Get the Olaplex treatment @ Experia! Xperia Hair & Beauty at the Glencar Business Park, Letterkenny are proud and delighted to stock Olaplex! A revolutionary new state of the art hair treatment. It made such a fuss that even Vogue Magazine were blew away by the amazing capabilities of this new and exciting hair product...

Vogue beauty assistant Lottie Winter road-tests Olaplex, the so-called “Holy grail for coloured hair”. Everyone’s talking about Olaplex. And no wonder: as hair colour trends get more frequent and more experimental, the promise of a salon treatment that claims to restore your hair to its virgin state even as your colour is being applied is alluring indeed.

utes. I expected a chemical smell (even though I knew it to be free from silicone, sulfates, aldehydes and even gluten) and tingling feeling but it was pleasantly mild and felt like nothing more than water. Next, Chloe added the Bond Perfector for a double whammy of repairing benefits, then washed it all off after a further 10 minutes. I didn’t need my colour redone, but if I had, Chloe could have added the Olaplex to the dye for simultaneous results, stopping any damage at the source. This is what makes the treatment perfect for anyone after an extreme colour change or even just maintaining colour on very brittle hair.

In a nutshell, Olaplex is a turbo-charged conditioning treatment that repairs disulphate sulfur bonds within the hair structure, which can be broken down by heat, colouring or other chemical treatments. Creative colour director of John Frieda Salons, Nicola Clarke, recently described the formula as “the holy grail for hair colour” so my bayalage-beaten ends were perfect to give Olaplex a run for its money. Countywide search to find Ireland’s best young entrepreneur in Donegal The countywide search to find Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE), was launched last week by Local Enterprise Office, Donegal County Council. The competition is open to entrepreneurs aged 18 – 35, who have a business idea or already operate a new or established business. With a €2 million investment fund available, including a €50,000 investment fund for Donegal, the enterprise initiative from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland attracted 1,400 applications across the country last year and supported over 450 young entrepreneurs through training, mentoring and direct financial assistance. Co-ordinated by all 31 Local Enterprise Offices, the initiative begins with a nationwide competition across three categories at county level: Best Idea, Best Start-Up Business and Best Established Business. Around 450 applicants, across each county, will be invited to attend regional ‘Entrepreneur Bootcamps’ in November, to help them develop their business and new venture ideas. Following the boot-camp, three Donegal finalists will be selected to represent the county in the regional finals in early 2017.

This competition is perfect for anyone who has a good business idea and wants to take it to the next level.” Adding to this Ursula Donnelly, Deputy Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office, Donegal County Council said: “The search is on to find Donegal’s best young entrepreneurs and almost any young person with a business idea can enter this competition. It doesn’t matter what your background is; whether you have been to University and researched a business idea, or have always wanted to be your own boss, improve your existing business or return home and set up your business in Ireland. If you are aged between 18 and 35 with an outstanding idea or commercial venture for a start-up or existing business, then IBYE is the competition for you”. “The Local Enterprise Office Donegal is about supporting fresh and innovative ideas, so our advice for anyone thinking of getting involved in this year’s competition is to take the first step on your entrepreneurial journey by getting in touch with us today” she added.

Aisling Cunningham from Carndonagh won the Best Established Business category in last year’s competition for her company Powder ‘N’ Pout. She says the competition really benefitted her business and would encourage other young Six Prizes entrepreneurs to apply: “The advice and support I received after entering IBYE IBYE is open to individuals, venture was fantastic. Donegal woman loses her locks to raise awareness about children’s cancer

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow for Lauren After having long hair for most of her life, 22-year-old student nurse, and Donegal woman Lauren McEleney waved farewell to 17 and a half inches of her locks on Saturday, September 10, but all in the name of charity. The Clonmany native is in her final year at Queen’s University, studying Children’s Nursing. As part her studies she is set to take up an international placement in Sri Lanka in November, but before she departed she wanted to do something special to raise awareness about children’s cancer.

Wigs for children “I have many reasons for wanting to do this, I am a final year children’s nursing student in Queen’s university Belfast so I have both personal and professional experience of the impact that cancer/ hair loss can have on a child and their family. I know that a family with a child with cancer has lots and lots of worries therefore, I thought by donating my hair to make a wig for a child with cancer I would be able to take away one worry for that family which I think is such a privilege. I’ve always liked working with children, and as a children’s nurse I could see this as an opportunity to raise awareness about children’s cancer. I’ve had long hair since I was five years old but I’ve always wanted to cut it at some point. I have a ‘Go Fund Me’ page set-up and people were able to sponsor me through that. I also got donations handed to me personally as well,” explained Lauren.

that makes wigs for children with cancer. When Lauren wanted to donate her hair she contacted a local salon in her village and asked them to register with the Little Princess Trust, they did and to Lauren’s amazement other young people came forward in the village to donate their hair which was unexpected and really warmed her heart. So what is life like now for Lauren without the long locks that she has been used to for all these years? “I’m actually dosed with the flu right now,” she laughs. “For nine days leading up to the haircut I was going to bed with wet hair because I was conditioning it and putting oil in it and generally making it as healthy as possible for use. So right now my neck is pretty cold but it’ll be good for when I’m in Sri Lanka because it’ll be pretty warm out there.”

Long way to go Lauren also held a successful Quiz night in her local bar where locals came out in force and supported her cause. Lauren still has a bit to go to make the fee for her placement to Sri Lanka, the fee goes towards local communities, host families and buys much needed medical equipment. She said “I would like to thank every single person who contributed to my fundraising so far it really means a lot to me but I have a long way to go to reach my target of £3000 so any donations no matter how small would be really appreciated.”

The power of social media when it comes to fundraising is such that interest can come from the most random of places. Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Danny O’Carroll, who plays the hapless ‘Buster’ in the popular sitcom, having become aware of Lauren’s fundraising drive, kindly donated €300. However, ‘Buster’ is just one of the many who helped Lauren in her fundraising drive. NICHE Conference Invites Northwest Food Businesses to Network with European Counterparts A unique conference for food businesses takes place in Donegal next week and anyone working in the food industry is invited to attend. Hosted by the Local Enterprise Office, Donegal County Council, the conference will mark the launch of NICHE, a European project which aims to develop innovation in the food industry in seven European regions where food has been identified as key for jobs and economic growth.

Challenges The NICHE conference will address challenges arising from changes in the food sector and is aimed at anyone working directly or indirectly in a food related business. This includes food producers, food and drinks companies, packaging and logistics, research and development and agri-food related software and technology firms. An international delegation will visit Donegal for the event, including representatives from six other NICHE regions; West Romania, Derry and Strabane, Finland, Estonia, Crete and Poland. Michael Tunney, Head of Enterprise in Donegal County Council, says the conference presents a unique opportunity for food businesses in the northwest to network, gain insights and share knowledge with their international counterparts: “This conference, and the NICHE

Project as a whole, is about building innovation and developing relationships between companies operating within the partner countries. The food sector faces major challenges and the availability of safe, sustainable and healthy food has taken a new and pressing dimension in light of an ever-growing global population and increasing environmental and sustainability concerns. Technology has already substantially reshaped the business models, value chains and efficiencies in this sector, but a new wave of driven innovation is needed to give response to this new demand, which is where NICHE has a key role to play. We’d love to see as many food businesses as possible at the conference.”

Guest Speakers A series of guest speakers will address the conference, which will be split into four sections; National and European Perspectives and Practices, Regional and Local Perspectives and Practices, International Good Practice and Local Case Studies. Each section will also include a short Q&A session, where participants can interact with guest speakers. The NICHE conference takes

Dryness occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or produce poor quality tears. This can happen for a number of reasons, including aging, hormonal changes in women, side effects of disease or medications and other causes. Up until now, a ‘one shoe fits all’ approach whereby drops or gels were recommended was the norm. We are one of the first practices in Ireland to have invested in TearLab and Infra-Red Meibography. This enables us to analyse your Tears and examine your Meibomian Glands in detail. From these results, we are better able to establish what is causing your dry eye symptoms and put in place a dedicated Dry Eye Care Plan. In some cases, allergy and even sleeping with your eyes slightly open can give rise to the same symptoms. These patients can be helped very easily, but Tear Analysis and Meibomian Gland examination are still needed.”

Join Swimming Academy @ Aura Leisure Centre

The ability to swim is a very important and vital life skill, not only does it build confidence in kids, they develop an understanding of water safety, it’s one of the best forms of excercise and it teaches self discipline. By joining our swimming academy here at Aura Leisure Centre your child can benefit from training by our professionally trained instructors in an environment that is fun and positive. We have creative methods of instruction which the kids will enjoy and the kids are assesed by ability not age. Below is our parents guide to the levels, take a read and give us a call for more information.

Level 1 - Ducklings

Ducklings is the introductory level to our Swim Academy and here the aim is to teach your child safe entry and exit from the pool along with teaching them to fully submerge their face while having fun in the pool environment.

Level 2 - Turtles

In Turtles we introduce independent fl oating on both the child’s front and back. The Process of helping children to gain balance is a key element here. From there the correct arm, head and leg positionings are taught.

Level 3 - Seahorses

In Seahorses the main focus is to perfect both front crawl and back crawl kicking in the learner pool then advancing this to the main pool where confi dence is gained.

Level 4 - Safety

At this stage confidence in the main pool has been achieved. Safety is now the a focus, we will teach your child to tread water and swim without flotation aids on both front crawl and back crawl with arms.

Level 5 - Breathing

Breathing, which is one of the most diffi cult skills in swimming is now incorporated. We will teach your child to breathe unilaterally while still keeping good body position, arms and leg kick. Children will also be introduced to the deep end of the pool where treading water is advanced from the Starfi sh level.

Level 6 - Deep End

Now in the deep end of the pool we focus on retaining the skills that children have learned in Goldfish but in water that is 1.5cm deep and upwards. The next phase will be to teach breaststroke leg kick with correct foot position to gain glide while keeping the feet under the water.

Level 7 - Flying Fish

Flying Fish is a new level that we have introduced to help break down the strokes for children and have one main aim in each level. The main aim at this stage is to complete breaststroke with arm movement and to introduce the correct breathing for this.

Level 8 - Strokes

At this stage children are quite competent on the three main swimming strokes. A continuation of breaststroke breathing takes place and also the butterfly is focused on. Children in the higher levels of the Academy still need to have fun and there are some fun skill games taught.

Level 9 - Technique

Here the fine tuning starts to take place on all strokes focusing on the small but yet very important techniques to enhance ability. Fun and Games are still evident with snorkeling, tumble turns and a diving a focus.

Level 10 - Sharks

Sharks is the highest level of our swim academy where we aim to build stamina over all four strokes and introduce correct individual medley swimming along with furthering your child’s lifesaving skills.

Let’s look at some of the more ‘well known’ breeds... The Letterkenny Advertiser loves dogs so every month we will feature different breeds of our canine pals so you can learn a little about these amazing pets, companions for life, a member of the family, they deserve to be cared for and they truly offer lots of fun, joy and unconditional love, so in Part 2 we feature some well known breeds.

The Irish Setter originated in Ireland during the 18th century. They were bred as gundogs for tracking, pointing and retrieving game birds. Irish Setters can be independent, but they tend to form strong bonds with family members. They are protective of their family and make good watchdogs, but don’t expect guarding instincts. Irish Setters can be clownish, reserved, or highly-strung.

Irish Setter Height: 25-27 in. Weight: 60-70 lb Lifespan: 12-14years Irish Setters are devoted, good-natured, and loyal large dogs. Irish Setters form strong bonds with their family, but some are too hyper for small children. They are often used as therapy dogs because their affection is easily won over — they are ideal for active seniors, joggers, hikers, and families with older children, but they do best when not left home alone. They are energetic and need to expend some energy outdoors. Because they are natural hunters, they need an hour of running, playing games, learning tricks, or walking every day. Positive Traits: Great with kids and other dogs: a true family pet. Excellent hunter, loves to play games, especially fetch. Intelligent, friendly, and easily won over. Alert, curious, and busy Negative Traits: Requires frequent exercise and space to run Can be rowdy, especially as a younger dog Sensitive by nature, a bit slow to mature Prone to boredom and separation anxiety Willful and stubborn if you don’t show strong leadership Needs frequent attention from their family

Border Collie

Puppy

Eager & Energetic Herding Dog Agile, alert, active Border Collies are curious, busy, and intelligent, medium-sized dogs. They’re loyal, obedient but reserved with strangers. An excellent watchdog. Great companions for farmers and families with time and attention. Their abundance of mental and physical energy must be put toward a challenging task every day or they will become bored or destructive—an owner who can give them plenty of attention, exercise, and tasks to perform is essential. Positive Traits:

Chihuahuas

Puppy

Adult

A Small, tough, loyal entertainer Chihuahuas are spunky, animated, and vocal, small dogs. These confident dogs are known for their bark, and most are wary of strangers and other dogs if not properly socialised and trained. They do best indoors with plenty of attention, and can find the cold difficult. Great travelers. They make great companions for senior citizens, singles, and apartment dwellers. They are lively, they need plenty of time every day to run around inside or explore in a fenced yard. Positive Traits: Alert, curious, and busy, adaptable to a variety of living conditions, confident and self-reliant Vigilant watchdog, doesn’t need much exercise Has a short, easy-to-care-for coat

Negative Traits: Can be snappy if not socialised properly. Early socialisation to accept other pets and strangers Fragile and easily injured because of size Needs frequent attention from their family Bold and fearless, may attack much larger dogs

Puppy

Adult

A Confident & Dependable Leader Loyal, protective, devoted German Shepherds are athletic, trusting, and versatile large dogs. These alert and protective dogs are one of the preferred breeds for police dogs. They can be suspicious of strangers, but generally do well with other pets if they’re introduced as puppies. These dogs make great companions for active families, energetic individuals, and experienced dog handlers. They love physical & mental challenges. These shepherds should play fetch and go for a long walk or jog every day.

Boxer

Puppy

Adult

A Dependable Friend Affectionate, playful, fun-loving Boxers are easy-going, intelligent, and courageous large dogs. This strong and sturdy breed is a bit reserved with strangers but loves to play with children. These dogs may exhibit signs of anxiety if they’re left alone for long periods of time. Boxers do best in temperate climates because they are sensitive to hot and cold weather. They require a long daily walk or run to fulfill their exercise needs.

World record attempt falls just short at the Ferguson World Record Rematch 2016 Last weekend saw the Whitecross Vintage Association in Donegal fall just short of the World record to create the biggest every Massey Ferguson logo using only Massey Ferguson tractors. 500 tractors were needed to beat the World record but unfortunately they fell just short of this target. All in all it was a great weekend and thousands of euro were raised for a host of charities on this the 70th Anniversary of the Ferguson TE20, nicknamed the ‘Grey Menace’.

Recycle your batteries for Lauralynn This September, Donegal County Council and Tidy Towns Groups throughout the county are teaming up to support the WEEE Ireland Battery Recycling Campaign in aid of LauraLynn Irelands Children’s Hospice. The Battery Recycling Campaign will see participating Tidy Towns Groups distributing battery collection boxes within their community i.e. at local schools, community centres, post offices, shops & businesses with the target of raising awareness and increasing the number of batteries that are recycled county-wide. At the end of the month, full battery boxes will be collected and brought to a central location where the batteries will be weighed and brought for recycling. Every battery that is collected for recycling goes towards a monetary donation for the LauraLynn@ HOME service which brings hospice care into the comfort of the child’s own home. This service provides not only the specialist nursing care that the children urgently need, but also offers a range of other therapeutic interventions for the children, as well as emotional and practical supports for the whole family. To date, LauraLynn@HOME has provided support to 68 families, and the funding received from WEEE Ireland goes a long way in helping towards the running costs of this vital service. Last year, the national donation figure from battery recycling to LauraLynn, reached the €185,000 mark. After all the great work by Irish recyclers a further €50,000 was donated at the start of this year.

Donegal County Council is delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile campaign and Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer with the Council says that “I am sure that the people of Donegal will make every effort this September to find any waste batteries lying around their homes and sheds in order to reach the recycling target for batteries of 45%, as set by the EU. If this happens, WEEE Ireland have pledged to top up the existing donation to hit the €250,000 mark to LauraLynn”. “We really appreciate the support of the Tidy Towns groups throughout the county in this campaign as it will not only raise funds for LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice but also promote battery recycling, protect the environment and assist Ireland in achieving the EU battery recycling targets”. For further information on this campaign please contact Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer at Tel: 074-9176276.

Launch of Donegal Road Safety Plan 2016-2021 The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Terence Slowey this week launched the Donegal Road Safety Plan 2016-2021 produced by the Donegal Road Safety Working Group, with the objective of improving road safety for all road users. The Donegal Road Safety Working Group is an interagency group consisting of Donegal County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, An Garda Siochana, Road Safety Authority, Donegal Youth Service, Donegal ETB, Pro Social Drivers Programme and HSE Ambulance Service. The Road Safety Plan sets out the priorities for improving road safety in County Donegal. Some of the initiatives include promoting cross border co-operation on road safety, continuing to develop the road safety road show, review speed limits in accordance with National guidelines and legislation, high visibility enforcement targeting errant road user behaviour, drink driving and the non wearing of seatbelts. The Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Terence Slowey, explains that the plan focuses on the efforts of all involved in road safety and highlighting the need for community support for its full implementation. “Donegal County Council has an important role to play in promoting road safety and the Donegal Road Safety Plan 2016 to 2021 will focus on the reduction in road collisions through Education, Enforcement, Engineering and ongoing Evaluation. Actions and targets are set to allow progress to be reviewed over the lifetime of the plan. The Plan also seeks to encourage every member of the community to play their part in reducing road collisions by taking responsibility for their own behaviour as road users. I would like to thank all

threach and ETB Centres. Dr Sandra Buchanan, Donegal ETB and Member of the Working Group explains “Education has a key role to play in ensuring that our next generation of road users are fully aware of the dangers and implications of dangerous and inappropriate driving. Donegal ETB looks forward to working in partnership with all the agencies to successfully deliver the objectives of the Plan”. Gareth Gibson, Donegal Youth Information Manager says “Donegal Youth Service are members of the DRSWG and are supportive of all initiatives and campaigns. Through our direct links with young people in our projects, information centre and work with the Donegal Youth Council we are committed like all other DRSWG members to doing all we can to ensure the effective implementation of this plan, with a view to making the roads of Donegal a safer place to be for all. Brian O’Donnell, Donegal Road Safety Officer says, “This is an important day for road safety in Donegal as we launch the new Road Safety Plan. Progress is being made but Donegal continues to pay a heavy price on its roads with far too many people killed or maimed as a result of road traffic collisions. We must keep educating drivers and reminding the public of their responsibilities as road users and highlight that the key to making roads safer in Donegal rests with the people and communities in the county. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. I want to take this opportunity again to appeal to all road users to redouble their efforts in road safety as any progress we have made can be erased very quickly”. The Donegal Road Safety Working Group at their monthly meeting will monitor the Plans progress and review indicators that will measure the activities under each relevant objective. The Road Safety Plan can be downloaded at www.donegalcoco.ie under Publications.

new car reviews

The New Seat Alhambra, Quality & Versatility This year, SEAT released their latest version of the Alhambra to the Irish public. If you’re a parent, this is a car with massive appeal. Throw the kids into any of the five seats in row two or three and there’s no need to worry – they’ll have plenty of space. When I picked up my SEAT Alhambra test car I was immediately impressed by the high spec model I was given. Comfort is top of the list and after driving the new Volkswagen Sharan and the Ford Galaxy I have to say that the interior feel of the Alhambra is probably topping the list. The Alhambra offers a huge amount of space and even the back row seats are very roomy.

Very Practical There are nice cup holders in row three and with the row two seats, which are on rails, pushed forward the space is perfect for even young teenagers. Row two impresses with the very easy-to-use child seats. I have two kids and each week when I pick up a test car it feels like a chore transferring booster seats from one car to another. With the Alhambra you can just flick a switch and out pops two in-built boosters. Both come with special head rests that you can put on and take off as you please. Yes, this car is appealing. Where it falls down a bit is in the ride department. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I felt

that the Sharan was a more comfortable ride – even though both of these cars are built on the same platform. The Ford Galaxy however gave me a smoother ride over the same types of streets. I’ve never gotten out of an MPV and described it as being fun to drive, and I’m not about to change now. However, there is something hugely satisfying about driving the SEAT Alhambra, the Sharan and the Galaxy. If you’re stuck with school runs, all three of these MPVs are excellent, but the Alhambra pips the other two at the post on account of those in-built boosters. Flat folding seats make it a versatile machine too. However, boot space is very tight with row three seats in place.

Engine Power The Alhambra is powered by a 2.0 TDI 150hp engine and by no means does it feel lacking in that department. It’s nicely matched with their DSG gearbox, but at low speeds the car likes to hold onto the gears just a little too long. With a higher and steadier speed though, everything falls nicely into place. Inside my higher-end SE model, the leather layout added to the comfort of the vehicle. The infotainment system is very easy to use, but lacks imagination - same as the Sharan.

ing about €38,990. The price isn’t bad when you consider that the price of an entry level Sharan is €43,675. However, the entry level Sharan has the same 2.0 TDI 150hp engine as my test model, and the entry level price for the Alhambra is for the 2.0 TDI with 115hp. The entry level SE (manual gearbox) with 150hp comes in at €43,595, and if you want the DSG gearbox that prices increases to €46,395. The Sharan in Highline trim and a DSG box comes in at €50,055. Standard spec in our test vehicle (Alhambra 2.0 TDI SE) included 18” ‘Akira’ alloys, one integrated child seat and comfort front sports seats. Other standard features include a multi-functional steering wheel, a 6.5” colour touch screen, Three zone air conditioning, and rear privacy glass.

Letterkenny Golf Club Notes

Jackson & McElhinney take the honours in the 48th season of the North Western Golfing Alliance

2016/17 Season

Course: Ballybofey/Stranorlar Golf Club Saturday 17th September | (Par 68; S.S.S. 67)

FULL RESULTS:

What a day of low scoring we had for the first competition of the new Alliance season in this, it’s 48th season. Included in the prize list is this year’s Captain and prolific prizewinner Odran McGettigan and also last season’s Captain, David Forbes. Collecting in the Gross section was another former Captain, Michael McGeady. The Alliance had not played Ballybofey/Stranorlar Golf Course in recent years but the return visit was a great success with the greens and the course in good condition despite the most awful weather that we have had. The day itself was a bright, sun-filled day with high temperatures and little breeze. In fact, just ideal golfing weather, and it was great to see quite a few new members at this first outing. The Nett section was won with a magnificent 41pts by one of those new members, Anthony Jackson from Foyle Golf Club. Anthony, a nine handicapper, behaved like fine port wine in that his round improved as it got older. Starting with 18pts on outward

NORTH WESTERN GOLFING ALLIANCE

Nett:

nine, Anthony really took off, returning 23 points on the back nine by virtue of three birdies at the 10th,12th and 17th, his only blemish being a double bogey at the 18th, but by then he had the nett section wrapped up by three clear points from Denis Porter, who had nines of 18pts and 20pts respectively.

1st Anthony Jackson (9) Foyle G.C. 41pts. 2nd Denis Porter (8) Strabane G.C. 38pts. 3rd David Forbes (8) Faughan Valley G.C. 36pts. 4th Odran McGettigan (26) Strabane G.C. 35pts. 5th Mark Doherty (9) Letterkenny G.C. 34pts (b.o.t).

Birthday Boy

Gross:

The score of the day came from ‘birthday boy’ Brian Mc Elhinney, now teaching Professional at North West Golf Club. In the company of his great friend and rival Michael Mc Geady, Brian conquered the course with no less than 64 strokes, four (4) under par gross, having had four birdies and no dropped strokes in his round with the birdies coming at the 4th, 6th and 9th holes on front nine and his solitary birdie on the back nine coming at 12th. What a way to celebrate your birthday! Happy Birthday from all the members of the Alliance

Ladies & Gents Past Captains’ Day 2016 at Letterkenny Golf Club

Ulster Bank win Letterkenny Chamber Classic

Eunan, Pat, Jack McGarrigle and Joe Lambe pictured with Chamber President John Bowe.

The ever popular Letterkenny Chamber Classic took place recently and with almost forty teams taking part, it was the ‘bankers’ representatives from Ulster Bank who took centre spot on the podium with Eunan, Pat, Jack McGarrigle and Joe Lambe returning 98pts to relegate the Consultas Financial team of Tom McDonagh, Eamonn O’Carroll, Eamon McDermott and Pat Boyce to runner-up spot by virtue of B.O.T. In third place were Farren Roarty’s

team of Joe Hensey, Donal Callaghan Snr and Jnr and Sean Callaghan returning 97pts whilst in fourth place was Bonnar’s Engineering on another B.O.T with the McDonald’s Takeaway team both returning 94pts. In 6th place, with 93pts, was the AIB team. Longest Drive, (Gents) was Shane Scanlon, Longest Drive (Ladies) was Marian O’Sullivan and nearest the pin was Letterkenny Golf Club President Greg Sullivan.

Congratulations are extended to Letterkenny Golf Club stalwart member and GUI representative Mr. Barry Ramsay who has recently been nominated onto the OGB (One Governing Body) club formation group. A work group who will review the current range of golf club management structures throughout Ireland and propose models of good governence for the future. With the newly agreed amalgamation of the GUI and ILGU, both bodies have been involved in a consultation process to form a single governing body for golf in Ireland and have spoken to all key stakeholders in relation to this aspect of governance. Following feedback from club representatives, they have now set up this wonderful opportunity to shape golf on the island of Ireland so that it will reflect a modern sport leading us into the next century.
