THE HONEY MASK "Paradise is a world where everything is a sanctuary and nothing is a gun." Growing up inside the four walls of our room, we turn out to be humans who appreciate nature only from afar. We build glass houses on top of glass floors, being content in not knowing the repurcussions our art has on our environment. The Honey Mask, a mountain resort located in the himalayas, is an attempt at taking nature's sacred shape, hexagon, and moulding it in the form of buildings. The buldings have been designed in a way that minimizes the amout of cutting and filling done on top of hills, thus preserving the sanctity of a fragile ecosystem.

Sun and wind direction
LOCATION: Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The zoning was done keeping in mind the sun and wind direction and the noise level that reached the site. The site has been divided into three zones: 1) Entrance 2) Recreation 3) Living accomodation
Zoning based on accessibility, privacy and
Entrance is located towards the front for the easy accessiblity of guests with the recreation spaces located towards the middle of the site, for the same reason. The cottages have been spread out and designed towards the site edges and where the noise levels are the least, hence providing privacy to guests occupying individual cottages. A hexagonal grid has been super-imposed on top of the zoned area which sets the tone for the designing of the whole design. All the buildings are in the shape of hexagons and designed keeping in mind the natural contours of the site. Play of level comes naturally owing to the fact that the contours are placed at a vertical interval of 1 m and the site witnesses an overall gradual rise of 22 m.

IMBUED BUCOLIC "The sun never knew how great it was until it hit the side of a building." All our life all we long for is the feeling of being at home; of being safe and sound in a place we can call our own. On mornings as crisp as french toast, we find ourselves longing for peace and a space where everyone is a neighbour and nobody is an enemy. Imbued bucolic, meaning, to instill the pleasant aspects of countryside, is an atempt to make the user feel as if the world was their oyster and that there is possibility around every corner. The project was designed, with my teammate Ridhima Chawla, along the lines of providing a calm and soothing environment to the occupants so that their home can become a haven from the pollution and concrete jungle they live in.

Sun and wind direction on site.
LOCATION: New Delhi, India. The zoning was done keeping in mind the sun and wind direction. The site has been divided into two major parts: 1) Plotted housing 2) Apartments The two are separated by the provision of a common park; starting from here on out, the buildings gradually increase in height. This ensures that all the dwelling units get ample sunlight, views and lessen the imposing feeling rendered by the build environment.

FORM DEVELOPMENT
20
21
FORM DEVELOPMENT Located in the farthest corner of the site and being the smallest in area per DU, Type 3 apartments contain 3 dwelling units per floor. The dwelling units have been arrranged in such a manner that each dwelling unit gets ample sunlight at one point of time or the other. The USP of the design is the use of curved interior spaces.
22
Located in the middle of buildings with subtle curves and a building with rigid angles and lines, Type 2 apartments were designed combing the two. The balconies provided are free flowing with the exterior facade of the dwelling units rigid, which gives the building its unique look.

CORAL RECOVERY "The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." Think about the life forms just beneath the surface of these oceans on a warm morning, Wonder how they'll survive in a space created by our trash; forcing our manmade ecosystem down their throats. Coral recovery is our way of etching the need of the hour in stone. Just like corals are the foundations of marine life, we've dedicated a cafe made by recycling, upcycling and downcycling parts of a shipping container. Designing buildings that remind us about the beauty of nature and how imitation can be the best form of flattery, was the aim of my project, created with my teammate Ridhima Chawla.

SITE CONSIDERATIONS

E
Sun and wind direction on site.
LOCATION: Ko Poda Island, Thailand. The zoning was done keeping in mind the sun, wind and the direction of pedestrian traffic on site. There are four types of different sitting areas in the cafe: 1) Outdoor sitting 2) Booth sitting 3) Semi-formal sitting 4) Casual sitting 5) Deck sitting Due to the site being on a beach, the incoming traffic is mostly from the mainland and the beach itself therefore, the site has been divided into three zones:
Pedestrian traffic from all the sides on site.
1) The zone towards the sea is made up of outdoor sitting space, swing sitting and an open kitchen. 2) The middle zone consists of semi-formal sitting and the courtyard which acts as a buffer space. 3) The zone towards the island is where the reception and the restrooms are located, given the fact that a track runs along this side which provides as the main entry towards the beach from the island itself.
28
Different sitting spaces designed on the basis of permeability of pedestrian traffic.
FORM DEVELOPMENT Making biomimicry on an organism level as our main concept, the form has been derived from different types of coral found in nature.
Horizontal component
After planning the zoned spaces according to the site considerations, the horizontal, vertical and diagonal character provided by corals is put together to give a form to the building that is well-balanced and aesthetically pleasing.

A CABIN IN THE WOODS "When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe. Designed in the third semester, the site of this project is hypothetical. The main reason of picking up a site away from the city was the need to pull away from a toxic system and environment. The duplex is made out of adobe bricks with wooden panels on the facade of the upper storey. The site the house is built on plays with different contour levels, providing the inhabitants with a space that feels good to walk about. The design of the duplex is coupled with working drawing done in fifth semester, thus making this project essentially a working drawing.
