NDA Action Sports Digital Journals are a collection of short stories, interviews and photos about the Florida Action Sports scene. We also have great content devivered to us from around the world.

Issue 001 Although this would technically be Book 10, we decided to broaden our horizons, and go beyond our usual motocross coverage. When NDA was first launched in 2011, our intentions were to cover all action sports, but the love for moto had been our focus for the past few years. That love has not changed, but we no longer want to limit our cameras to only moto. We are just getting started and so far the response has been great. Meeting new people and learning more of what Florida has to offer. Each discipline we cover is unique but it also has a common thread, that ability to love what you do and share it with others. Whether helping a friend or competitor, the goal is progression for ourselves and the sport. Its family rooted, and has a strong community that sometimes spans across all disciplines. Welcome to the new NDA Action Sports.

TNT Paintball Florida Tracks and Trails

Paintball has grown into an explosive sport that takes skill, quick reaction and a team that is well versed in communication. NDA got to sit down with Pro’s Mike Paxson, Kyle Barry and Am League Player London Lewis and got to learn a little more about the sport from the ultra competitive to the family outing. TNT Paintball already has several different playing fields, 2-speed fields, and 4 scenario fields ranging from woods to an abandoned airfield. TNT Paintball is part of 100 thousand acres park in which to design and develop one of Florida’s best paintball facility. For more information visit www.floridatracksandtrails.com

MIKE PAXSON

Mike discovered paintball at a young age by watching it on t.v., excited to take part , he asked his mother for a gun but was denied. Later his grandfather decided to get him his first gun. Mike quickly joined a team in 1992 and by 1998 he started his pro career. During Mikes pro career hes watched the playing field go from the woods to a spectator friendly field, and going from a single event to a points chase spanning across several events leading to a championship. Although Paxson still travels across the world participating in pro events, he has set up base here in Florida at the Florida Tracks & Trails. The TNT Pro shop has everything you will need to enjoy the multiple playing fields. Mike also holds training camps for the beginner and veterans alike. Paxson mentioned that paintball is as much a family sport as it is a competitive sport. Just recently a family came out to play and the mom was very timid, even saying that she wasn’t sure that she wanted to play, but by the end of the day she was smiling and cheering “I shot this person, and that person” . When asked what’s the best part of paintball, Mike replied, “ 95 percent of the folks involved in this sport are great people and it has a really supportive community”, “Overall, mentally and physically its an awesome sport to be involved in”. ~Mike Paxson

KYLE BARRY

Kyle started playing in New York around 13yrs old. He played for about four year in a league that hosted events all over the North East. Eventually Kyle made his way to Florida to compete and train with the best of the best. After developing a relationship with Mike Paxson, Kyle decided to make Florida his home and joined Tampa’s Pro Team - Tampa Bay Damage. Kyle has put in a great effort to bring more players to the sport, By doing camps and educating new players and families on the benefits that paintball can bring. “ At a competitive level, paintball can test your mental, physical, and overall control of your mind, when I’m on the field I truly feel alive and challenged”. “ on the flip side, its also a great family activity that will spark friendly competition and memories that will last a lifetime”. ~Kyle Barry

LONDON WEST

London is part of the staff at TNT Paintball, he helps out in the pro shop and on the field. London’s first experience with paintball was at 11yrs old at a friends birthday party. At 13yrs old his uncle got is his first gun and London hasn’t looked back since. West played for Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, where he met Paxson, which led to him joining the TNT Paintball facility. Grateful for the opportunities that paintball has offered, West decided to stay in Florida, and continue being a part of the growing paintball scene. Currently he plays for the Division 2 Paintball team Absolute Chaos (based out of Greenville South Carolina) “I love the traveling, the awesome people you meet, and the great opportunities paintball offers, this is why I love the sport so much” ~London West

PARK DIRT STREET

North Port Skate Park The North Port Skate Park is a great place for the young and old to enjoy a day on your board or your BMX bike. Since the closing of the North Port BMX Park, the skate park allows BMX full-time. You would think this would spark rivalry between the two sports but its quite the opposite, they come as friends and even swap with each other so they can enjoy both sports. The staff that runs the park all have a friendly attitude and keep the park clean and enjoyable for everyone. For non members theres a waiver and a daily fee of $1.00. Youth may join a membership or sign up for the drug free program which will allow you to enter at no cost. There are a few helmets that you can borrow but its best to bring your own safety gear, as its required to participate.

JARROD SCHEBILSKI Jarrod has been riding bmx for about 6 years, and has had success in racing BMX for Charlotte in 2009, but finds his passion in freestyle. Enjoys traveling all over Florida and competing in several contests. Its easy to see that he pushes hard to progress in the sport. Jarrod has also made his way to Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania, where he was able to dial in the back flip. NDA hopes to catch up with Schebilski at a future contest to see what he can do under fire.

MOTO DIVISION

Kyle Vibbert Taking on Canada

Well to start off it went pretty well for my first pro nationals and for being so far away . It was around June sometime when we decided we wanted to do the last 2 Canadian nationals We where sitting at Waldo for Kenny Yoho’s i4 race and Bubba and I where talking and he suggested it would be a good idea for me to do it and get my feet wet. We had a little under 2 months to prepare. I just got released from my ACL surgery so i had some work ahead of my self for sure. But we managed to pull together the sponsors a couple weeks before we had to leave and we couldn’t have done it with out them - JPMX, and Jeff Scott, Jeremy my mechanic and Cory at Pinetrust. And thanks so much for all my other sponsors, for all your support. So we left August 3rd from Lakeland fl heading to Ulverton Quebec Canada racing Mx2 , but of coarse we had to make some pit stops on our way up. First we stopped, picked up Cory, which is my good friend that got dragged along to film the trip for us, but doesn’t have much time with a camera lol. Headed north stopped in North Carolina and stayed a night, rode Hog Heaven MX. Big thanks to everyone over there helping out the privateers track is so sick! We left there and kept heading north, next stop was right out side the Canadian boarder in up state NY. such a beautiful state, that night we did some laundry at the hotel and headed into Canada. Montreal, first and let me tell you that place can get you in trouble quick lol. We road mtb around the city and everything super cool, we also got VIP access into the comic con the 2nd largest one in the world, super cool event and love to see everyone all dressed having a good time. We left there to our hotel in Ulverton, which by this time its Friday, we are all dead and exhausted, so we slept. Got up next morning and headed to Ulverton MX, signed up, and got tech inspection done. We then went around talked to some of the teams and watched some amateur motos. Then back to the hotel early so we can eat and get a good nights rest. Woke up Sunday at 5 am, ate a good breakfast, and went to the track. Jeremy got the bike all set up, I walked the track and did a lil morning bike ride. Went out first practice and felt a lil tight but i loved

the tracks super elevation and sandy terrain, a lot of rocks though. 2nd practice which is your qualifier I came out 5th in my group. I felt super good and loose. Came back to the pit to prepare for the 1st moto. Out of the gate in 18th, held there for 5 laps then my knee popped again through a corner. I had to re-group myself, the pain was so bad , but I came back from 39th to 31st. Rode the 2nd moto to salvage a 31st finish, but at this point I know I did something to my knee again. Pain aside we headed to Utopia Ontario Canada, we stayed at Bobs house, which we cant thank him, Mike and everyone in the Canadian crew for all your help and support. We went and rode moto park which is a super sick track. My knee didn’t feel to bad, but definitely wasn’t right, and it made me ride super conservative, which is never good. By the end of the day it felt better. I also got to ride a 1979 Yamaha 390 and do some wheelies down the road, super fun. We headed out to Walton on Saturday and signed up and camped. A super sick track that ran through the trees, and through the valleys. Went out first practice and about my 6th or 7th lap I went through a rut, my leg kicked and popped back, I fell over, my leg was in so much pain and it was frustrating because i knew what i did, and i knew i couldn’t race like that. This was a heart breaker for me. We headed back to Bobs, packed up, and headed out. We went by Toronto which is an awesome city, then by Niagara Falls witch is absolutely amazing. Finally we booked it home, we were tired and all out of money lol. This whole experience was awesome and so far I feel Bubba was right. This trip definitely helped me grow as a racer, and I’m pumped for next year. I took the good out of it and learned so much, from the races, chatting with the teams, and I’m ready to come back next year and do all 10 rounds in MX 2. Big thanks to all my sponsors that helped me this year JPMX, Step Up MX, NDA Action Sports, HPC, Kawasaki, Fun Bike Center, my mechanic Jeremy, my good friends Jeff Scott and Cory Johnson, my Gf Ashley for all her support, Vince Devane, Motocouple racing, Hinson and everyone else I forgot. I promise next year will be even better!!!

Charlotte BMX Located in Port Charlotte Florida, this BMX facility worthy of a visit. Its well groomed, with a mix between orange clay and concrete. A great staging area and electronic drop gate that rounds up the professional feel. Although our first visit was cut short by the Florida rain, we go to capture a few shots of the local talent. The riders put out a really good vibe, as they soaked in as much riding time as they could. Looking forward to heading out there soon and hopefully have better weather conditions. We would like to thank the staff for allowing us to roam the facility and snap a few great shots.

MOTO DIVISION

Cindy Lizardo It’s my body and soul connecting to my bike, that comfort , that “at home” feeling, and when I learned how to soar through the air, there was no turning back. My love for the sport only grew stronger as I faced haters, and heart breaking discrimination. It was something that pushed me to my limit, unlocking my hidden skills. I never expected to fall so deeply in love with the sport. But when you find yourself willing to fight for it, it becomes much more than a hobby. While I was being stomped down in this so called “male dominated sport”, I just simply proved to myself that it just takes a little bit of courage to discover your talent and become your passion. As we overcome our fears and learn the values needed to fulfill our dreams we unknowingly inspire others. It becomes something constructive to myself and hope to those that I’m an inspiration to. And I am proud to say I can stand my own ground in this perceived “male dominated” world. It all starts within ourselves to conquer our own fears, deal with life and learn from it until we know our purpose. I suffered an accident during one of my morning runs, I spent 6 months in rehabilitation and took 2yrs away from the race scene, for my own safety and my families security. Who would have thought, after all that time, someone would have remembered me. It feels so good that no matter what I have been through, I made an impact on someones life and that drives me even more, and continue being a better person. To me, life is like motocross, we face doubles, triples and berms, and we must charge at every rhythm section and stay driven. Big thanks to Race Ready Fitness, Chris Cousins, as they have been with me all the way. Its not just a facility, its Family. Its the passion that sparks the engines up. And knowing how to stay on the gas helps us through life.

PAYNE SKATE PARK S A R A S O T A Though we are just getting started at Payne Skate Park, we already know its going to be awesome. The park itself offers a lot to enjoy for the skater, biker and scooters alike. For our first visit, we were invited out by Tim Storck to film a few of the local kids that are part of the 180 Skate Church crew. Everyone was having a great time trying their best to shine for the camera, unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time to get everything we needed to put out a video that matched the awesomeness that is Payne Skate Park. So we planned on making another visit. October 3rd was Shredtoberfest, presented by Payne Skatepark and SK8SKOOL ...continued on the next page.

he morning started off with a few light showers to deal with, but by 11oclock the sun was shinning and the weather was sweet. Shredtoberfest was a madhouse of back to back contests, challenges and prizes. The contests offered events for skate, bmx and scooters. Easy to say spending a few hours at the park was a blast. It was also nice to see a few familiar faces from the North Port Skate park out there. Best part of the day was hearing the cheers from every corner of the park every time someone landed a trick. Be sure to check out the NDA Action Sports website to see the highlight video.

Compound Cares

Hang Ten for Autism

When you’re able to find freedom from the shackles of your mind, the world becomes a brighter place, filled with happiness. Let the warmth of these memories comfort the soul.

H2O DIVISION

Hang Ten for Autism is a local event here in Sarasota

that was started by a conversation between Dr. Kirstina Ordetx, Pinnacle Academy’s Director, and Benny Ray from the Compound Boardshop. Dr. Ordetx had recently watched a surf video of pro surfer Clay Marzo called Just Add Water. Clay Marzo has been diagnosed with Aspergers, a form of ASD, and the story focused on how Clay deals with his condition and how the ocean and surfing changed his life. The story motivated Dr. Ordetx to create a surfing day for her kids, and thats where the Compound Boardshop comes in. The Compound Boardshop has been well established in the Sarasota area as a legitimate and caring surf shop that does tons of outreach to the local community. It was a great combination. The first Hang Ten for Autism was in 2009 and held on beautiful Siesta Key. That day was cold, windy, and the waves were kinda big for the kids, but that did not stop the stoke and complete fun of the day. The day is simple, 100 kids are registered to go surfing and over 200 volunteers donate their time to give those kids an amazing day of surfing. After 6 years of doing this event we have had every type of conditions for surf possible, from super flat to some super fun waves, and every single time no matter what it was the most amazing day ever. The Compound Boardshop has dedicated themselves to this event from day 1, and after the Center For Autism Research and Education was dissolved they took on the entire operation. Because of the success of the past events the operation went off with out a hitch based on the outpour of volunteers and local companies jumping in to help fund the event. Benny Ray boasts that with out the entire generosity of the local Sarasota surfers and organizations this event would not be possible. Hang Ten for Autism has such a special place in the heart of this community and the Compound promises to never let this amazing event ever stop.

MOTO DIVISION ronment. There was motorcycles everywhere all sizes all makes and models and lots of different applications for them. From the simple joy ride to the daily commute, it was a bikers heaven, and I was greeted with open arms. I have been a personal trainer for professional motocross and supercross riders for over six years and I have traveled all over the country. I have never seen this amount of passion and drive in such a overwhelmingly large group of riders. For me the most noticeable part of this experience

Written by

Christopher Cousins Moto In the Philippines

2nd Dr. Encarnacion Memorial Motocross Championship Competition

W

here do I begin?, Well the first thing that comes to mind when you mention the Philippines, is it’s beautiful women, picturesque beaches and very affordable shopping. But I’ve learned that there’s another hidden gem about the Philippines, its motocross community. A very live and vibrant community that is just as passionate about the sport as I am. This made for a very comfortable journey. I was invited to a very unique opportunity to take part in the 2nd Dr. Encarnacion Memorial Motocross Championship Competition and experience the motocross community first hand and from the time I stepped off the plane, I knew that was my kind of envi-

was their racing format. When they say they have an open class,it is truly an open class, anything that has two wheels could take part. From what I saw, this is the true meaning of motocross. These riders were out there truly for the love of racing, with all of the glitz and glamour was stripped away. There here was nothing but a man, a machine and a starting gate. Seeing this brought me back to my childhood, where the only thing that mattered was who can get to the finish line first, it was some very good bar to bar racing This opportunity also allowed me to share my knowledge with the local riders on how to be strategic and get a competitive edge on the competition. These racers and race fans were very eager to receive any information that might give them.

~a statement from Rafael Laudato Espanola and Allan Joenard Sebastian a.k.a bob marley Now during my stay in the Philippines I’ve managed to hit the radar of some of local riders and shop owners. They invited me out to a local private test track and after a little training, they showed their appreciation by bringing me in as family, and gave me a tour to see a parts of the Philippines that very few foreigners get to experience Its very humbling, yet exciting to see how a single sport could bring together complete strangers from the other side of the world. In a short period of time, we went from strangers to close friends. I would also like to give a big Thanks for all of the help and support from the Lizardo family, which was the backbone to the success of my trip. Francis Lizardo was more than helpful. He made everything possible within a blink of an eye, with no hesitation, rain or shine he got the job done. From being my tour guide, making sure my transportation was arranged, vehicles serviced and ready to go. And most importantly my late night after hours snack requests during the middle of the pouring rain. And last but not least a big thank you to Miss Cindy Lizardo for making all this possible. My daily itinerary was full of non stop excitement, from my meet and greet at the local bike shops, to a great fun fair of shopping in the Robinson mall. Great fans of motocross and all in all it was a very successful trip. I look forward to returning in the very near future to do my part in helping with the progression of our sport

Having Christopher Cousins at our place was one of the most memorable events our lives, as motocross riders. We could not imagine that it would be possible. Big thanks to Miss Cindy Lizardo for making it possible. Although, it was just a 3-hour training session (not so formal though, it meant a lot to us) As an armature motocross rider, with no formal training on how to ride properly, it was such a big opportunity for us. Learning some of the tips and techniques on how to ride properly from him has made a huge impact in our lives as motocross riders. Chris is a cool trainer. We were able to understand and quickly improve with his training. Although it was a short training session, we can say that we’ve learned a lot. The Do’s and Dont’s when riding has been explained properly, and now its up to us to practice. Big thanks to you Chris. We hope to see you real soon. We’ve learn a lot. But we still have a lot to learn.

MOTO DIVISION

I

t started off as facebook group page that was put together by Andrew Picciuto. He simply wanted an easy way for friends to communicate when and where was the next ride session would take place. It quickly caught on, and more and more Florida riders joined the page to share their experiences and plans for the weekend. Today the group has riders from all over the world. Now with an official facebook fan page and great crew behind the scenes, the Florida Motocross Group does their best to share events, races, and fun stuff that’s moto related. The goal is to get riders together and share all the great things Florida has to offer in the sport of Motocross. If you see Andrew around be sure to ask for a FMG sticker, printed up by Florida’s very own EnjoyMFG.
