Welcome,

The NDSCS Foundation works closely with many incredible donors to offer scholarships to over half of the students that attend NDSCS. Our business and industry partnerships and sponsorships add another component and with that, 74% of our degree-seeking students attend tuition-free. We are proud and amazed to be a part of something so great!

The Alumni Foundation reached a major milestone of awarding 1.1M in scholarships this school year. Through continued generosity and support, we were able to reach this goal and realize the large impact we can make together. New initiatives were also started. A program called “Tools for Opportunity” is available to students that may not be able to afford the tools needed for their program. Removing barriers such as this will change the future for many students.

As a student and recipient of a scholarship, we hope you will appreciate the support and pay it forward in the future. Many of our donors were once a Wildcat (always a Wildcat) and have shown their gratitude for their education and experiences by supporting you! This day would not be possible without them. We encourage you to learn more about the individual or business that has made your scholarship possible.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

1962 Football Championship Endowment Scholarship

The 1962 Football team was inducted into the NDSCS Hall of Fame in 2012. With the leadership of Mike Felling, team member, they came together to create the 1962 Football Championship Endowment Scholarship in honor of their memorable NDIAC championship season. The team truly believes, “Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat” and attributes many of their successes to their time at NDSCS.

Alex Stern Family Foundation Endowment

The Alex Stern Family Foundation supports the arts, social welfare/human services, education, youth recreation, civic projects and health issues for the benefit of Cass and Clay counties. Alex Stern moved to Fargo in 1880 and founded Alex Stern and Company. He founded Dakota National Bank in 1916 and was very active in the Fargo community and political arena.

Alfred Leland Endowment

Darlene H. Leland established a scholarship in her husband’s memory for students of high scholastic standing with financial need. Alfred was a 1940 Pre-Education graduate. They lived on a farm in Richland County.

Andrew Blome Memorial Scholarship

Andrew Blome was a 2004 NDSCS Liberal Arts graduate. He passed away in September of 2017 from suicide. His mother, Shelley, has worked at NDSCS for 40 years. Andrew’s parents, Shelley and Mike, started this scholarship in 2018 in memory of their son, Andrew, who is dearly missed.

Bernotas Family Scholarship

Vivian, 1970 Secretarial graduate; Tom, 1990 Business Management graduate; and youngest son, Brian, 2000 Architectural Drafting and Estimating graduate, and their families are proud to be Wildcats. Tom is a retired contractor, Vivian is entering her 30th year of employment at NDSCS (Mildred Johnson Library and currently in the President’s Office), and Brian is a general contractor. They believe in the skilled workforce that NDSCS provides.

Bjerke Family Farm Endowment

Michael is a 1970 Pre-Engineering graduate. He participated in basketball, cross country, and track while attending NDSCS making many lifelong friends. Michael’s son Chad earned his Recreational Engine Technology degree and his daughter Jenna received her Liberal Arts degree at NDSCS before attending Southwest State to pursue her bachelor’s degree in education. Michael taught physics, chemistry, and other science classes for several years in Freeman and Brookings, South Dakota and encouraged students to consider NDSCS in their post-secondary options. He is a wonderful NDSCS Ambassador and believes in the educational and athletic opportunities offered. The Bjerke Family Farm, which the endowment is named after, is located between Watertown and Aberdeen, SD. It is a wildlife sanctuary where many family and friends of the Bjerke family share their love for hunting and fishing.

Craig Machacek & Brenda (Bosard) Machacek Endowment

Craig is a 1975 NDSCS Computer Information Systems graduate and Brenda a 1974 graduate in Accounting. Craig was active in band, choir and drama and Brenda was a Wildcat Kitten Ambassador. They both worked in the field of their degrees until their retirement in 2017 with Craig employed at Parker Hannifin Corp for 38-1/2 years. Craig and Brenda are proud parents to two sons and grandparents of two granddaughters.

Darlene (Stevens) Simonitch Endowment

Darlene Stevens Simonitch and her husband, Jack, both attended NDSCS between 1948-1951. Darlene was a 1949 Liberal Arts graduate and Jack played basketball for the Wildcats under coach Ed Werre. Darlene passed away in 2002 and Jack in 2014.

Denise & Perry Miller Family Endowment

Perry (1981 Ag-Business) and Denise (1989 Business Mgmt) understand the importance of scholarships and how they can change the future for NDSCS students. Perry is a former Alumni Foundation Board member and 2015 Alumus of the Year. They have both worked at the Alumni Foundation and continue to volunteer when needed. Their legacy to impact and create positive change is felt in our community and at NDSCS.

Donald Merritt Endowment

Donald S. Merritt was 1939 NDSCS graduate of Accounting. He farmed the family farm near Christine, N.D. with his brothers. Donald passed away in 1995 and had NDSCS in his will.

Dr. Clair T. Blikre Memorial Endowment

Dr. Clair T. Blikre was the 6th President at NDSCS. He served as President for 31 years from 1966-1987. The NDSCS activities center is named Clair T. Blikre Activities Center in his honor.

FT or PT student in 1st or 2nd year. Preference to student athlete, resident for N.D., Minn., S.D., or Mont. Enrolled in any program. GPA 2.0.

FT students that are residents of Cass or Clay counties. Scholarship intended to encourage enrollment through the Last Dollar Initiative. GPA 2.0

FT student, 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizen.

FT/PT, 1st or 2nd year student enrolled in any program, any state – touched by suicide.

FT 1st or 2nd year student from N.D. or adjacent state, US citizen enrolled in any academic program, based on financial need and proof of volunteering during high school required. 2.5 GPA.

FT 1st or 2nd year student, enrolled in any program, South Dakota resident, preference given to NDSCS Athlete.

FT/PT, 1st or 2nd year student enrolled in any program. 2.5 GPA.

Female student with good citizenship and financial need.

FT or PT, 1st or 2nd year student. Preference given to Culinary Arts program, second preference, any NDSCS program. Preference given to softball player. GPA 2.0.

Student is resident of Richland County, basis on need and character.

FT 2nd year student from N.D. and a N.D. high school graduate. Based on GPA.

Duane & Carol Thimjon Endowment

Duane is a 1959 graduate, and his wife, Carol is a 1964 graduate of NDSSS. Duane and Carol are strong supporters of NDSCS and the community. Duane, an avid baseball fan and played baseball to Duane, and avid baseball fan, played baseball for NDSSS. He was pleased to see baseball return in 2019, and would like to support athletes attending NDSCS.

Econofoods Scholarship

Econofoods is an ESOP organization locally owned and operated in Bemidji, Minn., with stores in Wahpeton, N.D. Their intent is to promote higher education to local students attending NDSCS.

Elaine Gran Halls Endowment

Elaine was a 1942 graduate of NDSSS Office Administration. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota and received a degree in Accounting. She worked as a CPA in the State of Wisconsin for many years. Her and husband, James, were married for 63 years and had three children, Peter, Jon and Steven along with eight grandchildren. Elaine passed away in 2018.

Ellen (Dahl) Hill Endowment

Ellen I. (Dahl) Hill was a Wyndmere, N.D. resident. She and her husband were successful farmers, she was active and generous to many organizations in Richland County, N.D. Her son Harvey was Alumnus of the Year in 1997.

Fred Radloff Memorial Endowment

Fred and Rose Radloff operated a Locker Plant in Hankinson for 26 years. Rose was a 1917 Business graduate and the 1982 Alumna of the Year. They donated land in southern Richland County, the cash rent and later, the sale of the land, established this scholarship.

Fred, Marie & Edna Hudson Endowment

Edna Hudson was the daughter of Fred and Marie. She was handicapped but that did not stop her from being very active and involved in her church and community. Edna passed away in 2007 at age 78. The scholarship was set up to assist special needs students.

Gary Rogers “GR” Legacy Scholarship

Roger Freden, better know as Gary Rogers or “GR” was a lifelong sports enthusiast and broadcaster. One of his greatest joys was traveling with the NDSCS Wildcat teams. He was grateful to be inducted into the NDSCS Wildcat Hall of Fame in 1999. This scholarship was established in 2019 by friends and family of Gary Rogers after his passing in 2017. The announcer’s Press Box at NDSCS Activities Center is named in his honor. Gary leaves behind two children and one grandchild.

Henry C. Bonde Memorial Endowment

Henry C. Bonde was married to Helen in Sisseton, S.D. in 1966. They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their lake home on Lake Lida, Minn. and their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. They left a trust to NDSCS for student scholarships.

Herman Liberda Memorial Endowment

Herman Liberda was an administrator at NDSCS for 23 years. He was director of Residential Services upon retirement. Helping students was always a primary concern for Herman.

Hexem Family Endowment

Alvin M. Hexem was a 1950 graduate of NDSCS in Ag Mechanics Sales and Service. He was a long-time farmer in the Williston, N.D. area. He passed away in 2003.

Joe Kragness Endowment

This scholarship was established in memory of Joe Kragness in 2017. Joe was a Richland County native, a WWII veteran and an 18-year instructor in the Auto Mechanics Department at NDSCS. He and his wife, Agnes, had two children, Duane and Donna, who both graduated from NDSCS. NDSCS was very important to Joe and he knew he made a difference with his teaching.

John & Patricia Zimbrick Endowment

John is a 1948 graduate of NDSSS earning a degree in Business Management. He was awarded Alumnus of the Year in 1978 and lead the campaign to build the Harry Stern and Ella Stern Cultural Center.

KB & Esther Wieman Endowment

The KB and Esther Wieman Trust established a scholarship in 1991. KB passed in 1989 and Esther in 2006. The scholarship continues to build from a unitrust that was set up by KB and Esther. Neither were graduates of NDSCS, but had a strong belief in two year education in the state of North Dakota. They lived most their lives in Minot, ND

FT or PT student enrolled in any program. GPA 2.0. Preference given to baseball players first with second preference to other athletes.

FT/PT, 1st or 2nd year student enrolled in any program. 2.0 GPA, Student is a Graduate of Richland or Wilkin County Schools.

2nd year students who plan to live and work in N.D. 3.5 GPA.

Kenneth & Marie Hansen Trust Endowment

In 1995, Kenneth H. Hansen and Marie Hansen established a charitable remainder unitrust naming NDSCS the beneficiary. The funds from the estate were to be utilized in a scholarship. Kenneth passed away in 1997 and Marie in 2007.

Kim & Brian Nelson Endowment

Kim Nelson, has been an employee of NDSCS since 2002. When this scholarship was started Kim was the Executive Director of the Foundation. She and her husband Brian, both grew up on rural farms and believe that two-year programs are undervalued and wanted give back to a student going into any trade or technical program. They have their own trucking company. Together, they have five children in which two attended NDSCS. Two are in the health field, one a welder, one a robotic welder, and one with a marketing degree.

Lake Region Electric Trust Endowment

This scholarship was originally awarded from the Lake Region Electric Trust Board as part of “Operation Round Up”. Funding was provided by Lake Region Electric Cooperative members who opted to “round up” their monthly electric bills. The Operation Round Up program has ended, but the scholarship is still in place to benefit family members of Lake Region Electric Cooperative.

Laskey-Liberda Memorial Endowment

The Laskey Endowment was created in memory of Stanly and Sylvia Laskey, who watched “Science School” prosper and grow throughout their time in Wahpeton. The Liberda Endowment was created in memory of former Director of Residential Services, Herman Liberda. Herman was at NDSCS for 23 years.

Laura Hughes Memorial Endowment

R.J. Hughes established this scholarship in 1968 in honor of his wife, Laura Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Red River Valley University, now known as NDSCS. R.J. and Laura were married in 1943 and together they founded Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton. Mrs. Hughes died in 1959.

Leonard Johnson Endowment

Leonard Johnson graduated from the Basic Machinist program at NDSCS in 1939. He was a life long resident of the Devils Lake area and worked the family farm with his brother, Earl.

Lethe & Bernard Meyer Endowment

Bernie is a 1953 NDSSS graduate of the Pre-Commerce Program. He lettered in basketball and football. Bernie went on to get his BBA at the University of Miami. Bernie was the 2011 NDSCS Alumnus of the Year. He is a passionate supporter of NDSCS and has served on several boards. Bernie and Lethe had five children. Lethe passed away in 2007.

Madeline & Darrel Miller Family Endowment

Madeline Miller is a 1948 graduate of NDSSS Secretarial Training Program. She and her husband, Darrel, were married for 53 years and farmed for 36 years. Darrel passed away in 2003. In 2010, Madeline made a donation to build the Women’s softball complex at NDSCS in memory of their daughter, Gayle, who attended NDSCS in 1974 and passed away from cancer in 1989. Madeline was Parade Grand Marshall in 2007 and received the Family Tradition Award in 2014. Madeline and her family are proud supporters of NDSCS Alumni and Athletics.

Madge Vertin Endowment / M. Vertin Scholarship

Marjorie “Madge” Vertin did not attend NDSCS but always had a passion for her hometown college and its students. She supported the college through scholarships, Alumni Club memberships and a major contribution to the football stadium which is named for her father, Frank Vertin. Madge’s parents, Frank and Ann, were prominent business owners in the Wahpeton/ Breckenridge community. Madge passed away in 1982 but left a legacy to help NDSCS students for years to come. Vertin,

Marian (Longbella) Brown was a 1939 NDSCS Office Administration graduate. She was actively involved in the Glee Club, Pistol Club, and Library Club while attending college. She married Dwayne Brown, 1940 NDSCS Sheet Metal graduate. They left a trust to establish student scholarships to NDSCS.

Marvin Ouse Endowment

Marvin Ouse and his wife Ella were farmers near Breckenridge, Minn. for 44 years. He believed in NDSCS and the assistance the Ag/Diesel Departments provided for farmers.

Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative Endowment

This scholarship was established by Minn-Dak Farmers Co-op to honor Gordon Gunness, MinDak’s purchasing manager at the time of his death, and Leo Yaggie, a founding member of the Minn-Dak Board of Directors. The scholarship also honor’s the ‘can do’ attitude of Minn-Dak employees and to recognize their outstanding team effort.

NDSCS Alumni/Foundation DREAMS Auction Scholarship

The NDSCS Dreams Auction was started in 1994 to Direct Resources to Educate And Mentor Students. This event has volunteer help from NDSCS students and community members. The NDSCS Alumni/Foundation is proud to host this annual event which brings over 700 guests from all across the region.

NDSCS Bookstore Endowment

Nebraska Book Company operated on campus from 2010-2015, they gave some of the proceeds of the bookstore to help benefit student scholarships. The NDSCS Bookstore continues to support students with this endowment.

NDSCS Capital Campaign Endowment

In 2003, NDSCS embarked upon a capital campaign to raise $3-$4 million to help fund an endowment for scholarships, instructional equipment and technology enhancements, and classroom facility renovations.

NDSCS Memorial Foundation Endowment

This scholarship is funded through donations made to the NDSCS Alumni/Foundation, in memory of those that have passed.

NDSCS Science of Leadership Scholarship

In 2015, the Larson Family Foundation donated to the Science of Leadership Program. Edson passed away in 2008. The Edson and Margaret Larson Foundation was established through the estate of Edson Larson and is used for a number of charitable purposes. One is the establishment of a premier leadership scholarship for North Dakota students. Edson and Margaret were married in 1955 at the Governor’s mansion in Bismarck, N.D. Margaret’s father, Clarence Norman Brunsdale, was North Dakota’s governor at the time. Edson was proud of his accomplishments, serving in the armed forces, farming, and developing sharp investment skills.

NDSCS Student Assistant

The NDSCS Student Assistant scholarship was established to benefit student lab and teacher assistants here on the NDSCS campus.

This scholarship was started to benefit any student that is an employee direct dependent, non-NDSCS employed spouse, or grandchild of an employee.

Odin & Hazel Stutrud Endowment

Odin Stutrud was a 1941 NDSCS graduate of Printing/Graphic Arts and was an instructor in the NDSCS Printing Department for 13 years. In 1971, Odin was named Technical Education/ Coordinator for the state of North Dakota. He also served as an executive director of the American Technical Education Association. Odin was a recipient of the 1991 Wildcat of the Year award. He established this scholarship in memory of Hazel, his wife of 64 years. Hazel passed away in 2008 and Odin in 2015.

Otter Tail Power Company Scholarship

Otter Tail Power is an investor owned electric utility that provides electricity for customers in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota with headquarters in Fergus Falls, Minn. Otter Tail Power Company’s mission is to connect with their rural communities to support young minds, invest in their current and future workforce and create vital communities.

Paul C. Green Memorial Endowment

During the 1980’s Mayme Green initiated a student scholarship fund, giving NDSCS over $20,000 for scholarships. Her sincere desire to help young people’s advancement in education led to her appointment to the NDSCS Foundation Board of Directors. She served on the board from 1988-1991 and was honored in 1985 as Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. In one of her most remembered comments, she reflected the importance of education, saying, “our young people are our greatest potential - what better investment can we make.” The current Mayme Green Allied Health Center was dedicated in her honor in 1999.

This scholarship is named after her late husband Paul C. Green. She carried on her late husband’s educational philanthropy and established a private foundation before her death to award gifts to education centers like NDSCS.

Percy G. Willson Endowment

Percy G. Willson was a former Wimbledon and Leal area farmer. He made his money in North Dakota and designated his estate to go to state organizations that help young people. Mr. Willson passed away in 1988.

This scholarship was established to recognize students with top honors at NDSCS. Each year President’s honor endowment is awarded by our NDSCS president.

PrimeWood/Quanex Scholarship

PrimeWood of Wahpeton believes in giving back to the communities in which they operate in. They have been a large employer in the Wahpeton and Breckenridge communities for several years, showing support for various causes. Ralph A. Williams Endowment

This scholarship was established in 2018 in memory of Ralph A. Williams who passed away in April of 2017. Ralph graduated from NDSCS in 1940 with a Pre-Engineering degree. He continued his education at NDSU and worked as a chemist in the automotive paint industry after serving in the Navy during WWII. Ralph was a loyal supporter of NDSCS for many years.

Randall S. Curry Endowment

Randall S. Curry was a native of Steele County, N.D. where he operated the family farm in Hope, N.D. He chose NDSCS for this scholarship because he believes in two-year educational institutions and the programs they offer. Randall left a generous and everlasting gift, one of the largest received by NDSCS. His benevolent spirit for helping North Dakota youth receive an education is commendable. Curry,

River of Life Community Church is located in Breckenridge, Minn. They choose to support NDSCS by starting a scholarship to help reduce the cost of education for students in need.

Rose Radloff Memorial Endowment

Fred and Rose Radloff operated a Locker Plant in Hankinson for 26 years. Rose was a 1917 Business graduate and the 1982 Alumna of the Year. They have been generous supporters of the college.

Rotary Club of Wahpeton-Breckenridge Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Wahpeton started this scholarship to be awarded to a Richland or Wilkin County Rotary Student of the Month during their Junior year in high school. This is an annual scholarship.

Theodore Laibly Memorial Endowment

Theodore Laibly was a 1926 graduate of Accounting and Business at NDSCS. He grew up in Wahpeton and as a student worked at the Leach Library. His father was a blacksmith on Dakota Avenue. Theodore spent most of his life in Elko, Nev. as a school teacher. Mr. Laibly passed away in 2001.

Tim Klontz Endowment

Tim Klontz graduated from NDSSS in Graphic Arts in 1958. He worked for the Fargo Forum for 23 years. His education enabled him to move around and succeed. He developed lasting friendships and enjoyed his courses and time at NDSCS. He created the scholarship as a way to give back.

Vernon C. Lee Memorial Endowment

This scholarship was established in 1982 by Wil-Rich Farm Equipment Company in memory of Mr. Lee. Vernon was a former President of Wil-Rich in Wahpeton, ND

Virginia Olson Memorial Endowment

Dr. Jerry Olson was the 7th President at NDSCS serving from 1987-2000. He started this scholarship in memory of his late wife, Virginia Olson. Dr. Olson currently lives in Bowling Green, Ohio and stays in contact with his friends at NDSCS.

Wahpeton High School Alumni Endowment

The Wahpeton High School Class of 1955 started a fund with the NDSCS Foundation to support a scholarship for a deserving WHS graduate. At a more recent WHS All-School Reunion enough donations were added to the fund to create an endowment and receive matching state dollars.

Wahpeton Kiwanis Club Scholarship

The Kiwanis Club of Wahpeton-Breckenridge serves the community with a variety of different projects for youth.

Willard Grager Memorial Scholarship

Willard Grager and family are dedicated to helping talented and deserving students at NDSCS. He was Alumnus of the Year in 1970. Willard and his wife established a loan fund in honor of W.M. Nordgaard in 1964 to help students with personal expenses.

Ben J. Frolek was a lifelong Lidgerwood farmer who believed in giving back by providing financial assistance to deserving and talented students in the Ag program.

C&S Farms Endowment

Chris and Suzanne Johnson established this scholarship in 2014. They are Richland County, N.D. farmers and long-time friends of the NDSCS. Chris graduated in 1976 from NDSCS in the Tool and Die program and from the Agriculture program in 1978. He is a current Foundation Board Member.

Cargill Scholarship

Cargill has grown to become one of the world’s largest, privately-owned businesses, providing food, agricultural, risk management, financial and industrial products and services around the globe. The local Cargill team saw the need and responded in 2012 by starting an annual scholarship to students. Cargill is also a corporate sponsor of the NDSCS Alumni/Foundation.

Charles W. & Joan F. Hardie Endowment

The Charles W. and Joan F. Hardie scholarship was established in 2018 by Charlie’s wife, Joan and his daughter, Wanda Mauch. Charlie was a life-long farmer and even after retirement, helped farm families through the Farm Rescue Organization. Charlie and Joan moved to Wahpeton, N.D. in 2010 and enjoyed being involved with family and community activities. Charlie passed away in 2017. Charles and Joan have six children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

David & Jeri Yaggie Endowment

David (1964) and Jeri Yaggie of Breckenridge, Minn., are longtime friends of the college. David served on the Foundation board, is a Wildcat letterwinner and he has a long family history with NDSCS. David’s parents, Leo and Catherine Yaggie Family, were named the Family Tradition Award in 2000. Dave and Jeri’s love of farming and interest in leaving a legacy for their grandchildren lead them to start the David and Jeri Yaggie Endowment Scholarship. David passed away in 2019.

Don Yaggie/Tom Kotnour Endowment

Don Yaggie and Tom Kotnour were long-time friends, solid leaders in the community and strong believers in education. Tom received the Friend of the College award in 2003, he passed away in 2010. Together they started this scholarship as supporters of NDSCS.

Dwight G. Hoxie/Robinson Brothers Endowment

Robert G. Robinson of St. Paul, Minn. established this scholarship in 1993. He was a University of Minnesota agronomist. Dwight G. Hoxie was a farmer and doctor who moved to Richland County to 1905. Hoxie,

Ernest and Ruth Buchholz were farmers in the Casselton area for 61 years. Their son, William, was a student at NDSCS in 1992. They encouraged the pursuit of career education. Ernie and Ruth passed away in 2012.

The Ivan and Jane Miller Endowment was started by their children, Casey and Chris Miller, Jon and Mary Jo Miller, Kelly and Jolene, and Julie (Miller) and Brian Vculek. The Miller family have been long standing farmers in the Wahpeton area. Their intent is to help students pursuing a degree in Agriculture or a Technical program. Ivan and Jane’s children and grandchildren continue the family passion for farming.

James & Norma Link Family Endowment

James and Norma were lifelong farmers in Mooreton, N.D. and were very involved in their community and state. James helped develop the Minn-Dak sugar beet plant in Wahpeton and assisted in legislative lobbying efforts on the state and national level. James was also instrumental in bringing ProGold and Dakota Growers Pasta Company to North Dakota. The Links commitment to students at NDSCS is evident with this scholarship that was started by their children in 2018. James passed away in May of 2016. James and Norma have eight children.

Jeff & Maxine Leinen Family Endowment

Jeff is a 1976 NDSCS Electrical Technology graduate and Maxine a 1975 NDSCS Distributive Education graduate. Jeff and Maxine are life-long Richland County, N.D. farmers and started this scholarship to give back to the ag community as they were blessed to farm for nearly 40 years. They both strongly believe in the education opportunities provided at NDSCS. Jeff is a current Alumni Foundation board member. Jeff and Maxine have two children and six grandchildren.

John & Margaret Wall Endowment

John Wall was a high school English and Journalism instructor from 1970-2004. He was a North Dakota State Representative from 2004-2014. John felt very lucky to be able to spend much of his working life with the many wonderful students he had the opportunity to teach. Margaret was employed at NDSCS from 1974-2013. During her tenure, she was an instructor in the Business Division, Cooperative Education Coordinator, Distance Education Director and Dean of Extended Learning. This scholarship is established in memory of John who passed away in July of 2014.

John & Alyce B. Travers Endowment

John and Alyce Travers, from Western North Dakota, left in their estate dollars to benefit students in North Dakota and South Dakota. They also left mineral rights to the college. This endowment will continue to grow each year as long as the mineral rights are available.

Jorgenson Brothers Endowment

Leonard Jorgensen from the Stanley, N.D., area choose to start an endowment in honor of his brother, Kermit Jorgensen, a 1950’s alumni, in the Agriculture Program. Leonard decided to name the scholarship after them together to help students In the Agriculture area.They believe in education and giving back to those that helped them.

Kosel Family Ag Land Lab Scholarship

Richard and Mary Kosel started farming north of Wahpeton in 1947. Their only child, Linda, grew up working on the farm helping with crop production and their dairy feed lot operation. Richard passed away in 2013. In 2018, Mary and Linda donated 94 acres and started the Kosel Family Land Lab, which is designed to promote “hands-on” learning for Ag students at NDSCS. A portion of the crop proceeds from the Land Lab help fund this scholarship.

Larry & Jeanette Miller Family Endowment

Jeanette Miller is a 1966 graduate of the Secretarial Program. Larry is a 1962 graduate of General Mechanics. Jeanette is a past Foundation Board member and Alumna of the Year in 2012. Larry and Jeanette lived and farmed on the family farm that Larry grew up on and their son and his family live and farm there now. They are great supporters of NDSCS and the Dreams Auction fundraising event.

Leo & Catherine Yaggie Endowment

Leo and Catherine Yaggie were successful farmers from Breckenridge, Minn. They had seven children. They received the Family Tradition award in 2000.

Lyle Warner Endowment

Lyle Warner was the first instructor in the NDSCS Ag Business Department. He worked in this department from 1976-1982, but taught in the Agriculture field for 35 years. He was in the military and served two terms in Vietnam. This scholarship was started by former students, friends and family after Lyle’s passing in January 2019. Lyle and his wife Pat, have two children and four grandchildren.

Mark Yaggie Endowment

Mark Yaggie was the son of Dave and Jeri Yaggie. Mark farmed with his dad in Breckenridge, Minn.; was an avid airplane enthusiast and a gifted mechanic and innovator. Family, faith, farming and flying were his passions. Mark passed away in 2017 at age 41 and leaves behind three sons.

Mullenberg Family Scholarship Endowment

Duane and Gene, brothers, started this scholarship because both attended NDSCS. Their father, along with Duane’s two daughters, Marie and Laura, and Duane’s son-in-law also attended NDSCS. Jeff Wede Duane’s grandson is a 2003 alum and currently manages the family farm where Duane and Gene grew up. Workforce is important to the Mullenberg family and they see this scholarship as a great way to give back and pay it forward.

Progressive Ag Scholarship

Progressive Ag was founded by Ray Grabanski and Dave Hankey, who now serve as President and Vice President, respectively. Progressive Ag began in 1992, specializing in helping farmers prosper by offering farm risk management services. Their expertise in providing insurance services and marketing plans have helped their customers thrive. They have continuously exceeded their mission “to provide farms with a marketing plan to capture prices in the top onhalf of the market while reducing risk”. Progressive Ag is offering this scholarship to promote the education of future farmers and ranchers in the area, seeing the value that these individuals will have in the years to come.

Richardson Family Ag Endowment

Bill and Betty Richardson have been friends of NDSCS for many years. Bill was parade Grand Marshal in 1972 and Bill and Betty were Wildcats of the Year in 1987. This is a way of saying thanks to the College for making Wahpeton a better community to live and work in.

Selmer J. Lodahl Endowment

Selmer “Sammy” Lodahl was an Abercrombie, N.D. native. He passed away in August of 2017. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed working on his tractors and plows long after retirement. Selmer generously gifted this endowment to NDSCS in his will.

Terry Goerger Scholarship Endowment

Terry Goerger is a 1974 NDSCS Alum. He has served on the Alumni Foundation Board and is passionate about helping students achieve their educational goals. Terry wants to help the next generation, especially in the areas of nursing and agriculture, as both fields need quality workers to fill needs now and in the future. Terry quotes “I am interested in helping our workforce and having nurses to take care of me in my senior years.”

The Kosel Family Ag Endowment

Richard and Mary Kosel started farming north of Wahpeton in 1947. Their only child, Linda, grew up helping on the farm with crop production and working in the dairy feed lot operation. Richard passed away in 2013. In 2018 Mary and Linda donated the use of 94 acres and started the Kosel Family Land Lab. The lab provides hands-on experience for students from planting to harvest. A portion of the crop proceeds, along with a donation from the Kosel Family have funded this endowment.

Byron J. Hannay was a successful businessman in Otter Tail County. He passed away in 1984 and his wife, Ruth, passed away in 2007. Byron did not attend college, but was impressed with the work ethic of the students and faculty of NDSCS.

Don & Kay Fulp Family Scholarship Endowment

Don was one of the first instructors to recognize the potential of computer technology and implement the use of computers in the classroom. Kay was an instructor in the Math and Science Department for 22 years. She also served on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. They have two children. Kay passed away in 2016 and Don in 2000.

Dwight G. Hoxie/Robinson Brothers Endowment

Robert G. Robinson of St. Paul, Minn. established this scholarship in 1993. He was a University of Minnesota agronomist. Dwight G. Hoxie was a farmer and doctor who moved to Richland County to 1905.

John & Alyce B. Travers Endowment

John and Alyce Travers, from Western North Dakota, left in their estate dollars to benefit students in North Dakota and South Dakota. They also left mineral rights to the college. This endowment will continue to grow each year as long as the mineral rights are available.

Joshua is a 2002 NDSCS graduate in Liberal Arts; he continued his education to receive his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Tracy is a Nurse Practitioner. Joshua and Tracy started this scholarship to give back and to encourage students to stay in the community.

Orville Hoger is a 1967 NDSCS Automotive Technology graduate. Orville worked as a farm equipment mechanic for 13 years and security officer for 18 years and is now retired. He received an excellent education at NDSCS and wanted to give back to future NDSCS graduates. They started this scholarship in 2020. Orville & Jo are both lifelong N.D. residents.

William J. & Mary Anne Grosz Endowment

Dr. William Grosz is a dedicated friend of NDSCS and helped to bring the Pharmacy Technician Program to campus. He and his wife, Mary Ann, established this scholarship in support of the Allied Health Programs at NDSCS. Bill served on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education.

D&M Industries was incorporated in 1982 and provides doors, frames, millwork, cabinets and windows throughout the United States. They have locations in Moorhead, Minn. and Bismarck, N.D. They believe in the education and skilled workforce that NDSCS provides.

JLG Architects, originally based in Grand Forks, was voted the fastest growing architecture firm by Inc. Magazine and has been in business since 1988. JLG started this scholarship to show support for students entering the Architectural program.

Marvin Windows and Doors, a Warroad, Minn. based business is the world’s largest manufacturer of made-to-order window and door products. Marvin Windows has been a supporter of NDSCS since 1988.

Mid America Steel Inc. is a leader in specialized metal fabrication. Since 1905, they have been providing superior steel products to help build the infrastructure of America. They are an employee-owned company with a long history of giving back to communities in which they live and work.

Northland Truss Systems Inc. Endowment

This scholarship was given in memory of Richard Pierce, a 1977 NDSCS Architectural Drafting graduate who passed away in 2003. Richard “Rick” started Northland Truss in 1992. His wife continued on as President of the company after his death and carried on his love of the construction industry. She sold the company in 2014, but Northland Truss continues to honor this scholarship.

Parsons Electric, established in 1927, has long history of supporting communities. Myron J. Koppang worked at NDSCS for 31 years. He was an instructor, Dean of the Business Division and later as VP of Business Affairs. He was a Scoutmaster for 23 years and very involved in his church and community. Myron was the 1999 NDSCS Wildcat of the Year.

Vanessa E. (Ouse) Grindberg Memorial Scholarship

Vanessa E. Ouse-Grindberg, Rothsay, Minn. native, graduated from NDSCS in 1982. She passed away in 2002 at the age of 39. Her husband, Tony, is also a NDSCS alumni who started this memorial in her memory. Tony was the 2005 Alumnus of the Year.

Vernon & Leona Hektner Endowment

Vernon Hektner was a 1941 NDSCS graduate. He starting teaching History at NDSCS in 1946. In 1956, he became Dean of the Arts and Science Division and held this position for 26 years, retiring in 1984. He was the 1993 Alumnus of the Year. Leona worked at the Richland County Courthouse as the Deputy County Treasurer and later as Richland Auditor. Vernon and Leona had four children. Vernon passed away in 2010 and Leona in 2017.

Bob Yaggie joined the staff at NDSCS in 1966 as an instructor in Economics and was Assistant Football Coach under Skip Bute. He was the 1977 Alumnus of the Year.

Earl "Skip" Bute Athletic Endowment

Earl “Skip” Bute served NDSCS for 42 years – as an instructor, coach and Athletic Director. He was named “Small College Coach of the Year” in 1965, an honor he was very proud to receive. Earl retired in 1966 and pass away in 1988. The NDSCS stadium is named in his honor.

Ed Werre Basketball Endowment

Ed Werre was a 1942 graduate of NDSCS. He was employed at NDSCS in 1949 as Head Basketball Coach, Track Coach and Assistant Football Coach. He was appointed Athletic Director in 1965. Ed retired in 1981 after 31 years at NDSCS and was the 1984 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. He passed away in 2003.

Gordon "Pat" Patterson Athletic Scholarship

Gordon was a 1938 NDSCS graduate in Accounting. He played football and was captain for two years. Gordan was an instructor for the Business Division and Assistant Coach for Skip Bute. He retired in 1978 as VP of Business Affairs. Gordon met his wife, Grace, while attending NDSCS. Gordon and Grace were the 2001 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals. Gordon passed away in 2012.

Jeff & JoAnn Dietz Endowment

Jeff and JoAnn Dietz both attended NDSCS. Jo continued her education at NDSU earning a degree in Math. Jeff is a 1969 Pre-Engineering Graduate. He played basketball and still holds the single game rebounding record. He was inducted into the NDSCS Hall of Fame in 2004. Jeff went on to graduate from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he played basketball, again setting individual rebounding records. Jeff retired from Chicago Bridge and Iron after 41 plus years. He also served in the US Army Reserve for 28 years concurrently, retiring as a LtCol in the Army Corps of Engineers. Jo retired from teaching math and science. They have stayed connected to NDSCS serving on the Catbacker/Letterwinner board and attending events. They are passionate about NDSCS and have started this endowment to show their support for NDSCS students, especially those that represent as student athletes.

Owen “OJ” Jensen, a Pekin, N.D. native, was an instructor in the Business Administration/ Management Department until his death in 2002. Duane Ballweber was a 1952 Auto Body Repair and Refinishing graduate and 1951 Homecoming King. He met his wife, Delfena, a 1951 Secretarial graduate, while attending NDSCS. Duane was an instructor at the college until his death in 1985. The Ballweber family established a memorial scholarship in his honor. All of Duane’s children have close ties to NDSCS. Jerry Schock graduated with honors in 1977 from Auto Body Repair and Refinishing. He was president of the Auto Body Club both years he attended NDSCS. He and his wife, Julie, set up this scholarship in appreciation of the Auto Body Trade.

Gene graduated from the Auto Mechanics program at NDSSS in 1973. After working at two different dealerships in Aberdeen and Bismarck, he retuned to NDSCS in 1981 as an instructor. This scholarship was given in memory of Richard Pierce, a 1977 NDSCS Architectural Drafting graduate who passed away in 2003. Richard “Rick” started Northland Truss in 1992. His wife continued on as President of the company after his death and carried on his love of the construction industry. She sold the company in 2014, but Northland Truss continues to honor this scholarship.

Parsons Electric, established in 1927, has long history of supporting communities. Red Murphy Endowment

The Red Murphy Endowment was established in 2018 by his wife Sheila. Red was a lifelong resident of the Killdeer area and a third generation rancher. His son now operates the ranch after Red’s passing in 1994. Neither Red nor Sheila were NDSCS graduates, but believe that the trades offered at NDSCS can help the workforce needs in their community and western N.D. Red and Sheila have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Roger & Donna Hentges Endowment

Roger graduated from NDSSS in 1962 in Industrial Drafting and Design. He was hired out of college by Mid America Steel and is still a consultant there today. He has recruited and hired many “Science” grads. Roger and his wife, Donna, share a strong passion for NDSCS.

Woody & Connie Caspers Scholarship Endowment

Woody and Connie Caspers have been long-time supporters of NDSCS. Woody served as the Alumni Foundation Director for 14 years beginning in 1996. He also volunteered on many boards, including the NDSCS Alumni Foundation, was the Alumnus of the Year, Parade Grand Marshal, and Booster of the Year. Woody passed away in January of 2021. Connie remains a strong advocate for NDSCS and continues to support the Foundation. Woody and Connie are well known for their service, support, and generosity to others.

Ann & Richard Smith Endowment

Ann is a NDSCS Associate Professor in Business Administration and Management. Richie formed the law firm of Smith and Strege and was an attorney in Wahpeton from 1977 until his retirement in 2013. Richie served on the N.D. State Board of Higher Education from 2005-2012. Both were very active in the Wahpeton-Breckenridge community. After Richie’s passing in 2020, memorials were directed to this endowment to promote education.

Bank of the West Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2005 to financially help students in the banking/finance program.

Bob & Dayle Dietz Memorial Endowment

Dayle Dietz received her bachelors and masters degrees in education later in life. She was the department chair of Marketing and Management at NDSCS and taught business classes from 1970-1997. Dayle was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1979-1982.

Bernice Cunningham/Rustad Memorial Endowment

Bernice Cunningham attended NDSCS and UND and received her Masters Degree in Business in 1966. She also served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bernie passed away in 2003.

Byron & Ruth Hannay Memorial Endowment

Byron J. Hannay was a successful businessman in Otter Tail County. He passed away in 1984 and his wife, Ruth, passed away in 2007. Byron did not attend college, but was impressed with the work ethic of the students and faculty of NDSCS.

Elmer & Wynne Hendrickson Scholarship

Elmer, Wynne and their three sons farmed north of Breckenridge, Minn. In 1970, Elmer retired from farming and attended NDSSS, receiving his Accounting degree in 1973. He was Wahpeton City Assessor until his second retirement in 1990. Elmer passed away in 2002 and Wynne in 2019. They both strongly believed in the educational values and learning experiences that NDSCS has to offer.

Gerry Beck Memorial Endowment

Gerry moved to Wahpeton in 1974. He founded Tri-State Aviation Inc. Gerry had a lifetime love for airplanes and restored Warbirds. He passed away while performing at an air show in Oshkosh, Wisc. His wife, Cindy Schreiber-Beck and daughter Whitney started this scholarship in his honor.

Gette Family Endowment

Robert Gette and his son, David, started this scholarship in memory of their wife and mother, Mary Gette. Mary worked in the banking industry for 25 years and was active in her community. David is a 1985 NDSCS graduate in Business Administration. Robert worked at NDSCS for 37 years, first as a Business instructor, then as Dean of the Arts, Science and Business Division and finally as VP of Academic Affairs. Robert and Mary have two children and five grandchildren.

John & Margaret Wall Endowment

John Wall was a high school English and Journalism instructor from 1970-2004. He was a North Dakota State Representative from 2004-2014. John felt very lucky to be able to spend much of his working life with the many wonderful students he had the opportunity to teach. Margaret was employed at NDSCS from 1974-2013. During her tenure, she was an instructor in the Business Division, Cooperative Education Coordinator, Distance Education Director and Dean of Extended Learning. This scholarship is established in memory of John who passed away in July of 2014.

Larry & Dyan Haugen Endowment

Larry Haugen attended NDSCS for Computer Info Sciences in 1970 and went onto become an instructor in the Computer program department at NDSCS. Larry received a scholarship when he attended NDSCS and felt this was a great way to give back to future students.

Larry & Ardeith Richter Family Endowment

The Larry Richter Memorial Scholarship was started when he passed away in 2004. In 2017, the Ardeith and Larry Richter Family Endowment was established. Ardeith received her A.A. degree at NDSCS, bachelor’s degree in Bus. Ed. at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and master’s degree from UND. Larry graduated with his bachelor’s in Bus. Ed. from Ellendale, ND, and a master’s degree from UND. He was an instructor and the Accounting Department Chair at NDSCS for 28 years. Ardeith was an instructor in the Business Division at NDSCS for 27 years. Both were very active in church and community activities. They have two sons, Michael and Jason, who are both graduates of NDSCS. They have two grandsons, Radin and Landis. Ardeith was the 2021 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.

Montana-Dakota Utilities was established in 1924. They are a diversified natural resources company based in Bismarck, N.D. and supply service to Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. MDU Resources Scholarship

OJ Jensen Academic/Athletic Endowment

Owen “OJ” Jensen, a Pekin, N.D. native, was an instructor in the Business Administration/ Management Department until his death in 2002. He started the women’s basketball program and coached men’s track and cross country until it’s final season in 2002. OJ and his wife, Dee, were Wildcats of the Year in 2002. Dee was the NDSCS Women’s Track coach and an instructor in the Secretarial/Business Department. She resides in Wahpeton and still very active in track and field to this day.

Palmer J. Score Endowment

Lou Score of Kensington, Minn. established this scholarship in 1992 in honor of her husband and 1941 alumnus, Palmer Score. Palmer started his banking career as a cashier and later became the owner and CEO at Kensington. Palmer grew up and graduated from Wahpeton High School. Lou and Palmer’s son Pryce continues to share his father’s passion for NDSCS. Palmer was named the 1985 Alumnus of the Year.

Sylvia Allender Memorial Endowment

Sylvia F. Allender is a 1937 NDSCS graduate with a Business Degree. She moved to Washington DC and had a career in Government in 1979. She married at age 61 and established this scholarship in 2008.

William is a 1957 NDSSS graduate of Liberal Arts. He joined the Navy and retired as a Commander after 22 years. In 1972, he completed his Masters in Industrial Relations and spent 20 years in the business world. Mabel A. Johnson Memorial Endowment

Mabel A. Johnson was a 1937 NDSCS graduate and was a cook at NDSCS for almost 30 years. Mabel loved her job. This scholarship was given by her family in her memory. Her granddaughter, Paige, currently works for NDSCS.

Mary Uhren Scholarship Endowment

Mary enrolled as an NDSCS student in 1981, graduating in 1983 from the Culinary Arts program. Prior to joining NDSCS as an instructor, Mary worked at various restaurants, catering, and baking. Mary retired from NDSCS in July of 2019 after 33 years of dedicated service. Charles Hegel was a 1967 NDSSS graduate of Electronics and Valeria was a 1961 graduate of Office Administration. Both were employed at NDSCS – Charles in the Instructional Resources Department for 29 years and Valeria in the Trades and Admissions and Dental Department for many years. Charles and Valeria have two daughters and four grandchildren. Charles passed away in 2015.

Dr. Delos Halvorson Memorial Endowment

Dr. Delos Halvorson was a 1940 graduate of Liberal Arts. He had a dental practice in Wahpeton until his retirement in 1975. He received the NDSCS Alumnus of the Year award in 1974. He passed away in 1985. His wife, Rose, established this scholarship in his memory in 1986.

Dr. Ken Weidman Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Ken Weidman practiced dentistry in Breckenridge, Minn., until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, he continued to work as a Clinical Instructor for the NDSCS Dental Hygiene Program. Dr. Weidman passed away in April 2018 and his family started this scholarship in his memory. He is survived by his wife, Rena, and four children.

Robert G. Robinson of St. Paul, Minn. established this scholarship in 1993. He was a University of Minnesota agronomist. Dwight G. Hoxie was a farmer and doctor who moved to Richland County to 1905.

Ed & Fran Werre Family Endowment

The Werre family started this endowment in 2014 to benefit students in the Dental Assisting Program. Several family members are employed in the dental/orthodontist field. Fran Werre, mother, was a long-time teacher in the Wahpeton area and her husband, Ed, was employed at NDSCS for 31 years and passed away in 2003. Fran passed away in 2020.

Gloria (Traynor) Helms Endowment

Gloria Helms is a 1947 NDSSS graduate in Office Administration. She was named Alumna of the Year in 1995 and has been a strong advocate of the college. Gloria feels that her scholarship is a great way to give back to the college and help students who share her passion. Gloria passed away in 2020.

Jean Freden Dental CRDTS Scholarship

Jean Freden was a Dental Hygiene instructor at NDSCS for 41 years. She retired in 2009 and stays active in her community of Wahpeton. Jean is a proud supporter of NDSCS Alumni and Athletics.

Muriel Wicks Memorial Endowment

The North Dakota Dental Association established this scholarship in memory of Dr. Muriel P. Wicks to provide financial aid to worthy recipients.

North Dakota Dental Assisting Scholarship

The North Dakota Dental Foundation, founded in 1986, promotes and fosters dental health awareness. Offering grant opportunities and in-kind services for programs, their purpose and vision is to create lasting oral health initiatives to assist the under-served population. They also promote Dental Assistant careers, a high-demand job, by offering a scholarship to an NDSCS student in the Dental Assisting program.

The Susan Caspers Scholarship was established in 2020 by her husband after her passing in 2019. Sue was a Richland County native, a 1974 NDSCS graduate in the Dental Hygiene program, and proud of her NDSCS education. Sue worked for many years in that field before joining the family business. Chris Maier Family Endowment

Betty and her husband, Chris Maier, started this scholarship in honor of their son, James Maier. When Chris passed in 2007, Betty continued to fund the scholarship. In 2014, they renamed the scholarship the Chris Maier Family Endowment. Betty lives on the family farm in central North Dakota. Chris was a 1953 alumni of NDSCS in Diesel and worked for Union Pacific most of his life.

Derke/Kemper Memorial Endowment

Mr. Arnold Derke and Mr. Jerrold Kemper were long-time instructors in the Diesel Technology Department at NDSCS. This scholarship was established in 1996.

Don Yaggie and Tom Kotnour were long-time friends, solid leaders in the community and strong believers in education. Tom received the Friend of the College award in 2003, he passed away in 2010. Together they started this scholarship as supporters of NDSCS.

Ernest & Ruth Buchholz Endowment

Ernest and Ruth Buchholz were farmers in the Casselton area for 61 years. They encouraged the pursuit of career education. Ernie and Ruth passed away in 2012.

John E. Brandt Endowment

John was a 1963 Automotive Technology alumni. His wife, Mary Lobb, started this scholarship in his honor in 2012. Mary currently lives in Texas.

Lorentz "Swede" Johnson & Ione (Johnson) Muralt Endowment

Lorentz “Swede” Johnson was a 1956 NDSCS Auto Mechanics graduate. He taught diesel mechanics and was the department chair of the Diesel program at NDSCS for 18 years. Ione is a 1957 NDSCS graduate of the Secretarial program. This scholarship was established in 1982 to give back to deserving students; just as he very much appreciated receiving scholarhips while he was a student at NDSSS. Swede passed away in 1991.

Mullenberg Family Scholarship Endowment

Duane and Gene, brothers, started this scholarship because both attended NDSCS. Their father, along with Duane’s two daughters, Marie and Laura, and Duane’s son-in-law also attended NDSCS. Jeff Wede Duane’s grandson is a 2003 alum and currently manages the family farm where Duane and Gene grew up. Workforce is important to the Mullenberg family and they see this scholarship as a great way to give back and pay it forward.

North American Coal-Falkirk Mine Scholarship

The Falkirk Coal Mine started this annual scholarship in 2018 to give back to Diesel Technology students at NDSCS. The Falkirk mine has been in operation in Underwood, N.D. for more than forty years.

North Dakota Agriculture Association Scholarship

The NDAA’s mission is to improve the Agri-Business communities they serve and support education as it relates to a better understanding of computer diagnostics and auto guidance systems within diesel technology.

Alliance Pipeline Endowment

Alliance Pipeline, established in 1996, built a pipeline from NE British Columbia to Chicago. They transport 1.6 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas from NE British Columbia, to New Alberta, through north central North Dakota and ending in Illinois, the heart of the U.S. Midwest. They established this scholarship in 2003.

Ben York Memorial Endowment

Ben York graduated from NDSCS in 1938 in Electrical Technology. He went onto have a 57 year career in the Plumbing, HVAC/R and Electrical business and attributes his success to his education at NDSCS. Ben and his wife, Verna, had two children.

Brian H. Buchholtz Endowment

Brian graduated from NDSCS in 1975 with an Electronic Technology degree and in 1976 with an Electrical Technology degree. He was hired right out of college by Minnkota Power Cooperative in Grand Forks, N.D. Brian then spent three years at Ecolab in Las Vegas before returning to MinnKota to accept a position in Safety Training and Administration. Brian attributes his education at NDSCS to his success in both careers. Brian and his wife, Carla, are lifelong North Dakota residents and have two children.

David W. Tanberg Endowment

David was a 1961 graduate in the Electrical program, and met his wife, Joann, while attending NDSCS. Within eight years of graduation, he started his own company in western N.D. which grew into one of the premier electrical contractors in the region. He cherished his time at NDSCS and always believed in paying it forward. David’s family started this scholarship in his memory in 2020. David passed away in 2005.

The N.D. Use Council established this scholarship in 2000 to provide financial assistance to deserving and talented students in the electrical technology field.

Gary Welharticky Endowment

Gary is a 1974 NDSCS Electrical Technology graduate and a 1978 NDSCS Pre-Engineering graduate. His degrees have served him well in his long career with Ottertail Power Company, and he wanted to give back to the college. Gary is retired and he and his wife, Florence, live in Minnesota.

Harold B. Wright Endowment

Harold B. Wright was a NDSCS 1934 graduate of Electrical Technology. He established this scholarship in appreciation of the education he received.

Interstates Electric Engineering Endowment

Interstates Electric and Engineering Co. is an electrical engineering and construction firm based in Sioux Center, Iowa. This scholarship was started in 1996 because they are impressed with the NDSCS electrical graduates.

Jerry Gilsdorf Endowment

Jerry is a 1981 Electrical Technology graduate. He participated in NDSSS’s Delta Psi Omega national drama organization chapter. He was the chapter president in 1980-81 and won several drama awards.

Julian Berg Endowment

Julian was a 1961 graduate of the NDSCS Electrical Technology program. He was an instructor at NDSCS from 1965-1973 and again in 1982 until his death at the age of 44. This scholarship was established in 1985.

Lottie (Wolf) Karns & Shirley (Wolf) Schmidt Endowment

Kermit B. Karns established this scholarship in 2001 in memory of his wife, Lottie (Wolf) Karns who passed away in 1999 and his step daughter, Shirley (Wolf) Schmidt who passed away in 1992.

NDSCS Electrical Technology Partnership with Industry Endowment

In 1997 the NDSCS Electrical Department partnered with industry to start a scholarship that would benefit student scholarships. 62 partners came together to raise over $40,000 in funds. Some of those funds were used to meet immediate needs and some was invested to start an Endowment. The Endowment started awarding electrical scholarships in 2002.

Nels Anderson Memorial Endowment

Nels C. Anderson was a 1949 Electrical Technology graduate. His wife, Fern, started a memorial scholarship in his name because he thought so much of NDSCS. The memorial scholarship was established in 1994.

North Dakota State Electrical Board

The N.D. State Electrical Board examines and issues licenses to those having the necessary qualifications and knowledge in the laws of electricity and electrical codes. To promote education in the Electrical Program, they are awarding scholarships to students that meet their criteria requirements.

North Dakota Telephone Association Endowment

The North Dakota Telephone Association created this scholarship in 1973 to promote students entering the field of telecommunications.

PEC Solutions LLC Scholarship

Parsons Electric, established in 1927, has long history of supporting communities. They are committed to serving others to foster growth and to make an impact while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. This scholarship will assist students pursing an education in one of three high-demand areas where quality workers are needed.

Red Murphy Endowment

The Red Murphy Endowment was established in 2018 by his wife Sheila. Red was a lifelong resident of the Killdeer area and a third generation rancher. His son now operates the ranch after Red’s passing in 1994. Neither Red nor Sheila were NDSCS graduates, but believe that the trades offered at NDSCS can help the workforce needs in their community and western N.D. Red and Sheila have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Leo Seeba graduated from NDSSS in 1973 with an Electrical degree and in 1974 with an Electronic degree. Leo received scholarships while attending college and felt this was a great way to give back. G&R Controls, Inc, established in 1977, is an HVAC company with four locations in North Dakota and South Dakota.

Harrison “Harry” Toyne Memorial Scholarship

Harrison “Harry” Toyne attended NDSCS from 2016-2018 graduating from the HVAC/R Technology program. Harry passed tragically in a work-related accident in February of 2022. His family states that Harry had a contagious giggle, a big heart, and was loved by all who knew him. His family is honoring his memory with a scholarship that will benefit a second-year HVAC/R student.

Irv Moeller HVAC Endowment

Irv Moeller was an instructor at NDSCS for 30 years, retiring in 2001. This scholarship was created in his honor because he was instrumental in helping many students in their careers in the HVAC/ Refrigeration industry.

Roger Ust Family Scholarship Endowment

Roger Allen Ust graduated from Portland, N.D. He was raised on a farm by Clifford, N.D. graduating from NDSCS in 1968 with degrees in Sheet Metal and HVAC/R. He was hired prior to graduating by Central Exchange Co. where he worked until 1982, when he began Roger’s Heating and Cooling. Roger was very successful in his business until his sudden death in 2004. His daughter Holly also attended NDSCS (1991) and shares her father’s love of the college. Roger and his wife of 36 years, Joy had two children, Holly and Melanie and resided in Finley, N.D. Roger’s family is proud of NDSCS and would like to support future students pursuing an HVAC/R degree.

Roy Hackney Memorial Endowment

Roy G. Hackney was an instructor in the AC/Refrigeration Department at NDSCS from 19571984. He passed away in 1993. This scholarship was established in 1994 by the NDSCS AC/ Refrigeration Department in his memory.

Spenser & Lola Hokenson Endowment

Ed Hokenson, a 1961 Liberal Arts NDSSS graduate, transferred to UND and attained a degree in Marketing. He started the Spenser and Lola Hokenson Scholarship in memory of his parents. Spenser Hokenson was an instructor at NDSSS for 34 years in the Environmental Systems Department. He attended NDSSS in 1941 and 1946 for sheet metal, aircraft sheet metal and refrigeration.

Jacob Malecha attended NDSCS in 2007-2008 in the John Deere program. He passed away in 2008 but had great passion for farming, John Deere and his time at NDSCS.

John Deere Construction & Forestry Scholarship

The John Deere Construction Division includes construction equipment used in earth moving, road building, site development and residential construction. John Deere Forestry equipment is used in full-tree and cut to length harvesting operations and in mill yards in the U.S. and overseas. Scholarships are available to support interested students.

John Deere Company Partnership Scholarship

John Deere and Co. is an American corporation that manufactures agricultural machinery, diesel engines and lawn care equipment. The John Deere Foundation designed this scholarship to recruit the next generation to carry on the John Deere tradition of integrity, quality and commitment.

Louis Jahner Endowment

Louis Jahner was a student in the John Deere Tech program at NDSCS. He was killed in a car crash during his 2nd year. Classmates and instructors developed this scholarship in his name.

North Dakota John Deere Dealers Scholarship

The John Deere Career Partnership Program involves John Deere and its dealer network working closely with NDSCS to provide current equipment and product lines on campus. Scholarships are offered to help recruit and train qualified technicians.

Brosz Engineering, Inc. operates as a general consulting engineering practice, specializing in civil engineering, surveying and architectural services. Brosz has been providing services since 1982 and has ten locations in North and South Dakota.

Jesse Haugen Scholarship

This scholarship was created by Widseth Smith Nolting and Associates in memory of Jesse Haugen. Jesse was a 2001 NDSCS graduate of Civil Engineering and Land Surveying Technology. He started working at Widseth Smith Nolting and Associates in 2011 and continued to work there until his passing in 2018. He was a great employee, husband and father to his two children. He was known for his positive attitude, strong work ethic and dedication to work and family.

John Reber Memorial Endowment

John attended NDSCS in 1911 taking Civil Engineering. He farmed near Foxhome and worked as a Wilkin County Surveyor for several years. John was the 1982 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. This scholarship was started in 1986 in honor of John Reber who was an influential community member.

LeRoy A. Anderson Endowment

LeRoy Anderson was a 1964 NDSCS Land Survey and Civil Engineer graduate. He appreciated the education he received at NDSCS which set him on a great career path. He was a proud member of the N.D. Society of Professional Land Surveyors, NDSPLS. LeRoy was an Army veteran and passed away in 2019. He gifted this endowment to NDSCS in his will.

Natalie & Harold Bruschwein Endowment

Harold Bruschwein was a Civil Engineering instructor at NDSCS for 23 years. He was in the military and stationed in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked in WWII. This scholarship was established in 1987. Harold was the 1996 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. He passed away in 2018.

Dohman Family Endowment

Terry and Dr. Gloria Dohman established the Dohman Family Scholarship to assist local students in achieving their career goals and enrich their lives through higher education. Terry is a native of Campbell, Minn. and returned to the area to farm following college graduation and serving in the Air Force. Terry served on numerous boards and was President of the Board of Directors for Cenex and Harvest States. Gloria worked as an elementary librarian and library director before coming to NDSCS as a college librarian. Dr. Dohman served in various administrative roles during her 37 years at NDSCS, retiring as Associate Vice President Emerita. Gloria was also an adjunct professor at NDSU and a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission. They have two children and four grandchildren. Terry passed away in 2019.

Gary Reubish Memorial Scholarship

Gary R. Reubish, a 1969 NDSCS graduate of Architectural Drafting. Gary was a teacher at the Wahpeton High School. This scholarship was started by the Reubish family in Gary’s memory to encourage Wahpeton High School students to pursue their education at NDSCS.

Jeff & JoAnn Dietz Endowment

Jeff and JoAnn Dietz both attended NDSCS. Jo continued her education at NDSU earning a degree in Math. Jeff is a 1969 Pre-Engineering Graduate. He played basketball and still holds the single game rebounding record. He was inducted into the NDSCS Hall of Fame in 2004. Jeff went on to graduate from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he played basketball, again setting individual rebounding records. Jeff retired from Chicago Bridge and Iron after 41 plus years. He also served in the US Army Reserve for 28 years concurrently, retiring as a LtCol in the Army Corps of Engineers. Jo retired from teaching math and science. They have stayed connected to NDSCS serving on the Catbacker/Letterwinner board and attending events. They are passionate about NDSCS and have started this endowment to show their support for NDSCS students, especially those that represent as student athletes.

John Wall was a high school English and Journalism instructor from 1970-2004. He was a North Dakota State Representative from 2004-2014. John felt very lucky to be able to spend much of his working life with the many wonderful students he had the opportunity to teach. Margaret was employed at NDSCS from 1974-2013. During her tenure, she was an instructor in the Business Division, Cooperative Education Coordinator, Distance Education Director and Dean of Extended Learning. This scholarship is established in memory of John who passed away in July of 2014.

Bernard (Barney) T. Hilgers Scholarship

Bernard Hilgers was a 1946 graduate of NDSSS Sheet Metal program. He served in the US Army and then returned to Wahpeton to begin his 38-1/2 year career at NDSCS as a welding and machine tool and die instructor and as a career coordinator. Barney and his wife, Millie, were married for 63 years and had six children. Barney passed away in 2016.

Gene Haas Scholarship

The Gene Haas Foundation awards scholarships for machinist training to high schools, community colleges and trade schools. The primary goal of this Foundation is to build skills in the machining industry by providing scholarships for CNC machine technology students and NIMS credentials. Gene Haas is owner of Haas Automation, Inc., American’s leading builder of CNC machine tools, since 1983.

Gerry Beck Memorial Endowment

Gerry moved to Wahpeton in 1974. He founded Tri-State Aviation Inc. Gerry had a lifetime love for airplanes and restored Warbirds. He passed away while performing at an air show in Oshkosh, Wisc. His wife, Cindy Schreiber-Beck and daughter Whitney started this scholarship in his honor.

Horton Holding, Inc. is a premium provider of engine cooling solutions worldwide. They support scholarships for students in a manufacturing field.

Kevin Huelsman Scholarship

Kevin Huelsman is a 1992 Precision Machining Graduate. Kevin passed away in March of 2021, after a battle with cancer. He was a friend to many, enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and fishing with his father and family friends, was a skilled woodworker and loved to garden. Kevin’s family chose to honor his memory and kind heart by helping students at NDSCS through this tribute scholarship.

LeRoy Balstad Scholarship

The LeRoy Balstad Scholarship was established by his wife, Pat after LeRoy’s passing in 2018. LeRoy was a gifted machinist, carpenter, and inventor. He did not attend NDSCS, but he and his family believe in the importance of trade education. LeRoy and Pat were married 47 years, have two children, and nine grandchildren.

Precision Machine of Dickinson Endowment

Keith Huschka is a 1975 Machinist and Toolmaking graduate of NDSCS. He is the owner of Precision Machine and Welding, Inc. in Dickinson, N.D. Keith appreciated the education he received at NDSCS and wanted to give back by providing scholarships to students.

Shawn D. Faller Endowment

Deanna Faller started this scholarship in 2018 in memory of her husband, Shawn. Shawn and Deanna did not attend NDSCS, but Deanna was impressed with the NDSCS Welding department and our Workforce Partnerships. Shawn worked at Weisgram Metal Fabrication in West Fargo his entire career. Shawn passed away on September 4, 2016 at the age of 41 from cancer. He and Deanna had three daughters.

Arvin and Jeanette are from Devils Lake, N.D. They were small grain and cattle farmers for 30 years before retiring in 1988. They established this scholarship after seeing their neighbor’s son succeed in his career choice of Construction Management at NDSCS. They are very impressed with the education and leadership at NDSCS. Add Arvin passed away in 2021.

Barb Diederick Nursing Endowment

Barb Diederick, a long-time Nursing Instructor at NDSCS retired in 2020. She served as instructor and then Department Chair, retiring after 39 years at NDSCS. Barb started building her endowment through payroll deduction while employed. A dedicated employee, Barb was instrumental in moving the Nursing Department forward with the RN and PN programs now available. Her continued support for the nursing program through her scholarship legacy will leave a lasting gift to many future nursing graduates.

C. Hasty Legacy/ACS Endowment

Clayton and Ethel Hasty were lifelong residents of Tyler, N.D. in Summit Township. Both attended NDSCS.

Charles & Valeria Hegel Endowment

Charles Hegel was a 1967 NDSSS graduate of Electronics and Valeria was a 1961 graduate of Office Administration. Both were employed at NDSCS – Charles in the Instructional Resources Department for 29 years and Valeria in the Trades and Admissions and Dental Department for many years. Charles and Valeria have two daughters and four grandchildren. Charles passed away in 2015.

Charles W. & Joan F. Hardie Endowment

The Charles W. and Joan F. Hardie scholarship was established in 2018 by Charlie’s wife, Joan and his daughter, Wanda Mauch. Charlie was a life-long farmer and even after retirement, helped farm families through the Farm Rescue Organization. Charlie and Joan moved to Wahpeton, N.D. in 2010 and enjoyed being involved with family and community activities. Charlie passed away in 2017. Charles and Joan have six children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dwight G. Hoxie/Robinson Brothers Endowment

Robert G. Robinson of St. Paul, Minn. established this scholarship in 1993. He was a University of Minnesota agronomist. Dwight G. Hoxie was a farmer and doctor who moved to Richland County to 1905.

Ernest & Ruth Buchholz Endowment

Ernest and Ruth Buchholz were farmers in the Casselton area for 61 years. They encouraged the pursuit of career education. Ernie and Ruth passed away in 2012.

Florence I. Lane Endowment

Florence I. Lane graduated with honors from the LPN program at NDSCS in 1971 and worked in the field for 27 years. Florence passed away in 2008 and had eight children.

Gary Reubish Memorial Scholarship

Gary R. Reubish, a 1969 NDSCS graduate of Architectural Drafting. Gary was a teacher at the Wahpeton High School. This scholarship was started by the Reubish family in Gary’s memory to encourage Wahpeton High School students to pursue their education at NDSCS.

John Reber Memorial Endowment

John attended NDSCS in 1911 taking Civil Engineering. He farmed near Foxhome and worked as a Wilkin County Surveyor for several years. John was the 1982 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. This scholarship was started in 1986 in honor of John Reber who was an influential community member.

John & Alyce B. Travers Endowment

John and Alyce Travers, from Western North Dakota, left in their estate dollars to benefit students in North Dakota and South Dakota. They also left mineral rights to the college. This endowment will continue to grow each year as long as the mineral rights are available.

Joshua & Tracy Dozak Endowment

Joshua is a 2002 NDSCS graduate in Liberal Arts; he continued his education to receive his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Tracy is a Nurse Practitioner. Joshua and Tracy started this scholarship to give back and to encourage students to stay in the community.

Louise Manock Miller Endowment

Louise Manock Miller was a 1963 graduate of NDSCS Nursing Program. Her husband, Thomas, established this scholarship in 2014 to support students that possess the same passion, commitment and dedication of the profession that Louise was so proud of and aptly represented. Louise passed away in 2009 but always had a passionate love of nursing.

Mallie Ann Breuer Endowment

This scholarship was established to honor of the life of Mallie Breuer who passed away in September of 2011 as a result of a motorcycle accident, at the age of 25. She graduated from NDSCS in 2011 with a degree in Practical Nursing. The scholarship is to acknowledge a young person who is committed to community and service and strives to love others as Mallie did.

Marjorie E. Henderson Endowment

Dr. Marjorie E. Henderson was a medical doctor for 30 years, 10 years in Wahpeton, N.D. She passed away from cancer in 2008. Her husband, Harvey, was an instructor in Social and Behavioral Science at NDSCS. They have two sons, Donald and Christopher.

Phyllis (Hagen) Kotnour Memorial Endowment

The Phyllis Hagen Kotnour scholarship was established in 2003 by her daughter, Paige, and husband, Tom to promote and encourage enrollment to incoming students. Phyllis passed away in 2002 after a short battle with leukemia and Tom passed away in 2010.

Ruth (Sargeant) Hodgson Memorial Endowment

Ruth Sargeant Hodgson was a County Health Nurse. Ruth, at the encouragement of her son Richard, helped establish and head up NDSCS original Practical Nursing program. Her son, Richard, attended NDSCS and was an instructor in Journalism.

Selmer J. Lodahl Endowment

Selmer “Sammy” Lodahl was an Abercrombie, N.D. native. He passed away in August of 2017. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed working on his tractors and plows long after retirement. Selmer generously gifted this endowment to NDSCS in his will.

Sharon E. (Lankford) Hoskins Endowment

Sharon Lankford Hoskins was a 1968 Practical Nursing graduate of NDSCS and worked in the field for many years. Sharon’s husband, Tom, set up this scholarship after she passed away in 2017. Tom’s military career took them to the Philippines Islands, Hawaii, South Dakota and Nebraska, finally settling in Missouri. Tom and Sharon have two children and three grandchildren and were married for 43 years.

Tom & Jean Madsen Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a tribute to Tom, Jean’s husband of nearly 63 years, who passed away in October of 2021. Jean attended NDSCS earning her Practical Nursing degree in 1960. Her career spanned nearly 50 years between Dakota Hospital and the Arthur Good Samaritan Nursing home. Tom wanted to attend NDSCS for Electronics but was drafted into the Navy for four years. When he returned home, he began working. Tom was known as a kind and helpful neighbor and friend and this scholarship honors his memory while helping NDSCS students further their education.

Terry Goerger Scholarship Endowment

Terry Goerger is a 1974 NDSCS Alum. He has served on the Alumni Foundation Board and is passionate about helping students achieve their educational goals. Terry wants to help the next generation, especially in the areas of nursing and agriculture, as both fields need quality workers to fill needs now and in the future. Terry quotes “I am interested in helping our workforce and having nurses to take care of me in my senior years.”

Bernard Haugen was a municipal Judge in Richland County. Jean Haugen was an Occupational Therapy Instructor for 20 years and is considered the founder of the OTA program at NDSCS. They lost both of their children in 1981 and 1983 in a car accident and snowmobile accident. Bernie and Jean died as a result of a car accident in 1990.

Bernice Cunningham attended NDSCS and UND and received her Masters Degree in Business in 1966. She also served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bernie passed away in 2003.

James A. Horton Music Endowment

James A. Horton was a 1946 graduate of the Refrigeration and AC program at NDSCS. He was an instructor at NDSCS and retired in 1981 as VP of Academic Affairs. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church choir, Wahpeton. He and his wife, Marcelle had four children. James passed away in 2007.

Sherven Family Endowment

Charles Sherven is a 1997 NDSCS Liberal Arts graduate and participated in the NDSCS Choir and Wildcat Singers programs. He created this scholarship to give back to the NDSCS Performing Arts.

The Red Murphy Endowment was established in 2018 by his wife Sheila. Red was a lifelong resident of the Killdeer area and a third generation rancher. Red and Sheila have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Betty and her husband, Chris Maier, started this scholarship in honor of their son, James Maier. When Chris passed in 2007, Betty continued to fund the scholarship. Chris was a 1953 alumni of NDSCS in Diesel and worked for Union Pacific most of his life.

Shawn D. Faller Endowment

Deanna Faller started this scholarship in 2018 in memory of her husband, Shawn. Shawn and Deanna did not attend NDSCS, but Deanna was impressed with the NDSCS Welding department and our Workforce Partnerships. Shawn worked at Weisgram Metal Fabrication in West Fargo his entire career. Shawn passed away on September 4, 2016 at the age of 41 from cancer. He and Deanna had three daughters.

Tim Thompson Memorial Endowment

Tim was a long-time faculty member at NDSCS teaching for 36 years. He was the department chair of the Machine Tool department from 1985-1992, and during that time, created and implemented a new program, Automated Manufacturing Technician. Tim retired from NDSCS in May of 2011 and passed away in September of 2011. Tim’s friend, Kara Gruenberg is a Professor at NDSCS and started this endowment in Tim’s memory.

Brian graduated from NDSCS in 1975 with an Electronic Technology degree and in 1976 with an Electrical Technology degree. He was hired right out of college by Minnkota Power Cooperative in Grand Forks, N.D. Brian then spent three years at Ecolab in Las Vegas before returning to MinnKota to accept a position in Safety Training and Administration. Brian attributes his education at NDSCS to his success in both careers. Brian and his wife, Carla, are lifelong North Dakota residents and have two children.

Madeline Miller is a 1948 graduate of NDSSS Secretarial Training Program. She and her husband, Darrel, were married for 53 years and farmed for 36 years. Darrel passed away in 2003. In 2010, Madeline made a donation to build the Women’s softball complex at NDSCS in memory of their daughter, Gayle, who attended NDSCS in 1974 and passed away from cancer in 1989. Terry Lawler was a Diesel Technology graduate of NDSCS and farmed by Linton, N.D. His wife, Jeannette, started this scholarship in 2005 in his memory. Jeannette passed away in 2013. They had two daughters.

Woody & Connie Caspers Scholarship Endowment

Woody and Connie Caspers have been long-time supporters of NDSCS. Woody served as the Alumni Foundation Director for 14 years beginning in 1996. He also volunteered on many boards, including the NDSCS Alumni Foundation, was the Alumnus of the Year, Parade Grand Marshal, and Booster of the Year. Woody passed away in January of 2021. Connie remains a strong advocate for NDSCS and continues to support the Foundation. Woody and Connie are well known for their service, support, and generosity to others.

Worner Family Endowment

Wayne “Dempsey” Worner (1957), Roger Worner (1963) and Michael Worner (1963) all exemplify what it means to be a true Wildcat and NDSCS Ambassador. The three brothers grew up in Wahpeton and attended NDSSS. While they all went on to earn Doctorate degrees, they value their time at NDSCS and appreciate the foundation of skills, education, and friendships made during their time here. Dempsey, Roger, and Mike have stayed in touch with NDSCS and still attend events supporting the College. The Worner’s are passionate about helping future NDSCS students succeed and generously created this endowment to do so.

Mark Yaggie Endowment

Mark Yaggie was the son of Dave and Jeri Yaggie. Mark farmed with his dad in Breckenridge, Minn.; was an avid airplane enthusiast and a gifted mechanic and innovator. Family, faith, farming and flying were his passions. Mark passed away in 2017 at age 41 and leaves behind three sons.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

Bernard (Barney) T. Hilgers Scholarship

Bernard Hilgers was a 1946 graduate of NDSSS Sheet Metal program. He served in the US Army and then returned to Wahpeton to begin his 38-1/2 year career at NDSCS as a welding and machine tool and die instructor and as a career coordinator. Barney and his wife, Millie, were married for 63 years and had six children. Barney passed away in 2016.

Don Yaggie/Tom Kotnour Endowment

Don Yaggie and Tom Kotnour were long-time friends, solid leaders in the community and strong believers in education. Tom received the Friend of the College award in 2003, he passed away in 2010. Together they started this scholarship as supporters of NDSCS.

Julian Szczur Welding Endowment

Julian Szczur graduated from NDSCS in 1941 in Welding. He was a welding instructor from 1945-1986. Julian was the 1997 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.

LeRoy Balstad Scholarship

The LeRoy Balstad Scholarship was established by his wife, Pat after LeRoy’s passing in 2018. LeRoy was a gifted machinist, carpenter, and inventor. He did not attend NDSCS, but he and his family believe in the importance of trade education. LeRoy and Pat were married 47 years, have two children, and nine grandchildren.

Precision Machine of Dickinson Endowment

Keith Huschka is a 1975 Machinist and Toolmaking graduate of NDSCS. He is the owner of Precision Machine and Welding, Inc. in Dickinson, N.D. Keith appreciated the education he received at NDSCS and wanted to give back by providing scholarships to students.

Roger & Donna Hentges Endowment

Roger graduated from NDSSS in 1962 in Industrial Drafting and Design. He was hired out of college by Mid America Steel and is still a consultant there today. He has recruited and hired many “Science” grads. Roger and his wife, Donna, share a strong passion for NDSCS.

Shawn D. Faller Endowment

Deanna Faller started this scholarship in 2018 in memory of her husband, Shawn. Shawn and Deanna did not attend NDSCS, but Deanna was impressed with the NDSCS Welding department and our Workforce Partnerships. Shawn worked at Weisgram Metal Fabrication in West Fargo his entire career. Shawn passed away on September 4, 2016 at the age of 41 from cancer. He and Deanna had three daughters.

William H., Norma R. & Richard L. Frank Endowment

William and Norma established a scholarship in memory of their son, Richard, who was a 1982 Welding graduate of NDSCS. They also left money to the college upon their passing.
