Over three hundred guests and dignitaries, dancing to the strains of Viennese Waltzes and dining on delicacies in the glittering rooms of the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, made the Inaugural Headmaster’s Ball not only an enjoyable affair but, more importantly, the most successful fundraiser in the history of All Saints Regional Catholic School. Held on Saturday, February 2nd, at the close of Catholic Schools Week, the Ball’s success signaled a broad and vigorous commitment to sustaining Catholic elementary and middle education on the Gold Coast. After a cocktail hour, the Ball officially opened with a brief ceremony in which the Abbot Primate, His Excellency,

Rockin’ For Autism Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), the leading service provider for children and adults with autism on Long Island, held its annual Rockin’ for Autism concert. Nearly 500 Long Islanders packed Mulcahy’s Pub and Music Hall in Wantagh to raise over $30,000 for DDI. “Despite the economic climate we all face today, it is heartwarming to witness the generosity of the numerous volunteers and the nearly 500 attendees who have lent themselves to help benefit the more than 1,500 adults and children who receive services daily through DDI’s many programs,” said Jim Cronin, Chairman of the event and a member of the DDI Foundation Board. “A special thanks to our Event Music Director, Steve Alliano, and the talented musicians who donated their services and talents to make the day a
true success.” For a $30 donation guests enjoyed the sounds of live music with an allstar lineup of legendary Long Island bands including 1 Step Ahead, The Cold Spring Harbor Band paying tribute to Billy Joel, Just Cause and Dr. G’s All Star Veteran Band. Gift baskets, raffles, food and live music were enjoyed by all into the late evening. “It is truly remarkable to see so many people come together to help those challenged with a disability,” stated John Lessard, Executive Director of DDI. “Each year Jim Cronin dedicates so much of his time to putting together this wonderful event to help support the vital programs that DDI has to benefit Long Islanders with autism and other developmental disabilities. Jim’s dedication to DDI is incredible and admirable.”

LONG ISLAND – A new report has just been released which reveals 7 costly mistakes that most homeowners make when selling their home, and a 9 Step System that can help you sell your home fast and for the most amount of money. This industry report shows clearly how the traditional ways of selling homes have become increasingly less and less effective in today’s market. The fact of the matter is that fully three quarters of homesellers don’t get what they want for their home and become disillusioned and - worse - financially disadvantaged when they put their home on the market.

The Provost and the Headmaster next thanked Sr Joanne Callahan, OSU, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, for her trust in the Canons and her support for All Saints, conferring on her a wooden carved statue of the founder of the Abbey, St. Leopold of Austria. gratitude for the work of the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine in Glen Cove, who arrived in June, 2011 to assume the pastoral care of the parishes of Saint Patrick and Saint Rocco, and his hope for growing bonds between Rockville Centre and Klosterneuburg over the years to come. In December, Bishop Murphy made the trip to Klosterneuburg to ordain the Very Reverend Dom Gabriel Rach, now serving in Glen Cove, to the priesthood. With the speeches made and thanks given, the traditional call of “Alles Walzer!” (everybody waltz!) set the guests dancing and All Saints on the path to a grand future.

Fleeting Thoughts Far too often, we are reminded of the fleeting nature of life; the fact that, in an instant, things can change, throwing any sense of normalcy and routine into complete upheaval. Whether by the hands of Mother Nature or some otherworldly force, many of these factors are far beyond our control, making it all the more crucial that we embrace those things we do, in fact, have control over. One of my favorite films back in my high school Political Science class was Dead Poets Society, simply for the fact that its mantra of “Carpe Diem” seemed to make perfect sense. Seize the
day, capture the moment… live each day to the fullest. You just never know what may be around the corner. Certainly, there are times when something positive is on the horizon; surprises need not always portend tragedy and aggravation. It just seems that, on the whole, we as a society tend to take our lives – and those most important to us – for granted, never anticipating a day when this sense of contentment (read: complacency) might be turned upside down. What can we do to prepare for this eventuality? Well, nothing and everything – all at the same time. There are those circumstances which reach far beyond our control;
the key is to take the given situation and make the most of it, and to move forward having learned something about ourselves. If this means taking more time to appreciate the little things in life…or savoring each moment with those we love… or simply reaching toward a long-unrealized goal… this is progress. This is positive. This is appreciation. This is not to say we will not each continually be faced with new obstacles each and every day – some minor, some life-changing – but at the very least, we will be better prepared to deal with them. Carpe Diem always… Those who seize the day are those who have few regrets.

Take Heart With Tea An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay.
The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad
cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the
risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to
be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease. That news may be especially important
for women, given that heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.

Soldier Collection Drive The Town of Oyster Bay is participating in a 2013 Soldier Collection Drive in an effort to gather needed supplies to be sent to the men and women serving around the globe and is asking residents to help support the drive, according to Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone, who noted that this is the sixth year the Town is participating in this collection drive.
“Last year, Town residents, with the assistance of the CSEA, donated more than 2,000 pounds of much-needed supplies,” Councilman Macagnone stated. “This year, with residents’ support, we hope to surpass that amount.” Anyone interested in donating to the collection drive may drop off items at Town Hall North in Oyster Bay; Department
of Public Works (CSEA entrance) in Syosset; Town Hall South in Massapequa; and at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center at Bethpage Community Park. The collection drive will end on Friday, March 15th. Items needed include: Antibiotic & Cortisone Ointments White Socks Visine Athletic T-shirts

BIG HEART - Assemblyman Joseph Saladino presented a special NY Citation to Christopher Stack, a youngster from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Christopher collected jackets and coats and other goods in his hometown to help Sandy victims on Long Island as part of his church project for confirmation. Shown here with his Mom just after they traveled over 8 hours to meet with Assemblyman Saladino and deliver the cargo, Chris and his proud Mom sported huge smiles happy they could make a difference.
BEAUTIFUL LENGTHS - Seven students (ranging from ages 5 to 7) at Birch Lane Elementary School, along with two first grade teachers and one parent, donating their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths recently. Salon Fringe in Amityville hosted the event and gave free haircuts to anyone who donated 8 inches of hair. They were able to send 16 ponytails that will be transformed into free, high-quality wigs for woman undergoing cancer treatments. These girls are true Hair Heroes!
