In 2020, she received the Collaborative Leadership Award from the Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards, and was named among the Crain’s Chicago Business “Notable Women in Law.” In 2017, she was recognized as one of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” by the Law Bulletin.
Sonya is a member of the Chicago chapter of the International Women’s Fo r u m (IWF), an international organization that suppor ts global, national and local networks of women leaders. She regularly works with the Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA), p ro v i d i n g p ro b o n o e m p l o y m e n t counseling to the organization. From 2019-2021, Sonya served as a member of the National Board of Step Up, a national nonprofit organization that empowers girls from under-resourced communities to graduate high
Sonya earned her J.D., with honors, from the Chicago -Kent College of Law, and her B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago.
