On October 29th, Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center was preparingfor impending Hurricane Sandy and making decisions regarding the safety of their residents and they reached out to West Islip Fire Department for assistance. A quick response to their request was granted and the Fire Department team arrived. Chief Scott Harvey met with Bill Kelly, Director of Plant Operations to discuss a plan of action to ensure the safety of all. A plan was put into place to evacuate 60 residents from the first floor of the building and the remainder be moved to the second floor where they would shelter in

Well, that was an event reserved exclusively for those truly insane individuals hell bent on camping out for some amazing sale or another. Not me. Not ever. And yet… Last year was my first venture into the madness. Considering I hate shopping in general, crowds even more, and don’t even bother to compose a Christmas list until the first week of December – I

Pilot Program Good Samaritan Hospital enacted a pilot program this past summer to identify all current and former members of the United States Armed Services who present in its Emergency Department in need of medical care.

Between 70 and 90 veterans each week are identified and provided information about the health care benefits to which they may be entitled. The hospital is advocating for state legislation mandating that

all hospitals and clinics ask a patient’s military status and that health care providers be trained on available resources to assist veterans with their health care needs.
