“The students lit up as they were given T-shirts and took part in an honorary coin toss ceremony; they had a great day,” Perpall said. Another game honored all veterans that came through the Seaford football program. The veterans, who mainly served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, were given special camouflage T-shirts and took part in the coin toss. The team also raised $750 that was used to buy gift cards for Seaford families whose homes were ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. “The football team’s community service program is one way of giving back and showing appreciation for the great support the team receives from the Seaford community,” said Seaford’s Athletic Director Thomas Condon. “This award is a tribute to the character of each team member.”

Service Award from the organization during the 2012 NCHSFCA Grid Iron Dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club. According to Seaford’s Head Coach Rob Perpall, the team was recognized for its involvement in several community service efforts. Under the direction of the coaching staff, the team sharpened the skills of more than 100 young athletes between the ages of 6 and 12 through its annual free, three-day football clinic for all youngsters involved in the Long Island Broncos football organization in Seaford. The team also honored different sectors of the community at their home games. One was dedicated to students with intellectual and/ or developmental challenges who are learning important social and life skills through their involvement in the Seaford chapter of Best Buddies International.

Storm-Sanity By: Jamie Lynn Ryan I’m beginning to despise Mother Nature. More specifically, I despise those weather forecasters, news anchors and so-called “reporters” who insist on inciting what amounts to mass hysteria every time a single snowflake or shower is detected on the horizon. Honestly, have we learned nothing from Hurricane Sandy? Back in October, there was plenty of advance warning, to be sure; but how many decided against taking precautionary measures based solely on past precedent? What’s that they say about the boy who cried wolf? Oh, eventually, he will be right…but no one will listen. Fast forward to my most favorite season of all – winter –

with all its blizzards and sleet and ice storms. You know, the season where one flake in the forecast calls for widespread panic. Let’s all run in droves to the stores to snap up every last shovel and snow-blower – “just in case.” Let’s stock up on milk and eggs because, after all, once the power goes out, what better necessities to have on hand? Oh, and let’s not forget to wait in line for gas once again – you know, for all that driving we’ll surely be doing in two feet of snow. Seriously people? Personally, I’m a big fan of waking up, looking out the window and assessing the situation for myself. And if the power goes out, well that’s a whole other ballgame. Then gone are those cozy dreams of being snowed in with nothing but a pile of DVDs and books to catch up on while you bake

cookies and make hot cocoa. Honestly, the last time I truly enjoyed a “snow day,” I was probably about eight years old. It’s a bit different when you need to shovel your way out and work for a living, isn’t it fellow adults? And doesn’t it always seem that the worst weather hits right when you have a million things to do? When you have all these grand plans to be productive and proactive and all that good stuff? So much for that. Best plan: pull the covers over your head, go back to sleep and enjoy the peace and quiet. No hysteria, no stockpile of milk and eggs, no need to skate all over the roads. No sense trying to fight what you can’t control. Trust me, there is no shovel that’s a match for Mother Nature.

The petition for the nomination of candidates for the office of a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public Library to be elected at the Special District Meeting to be held on April 3rd, 2013, must be filed with the School District Clerk at the Seaford Manor School, Washington Avenue, Seaford, New York, not later than the 30th day preceding the election, at which the candidates nominated are to be voted upon. Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. However, such tax liens shall have priority over the County’s Differential Interest Lien, representing the excess, if any, of the interest and penalty borne at the maximum rate over the interest and penalty borne at the rate at which the lien is purchased. The County Treasurer reserves the right, without further notice and at any time, to withdraw from sale any of the parcels of land or premises herein listed. The Nassau County Treasurer reserves the right to intervene in any bankruptcy case/litigation where the property affected by the tax liens sold by the Treasurer is part of the bankruptcy estate. However,it is the sole responsibility of all tax lien purchasers to protect their legal interests in any bankruptcy case affecting their purchased tax lien, including but not limited to the filing of a proof of claim on their behalf, covering their investment in said tax lien. Time is of the essence in this sale.
