite a bit in the 90’s, Larry Gentsch. He was a fast local open $ rider. Local riders always seem to migrate together eventually and started riding with Chris and Dereck Castro here and there and have watched them turn their backyard track into something really cool. They’ve got the moto bug bad. It’s great to see it still gets a hold of people. I met Andrew Picciuto (p-chewtow) for the first time at the Loretta Lynn regional in TN and we started talking about what NDA was doing and he gave me the invite to come out for the shoot. So I have to thank p-chew-tow for that. I injured my wrist in TN but there was no way I was going to miss it so I taped it up for the day and sucked it up for the day. Glad I did. You guys were awesome.

NDA: How did ONS MX Inc get started? ONS MX INC basically started in my garage. I have been a mechanic and working on bikes my entire life since a teenager. My good friend when I was young was Jeremy Shuttleworth. He was a fast mini rider and eventual Pro rider on big bikes. I would travel to east coast SX and Outdoor races as his mechanic. That’s what started the idea. There was just something about being a part of that, which excited me. My dream from a teenager was to be a factory mechanic. After years of doing it for my friend I realized it was a big job, didn’t always pay, and sometimes was a thankless job. Unless you were a wrench for a top factory guy it was a rough way to go. I put that on hold and just started doing motors and suspension a for friends and guys I rode with. Eventually word spread and I would have 10-15 bikes stuffed in my 2 car garage with motors out and suspension off, it became overwhelming. Mike Couture who had just opened Revolve Racing Products LLC noticed and offered me space in his newly opened store in Naples FL. So I was working 8-5 daily and traveling to Naples at night building motors and suspension as well as doing general repair on bikes and 4 wheelers for local customers. I was working 20 hour days sometimes. I wanted the bike shop to grow and work so badly i was blind to my own well being. It was stressful and hard on my family, but i was driven. We moved our shop to a better location in south fort Myers in 2011. My dream has been to eventually make it a full on race shop. My passion is in 2 wheels and building suspension and motors. I enjoy helping young riders and even vet riders and sharing my 30+ years of riding and knowledge with the people I’ve met. It is truly a big family when you get this involved in it.

NDA: Being a father, how has motocross changed for you? Being a Father hasn’t really changed motocross for me too much. It has changed my outlook on what’s important and life tremendously though. As a racer I still can’t get enough of going out there and hanging it out and the pure adrenaline you get from it. That will never go away. The only difference now is i have to make sure I’m not hurt and go to work on Mondays. Ive always said they need a : +30 homeowner have to work on Monday class! The biggest and most important thing to me as a father who rides and races is sharing that passion with my 2 sons (soon to be 3 sons). I think just from being around the track as babies and toddlers they’ve grown to get excited about seeing bikes, watching races, seeing the pros on TV and also riding themselves now. I carried on tradition and got them PW50’s on each of their 3rd birthdays like I did. They can’t get enough of it. Makes me very proud that I could pass along that passion like my father did to me. The greatest thing to me is that it’s never been forced. If I didn’t want to ride, my father never made me. If my sons don’t, then it wouldn’t bother me. I would support them in whatever they chose to do. The absolute joy on their faces that you can see through their goggles on the weekends is worth every second. It teaches them responsibility and respect for their things. I always emphasize to them that riding is a reward and privilege and they’re always eager to make sure their gear is in order and bikes are clean. Its awesome to see they care that much about it at such a young ages of 5 and 6.

NDA: Whats the meaning behind the number 197? 197 came about when I was young and my buddy Jeremy used to give me a hard time for running #7 and said I needed a 3 digit number. Doug Henry was always a rider I looked up to as a kid and was number 19 for ages and so I combined that with my #7. ( 19 was also a long time girlfriends favorite number at the time, but for the sake of staying moto related we’ll go with that). When it came time to pick and decide a name for the business my long time friend Jason Vendrillo told me to make it unique. I look at companies like FMF and others and it’s something you remember and makes you wonder what it means. So I went with my long time race number as influence. One.Nine.Seven is where ONS came from. I like it and it always strikes up the question. What does it mean?

NDA: Are there any riders or supporters you want to give a shout out to? First off my father Rick Thorpe for getting me started in this sport and also passing along the mechanical knowledge and passion. He is currently 59 years old and still rides every weekend. Holds his own on a mx track too I will say. Jeremy Shuttleworth who I was friends with for many years and pushed me to become a better rider and taught me how to go fast in the FL sand and allowing me to travel with him to the pro races and get behind the scenes as a pro mechanic. I don’t know how far or fast I would have ever gotten had i not met him when I was young. My long time best friend Jason Vendrillo for always reminding me of my talents and giving me just enough of a hard time to push me. Mike Couture for letting me expand into his space and turning it into what it has become today. I’d like to thank all my long time customers. One thing I’ve found in this industry is that loyalty is hard to come by sometimes. I’ve a got a large group of great people who come to me for my knowledge and appreciate my no short cuts work ethic. I don’t do anything half ass, or I’d prefer not to do it at all and refuse to do something half way with my name on it. Shout out to Joe LaFalce (AMA pro 250/450) for his loyalty, The Straussbaugh family, Ben and Todd. The Paul family Jake and Jeff. Last but not least Rob Drennan and his son David. I consider them all family above customers and enjoy seeing them at the track on the weekends. The Boye family, Bob and Logan and the Tressler family, my mini bike crew. I’ve met so many great people who I’ve had long relationships with in my 24 years in FL that the list would go on for days, you all know who you are. Thanks lastly to NDA for being imbedded in the local FL riding scene. I think it’s important and awesome what you guys do and am privileged to have met and become a small part of what you guys do. It’s above and beyond the support you guys show.

Andrew has been a huge part of NDA for 2014. In fact we consider him much more than a sponsored rider. He brings a ton of energy and drive to NDA and we are proud to work with such a great guy. Heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s responsible for organizing Florida Summers shoots and has even hosted in the Thundercross video. His goal is to ride, as much as possible and as best as he can. Andrew has no problem with having fun too, for instance, signing up for the Tampa MX Top Gun Bracket Races (up against Ricky Renner) and the Pro Class. Not that he thinks he can beat them, but because he wanted to ride with some of the best (Renner, Chisholm, Freeberg) and he had a blast. Heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s also a big fan of the Daytona RCSX event. For him its all about the experience.

true moto-brotherhood. Getting to meet Chris Gentsch and Dereck Castro during the shoot for Florida Summers was definitely a good thing. As a filmer you never really know what to expect when your first pull up to a shoot, But NDA is happy to report that it was a great experience working with these guys. Within a few hours I felt

like Ive known them for years. Only thing that was missing was an end of day Bar-B-Q. Ive seen Chris at the I4MX series before actually meeting. He was the first of the group I noticed to get out there and race. Then soon after the whole crew decided to give it a shot...and now when they show up they pretty much take over a quarter of the pits. Its pretty awesome to see them out there and doing their thing. Having fun, racing and experiencing it all together. This is a big part of what moto-fam means. And hope to see them grow and show how its done. NDA ACTIONS SPORT BOOK FOUR

James Bubba Chiasson To be a photographer or videographer in the motocross industry, you have to love the sport to some degree. Motocross is filled with so much talent, you cant help but to be a fan of its athletes and personalities. So when I find myself face to face with someone Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve watched, or been entertained by, I cant help but be a little star struck. Meeting Bubba was so fricken cool for me. I started riding freestyle because of the Crusty Demons videos. To me, I saw a brotherhood of riders and crazy antix that I could relate to. And I cant even tell you how many times Ive quoted Bubba (damn dirtbike riders!) over the years. Heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s funny, kind, and an all out awesome guy who loves dirtbikes. James is the real deal, and Im glad our lives crossed paths.

Learing something new everyday - I stopped the Redbull girls to ask how they got into the promotions for Redbull and it turns out that Its part of their collage program. So when you see them out there know that there not just passing out cold drinks...they are part of a program that helps collage students. This is pretty awesome in my book.
