Seeing the World With Seeing the World With Keratoconus... Keratoconus... Keratocouns is a disease of the eye. It largely has a genetic basis but does have triggers such as eye rubbing. I myself thought I’d escaped it as a 20 year old, my brother was diagnosed 8 years ago and we both got it from my grandfather. Eigh years on and two cornea transplants later he still has to work towards 20/20 vision. It’s crazy how many people have never heard of it. I often find the illness’ with no cure are often overlooked and forgotten about. In reality they affect real people whose lives are changed forever in a single moment. I’m one of those people and I want to create exposure for the others but lets be honest it does make great fashion. Keratoconus is when the cornea thins causing the eye to bulge. So instead of a nice cornea the eye has an uneven surface meaning that light has trouble being refracted. The most common symptom is blurred vision. I personally experience double vision which is hard to cope with day to day. There are few treatment options and only one to stop progression entirely, however that’s a lifelong commitment. I’ve created an editoiral with the blurred vsion as the main faocus. Who said Fashion can’t be meaningful.
