KIOSK
Inspirations
Goal: To design a kiosk that can be placed either outdoor or indoor. Requirements: Size need to be no more than 10’ wide, 10’ deep, and 10’ high. Analyze the given architect/ designer (Cecil Balmond) style and choose a concept to fabricate the kiosk. Kiosk Concept: Rotation Repetition Angles Solution: Using the concept and considering Cecil Balmond architectural and mathematical approach to his design, and getting inspired by patterns in nature, I came up with a “twisting triangles” pattern to use as the base of my kiosk body. This pattern repeats and rotates around the kiosk.

Solution: I designed a micro-hermitage that has 3 different spaced in which maximum of 5 people can fit at once. The first area is for lying down. It is 4’ high and the occupant can use the lattice to climb up. The second space is more public. There are multiple shelves that one can use to lean on or place their personal belongings on. There are also two power-outlets so people can charge their electronic devises with. The third space is designed for sitting and a maximum of 2 people can fit in at once. The lattice between this area and the last one allows the occupant(s) to see the traffic flow outside of the building. It also makes it easier for them to use the power outlet on the other side.

Pre-Fab Home
Clients’ profile: Hamidreza & Pooneh, Married for 5 years. Pooneh is a physiologist who works from home. Hamidreza is aircraft maintenance engineer who works at airport. Solution: I designed a two story modern prefab home-office which includes fair amount of tall windows and skylights to provide maximum amount of natural light per clients request.

PAPER Goal: To design two patterns to be printed as wall papers (2’ by 3’) Requirements: To work in groups of two. To get inspired by close up photos of objects in the nature. To analyze the patterns the close up views or microscopic images make and incorporate the pattern in the wallpaper design. Solution: Designed two different patterns by manipulating the pasterns and playing with colors of Obelia and Pinecone under microscope. First one has the fluid and free feeling to it as Obleia gives us. The next one has a busy and crowded pattern inspired by complexity of pine cone cells.

PRINTER Goal: To design a light fixture inspired by studying the wallpaper’s concept. Requirements: Work in teams of two. Choosing Inspiration picture from previous researches on wallpaper. 3D print a small scale of the light fixture. Solution: By looking closely at microscopic images of plan cells, we chose 3 different organic shapes. By connecting, and rotating them, we created the shown light fixture.

PLUS Goal: To design and fabricate a tessellated 3d printed tile assembly Requirements: Work in groups of two. To develop at least 3 unique tiles that work well together and can be aggregated within the tessellation of the tiles to make a unified and yet varied surface. Solution: We chose 2 different pattern s to start. The first pattern defines the outline and edges of each tile on the wall. The second pattern is to be projected on each tile. Each of these tiles will have a unique shape and design.

Hotel Design The shape of the plant cells inspires My hotel. I tried to capture three characteristics of these plant cells: 1) The cells not being tightly attached to one another as if they are flouting in a liquid base. 2) Colorfulness of both plant and the microscopic images. 3) organic shapes of plant cells elements ender microscope Space planning for hotel rooms is cellular rather than open space planning. Furniture grouping is irregular and mimicking the shape of the plant cells.

Playing with transparency of the oval shapers gives us the ability to control the amount of light coming in. In addition we can control the privacy of the different areas of the hotel rooms using hollow or solid panels.
