A Message from the Executive Director of Adult & Community Education, Rudy Jimenez As the newest member of the Adult and Community Education Department, I am extremely excited to start my new adventure. The opportunity for lifelong learning and bettering ourselves and the community is an important part of our mission. I am committed to continue this mission and follow the great path of community education that has been already been established. Our catalog’s theme this spring is “Pick up Something New”. Our selection of classes continues to grow with old favorites and brand new offerings. We know with the variety of classes available, you will undoubtedly have the opportunity to pick up something new this spring. If exercise and/or relaxation are part of your New Year’s goals, check out the Hearfulness Guided Relaxation and Meditation class or visit the various Yoga classes for differing needs. Excel® 2013, Beyond the Basics

Level two offers a more extensive look into the world of the Excel® spreadsheet. More time is given to making and customizing graphs, working with more complex functions, and manipulating data to achieve your goals. Academy of Learning in Retirement (ALIR) Academy of Learning in Retirement (ALIR) is dedicated to the belief in lifelong learning. Operating under the aegis of NEISD, it is open to all persons age 50 or older. Courses in the arts, computer, history, languages, literature and the sciences are offered in a warm and supportive learning environment. ALIR utilizes its members’ wealth of experience and abilities as the principal means of achieving educational stimulation. Emphasis is on volunteerism with members volunteering as instructors, planners and committee members according to their talents and skills. ALIR is a place where members get together to learn, socialize and exchange views. Classes begin February 2 and end on April 30, 2016. Classes will be held at 8750 Tesoro Dr., San Antonio, TX 78217. Great Artists of the Italian Renaissance (Sandra Rightmeyer) Monday 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. This Great Courses® class with Professor William Kloss surveys the early Renaissance historical art period with the High Renaissance period approximating 500 years of “Western Art.” The class contrasts the differing styles of artistic language associated with the late Middle Ages being replaced by new styles which stemmed from Florence in central Italy with Venice’s domination of northern Italy. Beginning Zen Painting (Lauren O’Neal, Mary Bowman) Monday 1:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. Discover the fun of Oriental style Zen brush painting and develop your artistic talents in a mindful new way. Creating a Legacy (Pat Bailey, Pat Diamanti) Tuesday 9:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Most people become overwhelmed at the thought of going through decades of photos and creating a scrapbook. We want to preserve our memories for future generations but simply don’t know where to start. This class begins with those pictures, gives you an orderly, obtainable way to begin and shows you exactly what to do. It also includes some instruction on telling your story (journaling) to accompany your photos. Anyone can accomplish this, one step at a time. This is a working class where we encourage one another as we work toward a finished project. After the first week, each student will need to purchase a scrapbook, some supplies and any special stickers or embellishments that they want to use. Some basic supplies are available at no cost.

Computers Improve Your Computer Skills (Morton Colbert) Monday 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. This course is designed for students with some computer skills. They will learn operating system commands, how to save in various formats, create shortcuts, learn forms and control panel functions. A section will deal with security and troubleshooting. Successful completion of the NEISD Driver Education program can result in a 15% discount on auto insurance. FOR ADULT CLASSES: We are proud to welcome and admit students 18 years of age and older and of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin to all classes. Students under 18 will be permitted to register only with prior consent of the Instructor and Coordinator and may be required to have an adult sign up with them. You do not have to be a resident of NEISD to take any of our classes. FOR YOUTH CLASSES: We ask that you adhere to the age requirements listed in the course description. We do not allow children to accompany adults to class, nor do we provide child care. GENERAL INFORMATION—The Community Education Program of NEISD is conducted for the benefit and enjoyment of community patrons. Classes are offered for people of all ages regardless of where they live. Classes offered are non-credit. Financial support for the program comes from class fees. Classes are for adults only unless specifically noted. REFUND POLICY—We are happy to refund tuition, less a $5 processing fee, when you cancel your class two full working days prior to the first class meeting. If request for refund is made one working day prior to the first class, one-half refund will be made. We are unable to refund any tuition money the day of or after the first class. Request for refund must be made by calling Community Education at 407-0140 option 3. Instructors are not authorized to approve request for refunds. DISCOUNTS—NEISD employees or NEISD resident who are 65 or over with a Senior Star Card are entitled to a 20% discount on most Community Education classes that cost $25 or more.To obtain a Senior Star Card call the office of the Superintendent at 407-0556. Discounts must be taken at time of registration and apply to employees and Senior Star cardholders only, not family members. CANCELLATIONS—If we cancel your class, you will receive a full refund by check or credit on charge card. Registrants will be notified by e-mail or phone if class has been canceled. Refer to “Refund Policy” above if you wish to cancel your class. CONFIRMATION of registrations will not be sent. You will be contacted only if a class is canceled or is already full when your registration is received. RETURNED CHECKS—A fee will be charged for each returned check. SUPPLY/FOOD FEES—Some classes have a supply fee which is payable to the instructor at the first class. This fee is in addition to the class fee, which is paid to Community Education and is noted in the class description. POLICIES—North East Community Education reserves the right to change class instructors when necessary. North East Community Education also reserves the right to refuse enrollment to participants with a history of unacceptable behavior. INSTRUCTORS—We make every effort to ensure that instructors are knowledgeable in the subject that they are instructing, but the views, opinions, and beliefs discussed by the instructor do not necessarily reflect the opinions of North East Community Education.
