Historic Book Donation Drive: Town Of Babylon Secures Over 5,000 Books In Partnership With Book

Fairies

The Town of Babylon, in partnership with Book Fairies, has successfully collected over 5,000 books for local students. This historic effort brought together residents, educators, and community partners to foster a love for reading and support literacy

initiatives throughout the community. The books will provide students with greater access to reading materials that encourage imagination, learning, and personal growth. This book donation effort also ties into the towns celebration of P.S. I Love You Day, founded by sisters Jaimie and Brooke DiPalma. The day promotes love, kindness, and positive mental health awareness. Much like the themes of this special day, the book drive shows how small acts of generosity can make a lasting impact on the community and the future of its students.

Have Your Furry Friends Tested Annually

The American Heartworm Society advises dog owners to have their furry companions tested for heartworm annually. Such tests can typically be conducted during routine preventive care visits to the veterinarian. The AHS notes that such tests are necessary even for dogs that are taking year-round heartworm prevention medications. Tests can confirm that such programs are working or indicate if they are not effective. The American Veterinary Medical Association notes that antigen tests are the most commonly performed tests. These tests detect the presence of adult female heartworms and they are typically highly accurate. If a test is positive, veterinarians may recommend further testing,

including radiographs, a blood profile and an echocardiogram. Such tests can determine a number of things about the infection, including its severity. The AVMA also notes that the additional testing can help determine the best course of treatment. Cat owners should know that it’s more difficult to detect heartworm in cats than in dogs. The AHS indicates that cats are much less likely than dogs to have adult heartworms, making the disease harder to detect in felines. Veterinarians may recommend cats receive both the antigen test and an antibody test, which detects exposure to heartworm larvae. The AVMA notes that more testing may increase the likelihood of detecting the disease in cats.

Recipe Of The Week: Spicy Oven-Fried Cod Fillets

od is a popular saltwater fish that is mild in flavor with firm meat. This means it may hold up better than some other white fish in different meals, like a fish fry. This recipe for “Spicy Oven-Fried Cod Fillets” (The Pampered Chef®) from The Pampered Chef® Test Kitchens is a flavorful, yet light dish.

4 servings

Sauce:

2 teaspoons thinly sliced green onion with top

1 small garlic clove, pressed

1/2 cup reduced-fat Thousand Island salad dressing

1/4 teaspoon chili powder Dash cayenne pepper

Directions:

Cod fillets:

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup dry Italian-style bread crumbs

1/4 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 pounds cod fish fillets

1. Preheat oven to 450 F. For sauce, thinly slice green onion. Press garlic. Add onion, salad dressing, chili powder, and cayenne pepper; mix well. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.

2. For cod fillets, lightly beat egg in a small bowl. Combine bread crumbs, chili powder and salt in a shallow dish. Dip fillets into egg, then into bread crumb mixture, coating evenly. Arrange fillets on a pan; lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray.

3. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until cod flakes easily with a fork. Remove from oven; serve cod with sauce.

The Healthy Home A Healthier, More Sustainable Lifestyle

(NAPSI)—As ecoconscious living continues to grow in popularity, families are embracing greener habits and making sustainable choices in all aspects of life. From minimizing waste and using renewable energy to creating healthy indoor environments, modern families are more committed than ever to ensuring their homes reflect their values of sustainability and wellness. One often-overlooked element in creating an ecofriendly and healthy home, however, is air duct cleaning, which plays a crucial role in both energy efficiency and indoor air quality (IAQ). And, when it comes to seeing air duct cleaning is done right, the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) is setting the highest standards in the industry.

Eco-conscious and healthconscious families are turning to green practices, from installing smart systems to using energyefficient appliances. Yet, despite these efforts, the air inside your home can still be filled with dust, mold, and allergens if your HVAC system is not properly maintained. Regular air duct cleaning supports

your sustainable goals by improving IAQ, reducing energy consumption, and extending the life of your HVAC system.

How Air Duct Cleaning Contributes to a Greener Home

1. Improved Energy Efficiency: Dirty air ducts force HVAC systems to work harder to heat or cool your home, leading to higher energy usage. A well-maintained system, with clean ducts, operates more efficiently, reducing energy waste and lowering your carbon footprint. To keep a home operating at peak efficiency, schedule regular air duct cleanings.

2. Better Indoor Air Quality: Clean air is essential for health-conscious families. By reducing contaminants such as dust, mold spores, and bacteria, regular duct cleaning helps create a healthier indoor environment. This is particularly important for families with members who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions.

3. Reduced Environmental Toxins: Green families strive to minimize their exposure to harmful chemicals. Air ducts can

harbor pollutants that may circulate throughout your home, contributing to poor IAQ. Routine cleaning helps reduce the buildup of these contaminants, promoting a toxin-free home without resorting to harsh chemical solutions. Why Choose a NADCACertified Professional?

While air duct cleaning is essential for maintaining a healthy, sustainable home, it must be done properly. That’s where NADCA comes in.

NADCA holds its members to the highest standards, with a strict Code of Ethics and best practices. NADCAcertified professionals undergo rigorous training to ensure they use the most effective, up-to-date techniques and equipment. This means that your home’s air ducts are not only clean but that the process is conducted ethically and with a commitment to quality. Take Control of Your Home’s Air Quality

To schedule an inspection with a professionally trained technician, visit NADCA. com to find a certified air duct cleaning professional so you can breathe easier, knowing your home is in expert hands.

Protecting Your Assets

Is Your Identity Safe? What To Do If It’s Not

(NAPSI)—Identity theft is becoming more common, affecting people from all walks of life—but you can protect yourself.

The Problem

Scammers are always finding new ways to steal personal information, often leaving their victims with financial losses and a sense of violation.

An Answer

Staying informed can make a big difference in keeping yourself safe. Here’s what you should know:

How Identity Theft Happens

Most identity theft happens online. Often when someone clicks links from text messages, emails, or even is catfished. The link you click could lead you to a fake website to input credentials or have you install an app that can retrieve your passwords to important accounts.

Identity Theft Scams on the Rise

• Synthetic Identity Theft: With synthetic identity theft, scammers mix real and fake information to create a new, false identity. They might use a real Social Security number alongside madeup details. This lets them open bank accounts, get credit cards, or even apply for loans—using a fake identity that feels all too real.

• Medical Identity Theft: Medical identity theft happens when someone uses your personal medical information to access healthcare services, prescription drugs, or medical devices. This can leave you with unexpected medical bills or inaccurate records, which can complicate future treatments. It’s a frustrating situation, but knowing what to look for can help.

• Account Takeover Fraud: In account takeover

fraud, scammers take control of your online accounts, such as banking, email, or social media. This often happens through phishing emails, weak passwords, or data breaches. Once inside, they can drain your funds or steal even more personal details. It’s scary, but there are ways to protect yourself.

• Deepfake and AI-driven Identity Theft: As technology advances, criminals use tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) to create deepfakes— fake videos or voices that look and sound just like real people. They can use these to trick others into believing they are someone else. It’s a hightech problem, but you don’t need to be a tech expert to fight back.

Ways to Protect Yourself No solution is foolproof, but there are 7 steps you can take to protect yourself and lower the chances of becoming a victim:

1. Use a Caller ID & Scam Blocking app: The Truecaller app helps identify unknown calls and messages, and will even identify scam numbers in real time. People around the world actively report numbers as scams and write comments about their experience, and you can see statistics about scammers’ call patterns.

2. Use Strong and Unique Passwords: Use passwords that are tough to crack—mix letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid reusing passwords across accounts. A password manager can be a handy tool to create and store them safely.

3. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):  MFA adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. After entering your password, you’ll need to verify your identity again, like with

a code sent to your phone. It’s like adding a second lock on your door, making it harder for scammers to break in.

4. Monitor Your Credit Regularly: Keep an eye on your credit reports for anything unusual, such as new accounts you didn’t open. It’s one of the quickest ways to spot identity theft early. Many places offer free credit monitoring services, so take advantage of them.

5. Consider Identity Theft Protection Services: Some services can keep an eye on your personal information and alert you if they spot something suspicious. While they can’t prevent identity theft, they can make the recovery process smoother if it happens to you.

6. Secure Your Devices: Keep your phone, computer, and other devices updated with the latest security patches. Use antivirus software and strong passwords to keep hackers out. It’s a simple habit that can go a long way.

7. Shred Important Documents: Even in today’s digital age, physical paperwork can still be a goldmine for thieves. Shred any documents with personal information— bank statements or medical bills—before you toss them out.

Staying informed about the latest scams and being careful with your information can make a big difference. And if you do become a victim, don’t panic. Report it to the authorities or your credit bureau right away. They can help you limit the damage and start the recovery process.
