Rejecting the “bigger-is-better” push of the legal industry, we offer a unique experience. Our practice is sophisticated, and our client base is global, but there’s a feeling of family here. Doors are open. People say hello, and attorneys at all levels express a genuine interest in your development and your ideas. You will dive in immediately and have an opportunity to make a difference. – SCOTT J. FISHER | MANAGING PARTNER
NGE AT A GLANCE With 150 lawyers, Neal Gerber Eisenberg is one of the largest single-office law firms in the nation. PARTNER HIRING COMMITTEE CHAIR
We want our attorneys at all levels to find meaning in their work and be engaged in the business. We’re committed to providing young associates with early opportunities to stretch into new territory, have regular conversations with firm leaders and form direct client relationships.
Meaningful assignments that allow you to sample the broad range of the Firm’s practice areas. For example, our summer associates have: • Drafted pleadings for a multimedia client in a case in federal court, and argued a motion for default judgment and permanent injunction against a patent infringer based in China; • Prepared an opening statement to be delivered by NGE attorneys at a jury trial in a sex discrimination and harassment case; • Assisted in a $139 million real estate transaction involving due diligence, the drafting of closing documents, and coordination with the title company.
OUR VALUES Our values as corporate citizens are guided by our responsibility to our people, our clients, our community, and our environment. Here is a snapshot of our recent initiatives:
PRO BONO AND COMMUNITY We are deeply committed to using our legal skills to make life better for others, and we give back to communities in which we live and work. • In 2019, 100% of our associates participated in pro bono matters, and our attorneys worked 4,599 pro bono hours collectively. • We represent persecuted individuals and asylum seekers through the National Immigrant Justice Center. • We support the All Stars Project by providing development opportunities to underprivileged and underserved youth in the Chicago area.
SUSTAINABILITY We are committed to promoting environmentally sustainable programs to conserve natural resources now, and for generations to come. • We participate in the EPA’s WasteWise program, resulting in recycling efforts that conserved the equivalent of two acres of forest. • We eliminated plastic cups, thereby eliminating the disposal and waste of over 100,000 cups a year. • Our digitization initiative helped reduce the firm’s purchase of paper by over 10 tons per year.
WELLNESS We support and promote the holistic well-being of all attorneys and staff. • We signed the ABA Well-Being Pledge, and launched the NGE BeingWell initiative. • We participated in Operation Gratitude and wrote thank you letters to our deployed troops, veterans and first responders. • We invited Neha Sampat from GenLead | BelongLab to discuss imposter syndrome with us.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION We recognize that the true benefit of a diverse workplace can be felt only when there is a genuine sense of organizational inclusion. • We hosted trial attorney, speaker and writer Ellie Krug, who discussed what it means to be transgender, shared her experiences living on “the other side of the gender fence,” and provided a toolset for inclusion. • We hosted journalist and author Wil Haygood to discuss Thurgood Marshall’s nomination to the Supreme Court, and how lessons related to racial and class tensions of the day are still relevant today. • We achieved Mansfield 2.0 certification, confirmation of the firm’s focus on inclusion, and its hard work to attract and advance exceptional talent.
OUR CULTURE Neal Gerber Eisenberg is a great place to start and build a rewarding legal career. We work hard at nurturing legal talent and providing associates with a platform to grow professionally, early on and throughout their careers. While you will work hard, you will have a fulfilling career and a full life in a way that works for you. The training and mentorship we received as summer associates was outstanding. We met regularly with a writing coach throughout the summer, as well as our associate and partner mentors. We also participated in all kinds of interactive programming, from a negotiation workshop to practice-specific programs, to programs on well-being. – LEE STARK | UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LAW SCHOOL CLASS OF ’21

SUMMER ASSOCIATE ’19
Going into the summer program, I was unsure what type of work I wanted to do. NGE encouraged me to take on assignments in different practice areas and offered shadowing opportunities that helped me understand the work in context. Every attorney with whom I worked was genuinely interested in helping me to make the most of my summer. – SAHAR MERCHANT | NORTHWESTERN PRITZKER SCHOOL OF LAW CLASS OF ’21
